Re: CBS NEWS REPORT ON COPIER SECURITY
I think that many used copiers available for resale still have the original dealer sticker on them. This would be the first step a lawyer would take to attach liability. It seems odd that either 3/4 or 4/4 of the copiers that the CBS reporter picked were Toshiba. Balanced reporting would suggest he should have bought a mix of machines. It also seems very long odds that 3/4 copiers the data expert examined had large amounts of personal data on them. The report seems a little contrived to me.

Re: "What is" Section 179
Leasing and Section 179 Did you know that your company can lease equipment and still take full advantage of the Section 179 deduction? In fact, leasing equipment and/or software with the Section 179 deduction in mind is a preferred financial strategy for many businesses, as it can significantly help with not only cash flow, but with profits as well. Non-Tax | Capital Lease The main benefit of a non-tax capital lease is that you can still take full advantage of the Section 179 Deduction, yet...

Plus have to be experts in two different lines and everything that goes along with it and let's face it, today there is much more than the box that you have learn to be the expert. I think Ricoh has a broad line now with the addition of the Print Production Units and I believe these systems will only get better from Ricoh. They have to becuase the only growth in pages is at the very low end and the very high end. The middle has been losing clicks for years due to scan2email, scan2folder,...

A COMPUTER virus created to sabotage Iran's nuclear programme and stop Tehran developing an atomic bomb was designed by American and Israeli experts, it was claimed yesterday. The Stuxnet computer worm, the most sophisticated cyber weapon ever made, crippled uranium enrichment facilities across Iran last year and set the country back five years in the nuclear arms race. US military and intelligence sources have told The New York Times that a simulation of Iran's uranium enrichment facility...

Re: Print Production Sales 101
I would suggest that it is as important to understand the industry you are working with as it is to understand your product/service/solutions offerings. To use commercial print as an example, make sure you understand your customers long term goals and take those into account. What do I mean by this? Is your customer interested in status quo, do they know about or understand the trans-promotional initiatives, are they trying to transition more into digital print or are they trying to drive...

Re: MAC OS9 help with 240W
Art, if they have Plotbase, you should be able to setup basic PPD printing. BUT. They can buy a new Mac Mini for $599 that runs literal rings around their existing machine, or keep their ten year or more old machine and maybe you'll find a retrocomputing expert who can kludge around this after several hours of $150/hour consulting. Leaving them in the same bind next month when the next problem arises. Sometimes you can't give them what they want, but rather, what they need. Why someone...

Re: Leasing Company Copiers are Underwater
Found out today, that Assurant does cover floods, I actually got a document from them about their services and I'll post it here later. Seems like most BOP policies will not cover floods, and Assurant will. However this leads to another issue, when leasing companies ask for "proof of insurance" and get a copy of the rider, do they not check to see if their equipment is covered in case of flood? If they miss this and do not charge for insurance is it then their loss and not the lessee? Some...

Re: Leasing Company Copiers are Underwater
I'm in the same boat. I now think that taking the leasing company's insurance is the best option for the customer. My customers with leasing company coverage have had a delay of a few weeks but next week I will deliver the first unit that was covered. Took a while but its a done deal. Another customer with their own insurance immediately got new gear right away. They were dead in the water without equipment so they did a new lease. I put on my sales order clearly that it was the customer's...

Simple math tells us that Sharp recently rec'd $120M USD from Qualcomm and $110M USD from Samsung totaling $231M USD. Six months from now Sharp has to come up with $2.1B USD or else the sh*t will hit the fan for Sharp. Not that I am a high finance expert by any means but at least the acknowledgement by Sharp that they are interested in receiving bids on the copier division means that it is not a sacred cow for Sharp. Re: 3850 & Camera Ready Art
From: JasonR Sent: 10/11/2002 7:32 AM Remember that even Ricoh is saying that the 3850 is BUSINESS color, as such there is no way this machine can be used for "real" proofing. A lot of people throw around the word proofing when they mean "prints we can do before we show this to the customer" or "prints shown to the customer with an understanding this isn't a "press proof". I'm glad to hear the 3850 output looks good, and for "camera ready art" while it isn't the machine I would pick, I'm...

Re: Konica Minolta Bizhub C451
Specs for the bizhub are impressive! Here's how I would handle this. 1. I always bundle e-copy "desktop" software with every system. I make sure I show the customer the advantages of the copy desktop software before I speak about speeds and feeds. This software could make the difference in landing the sale or not!! 2. Support is always number one in the customers mind, provide them with a list of customers that you have that they may know. 3. Position yourself as the "expert", dig deep for...

We (COPI) sell the entire line, out of eight sales people we probably have two that have the knowledge to "sell it all"! Re: ANWAR drilling and such
I am no expert so I may be all wrong but this is what I believe to be true...OPEC dictates most of the supply and therefore also dictates the price. They will provide whatever supply we are willing to pay for at their dictated price. Alternative sources of supply whether it be gas or alternatives, will provide alternative places to buy which will create competition which will create lower prices.

Re: Ricoh Offers Managed Print Services to Reduce Printing Complexity
Okay, someone please tell me what am I missing here? "Best of all, users only pay for actual output and work with one point of contact – an MPS expert – in order to streamline the process." Most of the time all I think MPS is intended for is to get someone elses hardware out and your new hardware in. Right?? If that is true, then all of the MPS is a bunch of hogwash with the type of statement that was issued by RPS. If is not true, how, how can you service 30 different models of printers...

As I scramble to stay on top of Electronic Document Management technologies and Managed Print Services, I cringe at Art’s prediction of “the end of paper as we know it”! And even though I think Art’s prophecy may someday come to pass, I feel we’re safe (at least for 10 years or so) if we stay focused on these “relatively new” document strategies (EDM and MPS)…in other words, I’m doubting the paperless office takes hold in the next five years (but what do I know…I’m just a dumb copier...

One has internal termination (only in no out connection on device) and the other has an in and a out and the out has to be terminated if it is the last device in the chain. At least thats how I understand it to be. I am not a scsi expert, but have used these devices in the past. Hope that helps. JG

Re: Copier Scams Part Deux "Dude Where's my Copier"?
I'm not sure if that has an equivalent in the UK. here we have the Consumer Credit Act. However, it only applies to consumers. Business to business isn't covered (except in a small number of cases). "I've almost never seen a disputed copier lease where the lessee wins. I'll admit I'm no expert in leasing however most of these agreements are rock solid." In my experience the reason why they're perceived as rock solid is because they are rarely challenged. If they're not challenged they'll...

Re: Canon Copiers Are HOT!!
Did The Canon Copier Cause The Fire? The fire started in a locked storeroom. It destroyed the video rental store in a St. Paul strip mall and damaged three adjacent buildings. An employee of the video rental store had set the Canon copier (located in the storeroom and serviced one week prior to the fire) to make 80 copies before leaving the storeroom while the copying was in progress. Several hours later, the security alarms activated, the fire in the storeroom was discovered, and the store...

I wouldn't consider this a good candidate in the typical White Board environments because there seems to be deficiencies compared to other White Boards even though there are many things it can do that White Boards can't. The way I see it, typical White Boards will have a tough time competing with us in most commercial settings where we will have difficulty in most educational...
