Re: Things getting weird for Xerox Dealers
Very strange. I interact with the CRG on a regular basis and have had no indication of reduced staff, etc. I can’t comment on your issue with parts as we do not rely on xerox to send our parts, we stock and replenish out of our own warehouse. No substantial difference between xerox parts on b/o than Canon or HP. Not nearly as bad as Ricoh. We dropped the ricoh product years ago as we couldn’t handle the constant toner b/o issues. Parts I can somewhat understand, but toner? Hope that your...

I can't confirm these specifics, but the Global dealer down here stopped selling Sharp and Konica Minolta a few years ago, so I assumed this happened awhile back.

Re: Question: Xerox technicians
I can confirm a new offering. Xerox has a new program for signing on new dealers and not putting them in the Global or Agent bucket. These dealers can then be trained to use thier own technicians. I will check with my source about them using Xerox techs.

This seems wrong on so many levels.... 16,000 printers? 5 machines per site?? 10 year contract??? I feel as if a DMS / workflow solution would have saved them so much more.

Frak, who is going to blink first? Xerox or Fujifilm Xerox states that they will not renew the 50 year relationship with Fuji-Xerox, Fuji Xerox manufacturers most of Xerox's MFPs. Where would Xerox go for MFP's?

Re: Xerox explores sale of leasing finance unit: sources
Oce did that 10 years ago and went bust. They didn't realise how much they relied on the monthly rental income and how inflexible third party leasing companies are when you want to upgrade mid term. The financing arm is usually the most profitable side of the business. High interest rate to customers, low rates for them and if the customer goes bust you generally get you equipment back and at the end of the contract you get your gear back.

Do you think Icahn and Deason are in it for the long-term? Or is this a corporate takeover to temporarily raise the stock price and cash out on their investment?

Re: Charity Suggestions
May I put in a plug for my personal cause? As a volunteer at our county's animal shelter, I see first hand the good work this shelter does(as well as all the others around the country). There are so many wonderful, wonderful pets languishing in kennels that are simply awaiting a chance to have a home of their own with a loving family. People can be so incredibly cruel to animals. I can't begin to tell you how many of our "strays" were really dumped off on the side of the road by somebody who...

Re: Ricoh Ikon Letter
Something to think about as well, adding to what was mentioned by Mega. The Japanese division is making the bulk of their profits on the manufacturing of toner. That is the money tree for them. They sell to Ricoh USA and they work through their channels to distribute the boxes. The ultimate goal is to “place the box” Ricoh USA makes their overhead by the profit on the box moving it to the Dealer and other channels. The profit make by selling the box is what keeps the “Reps paid and the...

Cash Gap: Going back to the past and seems like you've been in the biz for a long time. There was a time when: If you were over 2 years in biz, 90% of the time no PG was required. The leasing companies that you did business with would not "cream" the apps, they would take the good, the bad and the ugly (well, sometimes with the ugly) Problem now, is that all leasing companies want the cream, and that's where I have an issue, if you want first dibs to our portfolio, don't cream the apps, and...

Re: Time in business requirements
I can agree that they leasing companies (and all lenders) acted foolishly in the past. Now the banks are acting like banks. That's not bad, though it may make it tougher to provide people with equipment you, I and they all know they have no business leasing. [If you were over 2 years in biz, 90% of the time no PG was required.] And now we know that two years in business is not adequate assurance of the company's ability to make the payments, so more assurance is required in the form of a PG.

Re: Time in business requirements
Well... If they leave the cash sitting in a Money Market, they will probably make 1%. They make profit when they lend it and it makes more than that. If they lend it and take a loss, they will be out of business faster than if they never lent at all.

Re: Memjet Color Printers to the Rescue?
I see these types of products making a serious impact on our business. From what I see from the video, I can't remember ever seeing a color laser that would be able to output documents that fast, especially with the envelope output. It's the tip of the iceberg with probably faster products to come down the road. Potential Users: Churches Colleges CRD's Print Shops Anyone else care to add to the list of potential markets?

Re: NY Times Article about Ricoh Japan
I think the title is a rosey picture, however there are many problems other than the manufacturing plant such as damaged shipping port in Sendai, road infrastructure, and still rolling black outs. Japan does not have the network of roads that we have here in the USA. Toner is still a big issue, and I don't believe what the Japanese government is telling.

I understand where you're coming from, I believe, you may be talking about the ability to actually delete up to 4 areas per document through the display. What I am speaking about regarding flexibility is to have 1 button on the home screen that does multiple steps like 3 hole punch, saddle stitch and pull covers with a custom watermark, with a picure of the user that requires these functions, or email destinations with the name of the recipieint and their custom file type as a 1 touch...

Re: Q. How does your company handle networking charges?
I think we all struggle with where to draw the line. The point I make with my Sales force, as well as with my customers is if you come in one day and you can't scan to email, but it was working fine yesterday the customer perceives this as "my MFD is broken" because one or more of the functions have stopped working. But most of the time nothing on the MFD is broken. The configuration is the same as it has been for the last 6 months (or 2 years). What most often has changed is something on...

Re: Would You Loan this company Money?
Hi Art, I agree. Ricoh needs an entry level 4 D/min system. I have always thought Ricoh should take thier gel sprinter technology and develop a plotter around it, instead they rely on Epson to fill this void. They seem ready to concede the 4 d market to Oce, Kip and the plotter cometitors. I wonder if it is the aftermarket that drives the decision. With a 4 D-Size per minute you are generating less clicks and less aftermarket revenue. Perhaps they want use limited dollars to develope higher...

Take away's on this are #1 Do RIGHT by the customer #2 Don't try to squeeze more profit out of him - be the GOOD GUY and #3 Whatever your fix, babysit the heck out of them so they know how concerned you are - there'll be a...

I once saw a little book that had 365 ways to recycle/reuse/renew and thought these would be nice little tidbits to throw out in an email so that people would feel non-threatened and perhaps look forward to the next one. Down the road I become the "Recycle Guy", never did anything about it though.

Re: Are you a Data Miner?
This will work anywhere but you have to subscribe to a database service that costs at least $100.00 per month. Then you have to be prepared to donate a couple of hours of your spare time per week for an extended period of time to build your database. I do not want you to think that this is a road to fast sales because it is definitely not but it will help to increase the pool of suspected decision makers that you can contact on a regular basis

Re: 100 calls a day, 240 minutes talk time a day, 4 opps per day
Here are my thoughts on it, for what it's worth... Judges out there have shown an incredible bias towards the employee when it comes to enforcement of non-competes. Basically, regardless of what you signed, they have shown across the continent that they will not allow an overly prohibitive non-compete to prevent a man (or woman) from earning a living. Basically, if haven't stolen any of their information and you're ready to accept that it wouldn't be fair, regardless of circumstances, for...

I am assuming that when you say "that you were told..." that you are referring to your company, that it wasn't the wholesaler who changed your price. I also assume that the $2,800 was a delivered price that included shipping. I think the first thing that I would do is track down the tech that did the work and see if he really did all the work that was claimed. It may not matter but at least you would know what you were dealing with. What if the customer was willing to buy it "as is" and go...

We're a full-line Canon dealer (table top through production) and have been a Samsung dealer now for a little under 2 years. There have been some bumps in the road, but nothing that I'd tell anyone to not bring their products on board. Samsung is a well oiled machine when it comes to how large corporations run. While they're still learning the ropes of the copier industry (don't have the tenure like Canon or Ricoh), they're a South Korean company and do things a lot differently than the...

Because I can remember countless times when I heard someone say, "Cold calling is fun!" In fact, I even did it once. It's true. Early on in my sales career, when I was going from job to job, failing by cold calling, and not understanding why it wasn't working - after all, my managers all said it would work - I began deluding myself into believing that...
