Art Post ·
WOW! Some take ways from the article above: Sharp does not have core business that it can look to in the future 510 billion syndicated loan payment due March of 2016. That's almost 4.2 billion US dollars! Ouch! "The chances of banks calling the 103-year-old company’s loans are therefore low", seems to me like there are more cuts to come, more business units to sell. Banks accepted shares in the company earlier this year after it defaulted on debt payments

It was briefly at $1.0030 earlier this week. It is now at $0.975. It should be around $0.89 but because the US Govt is running massive deficits Canada looks good. If China ever pulls the plug and calls in its US Bonds, it will not be pretty.

China won't pull in it's bonds since it would ruin the US economy and China would lose one of it's largest if not the largest trading partner.

It is ironic that Communist China has the ability to cause significant damage to the world's greatest democracy with the capitalist concept of debt. Anyway not to get political, copier prices might soon be rising simply because of the powerful forces of currency change.

Most of the copiers we sell are assembled in Europe, but the parts come from China, Japan etc. So if the quake is going to have an impact on our sale then it probably won’t happen until (maybe) this summer... MP C toner is produced in Japan and bottled in US (according to the package) That could be an issue if the toner factories are affected

Toshiba HQ Bldg. in Tokyo is designed to resist earthquakes. Employees actually felt sea sick on the upper floors as the building gently swayed back and forth absorbing the shock waves. The elevators stopped woring. All Toshiba employees are OK and the earthquake had no significant effect on MFP production. MFP production is mainly in China. Toshiba has closed all non essential facilities to comply with Govt request. In Tokyo, there are now rolling black outs and interruptions to train...

This was an article from the NY times over the weekend! SHIBATA-MACHI, Japan — When the ground shook violently on the afternoon of March 11, the ceiling collapsed in part of the huge Ricoh copier factory here, exposing the vents and wires above. The offices at the Ricoh plant near Sendai are still in disrepair; workers have focused on restoring the factory and production. The ceiling is still not fixed. But employees are back at their posts, working under temporary lighting and wearing hard...

Re: Protest in China

The root cause of the feud is a couple of very small uninhabited islands off the coast of Japan. Both countries want to claim sovereignty. The value is in the rich fishing grounds and possible oil underneath the sea. Panasonic has already closed at least one plant in China as a direct result. We can only hope this does not impact the MFP industry.

watch out for CHINA, no other country has anywhere near the population, nor the revenues that China is accumulating. the next war may not be a war of the military but a war of crippling a nations economy and stealing data/secrets/intellectual property. While everyone is watching the arab spring, Iraq, Afganistan, the europe debt crisis, CHINA is the sleeper that is on it's way to become a military and econmoic powerhouse. They are already flexing their muscle with loaning money to the world.

Sometimes we all seem to focus too much on our local markets, it's good to see what some of the other manufacturers are doing in those markets. I had not idea Toshiba was number 1 in China, China a huge market and still developing. This is also helps me understand why Toshiba is still manufacturing MFP's. All I knew about was there less than stellar Marketshare here in the US. I'm sure others appreciate this also, and that's why we're all here to share information. Thanx

Well, we're already proven that the economy doesn't shut down when gas hits $3 or even $4. I think a tax which sets the price of gas near $3 with the proceeds going toward developing alternative energy sources would be a good thing. in reference to the supply and demand issue; it's not that their is a "shortage", it's that because other nations such as India and China (both will near or over 1 billion citizens) are now industrializing and with that comes not only the usage of oil based products, but also brings more prosperity to those citizens and their needs and wants for items that either use gas or are petroleum based. Because of all of this we have more companies and more people buying the oil and because of the...

I agree with you on some points that his goals are admirable in wanting to cut wasteful spending. That's about it. In the future if he is elected, and he cuts the nuclear arsenal, cuts defense spending, brings all of our troops back to the US from around the world (which numbers around 500,000), says that we no longer will protect our allies (which means that US bases around the world will have to be closed).
