Re: JOINT STATEMENT BY SHARP ELECTRONICS CORPORATION AND EDWARD MCLAUGHLIN

These are all very interesting comments. Not sure if anyone has seen the videos and new interface on the color systems. Watch those videos on youtube and see yes that is a cool interface but is it really practical? From talking with others this is a very confusing non-friendly user interface compared to the previous MX color series. I think this is going to hurt this color series in the long run. The real challenge comes when there are MX units in an account then add this Aries series. Or...

They could be going to more of a master distributor type of model. It is way less expensive for them to support 4-5 big wholesalers than 3-4-500 dealers across the US. The dist then has to give tech support, parts dist etc. A few years ago they pushed all the smaller dealers doing less than $500K anually thru distributors. This may be their long term master plan....... But who the heck knows?

Going the Master Distributor route makes them a commodity in their catalog. No value selling, low cost and margins but it keeps the factories running - th ottom line.

From: ricohaficio Sent: 1/31/2002 7:40 PM Did you know, that by adding additional drums and TCII's to a JP8000 we can achieve print speeds of 480 pages a minute for a mere $18,000 or less. Also they TCII's can print single color only. Set one drum with the master desired and set the other drum with a blank master. You will need to run almost 30 make ready sheets for clean prints on the TCII.

Jim, Thanx, I have visited the customer and set the SP setting to a lighter master and have the dup print at full speed. Is there a way to also have the systems always make an economy master? I have spoken to Ray Bauer @ Ricoh, another possible for the low ink cover is the fact that we are using an 11 x 17 master for every print. I have tried to find the settings for the auto master cut to 8.5 x 11 but can't. Another other hints. Art

Art, I think you'll find that you need the Black Drum 30-S #205698 to get an 8.5"x11" Master. Your looking at $600+ which would take years to pay for in ink/master savings not to mention the inconvenience of having to switch cylinders back and forth depending on original size. I think you will also find that the end users will not comply and just continue to use the 11x17 drum for 8.5x11 copies rather than hassle with the change.

Re: 600 DPI QUESITON FOR THE EXPERTS--

From RIP Easiest method is to have them set it up on 8½x11 paper in their application, set 8½x11 paper in the tray, cut master, then just put evelopes in and print. From Glass Easiest method is to turn off auto paper size detection before making master, or set 8½x11 paper in the tray, cut master, then just put evelopes in and print. ANy other suggestions Art? Dmap it and the dealer will be authorized ricoh dealers...you can specify which dealer. To find dealer go to ricoh-usa.com then go to contact ricoh then service location database then select state and product line. This is the best way to find independent dealers. There is also a master list you can try to get from your DSM, but that is always the hardest.

Re: question on digital duplicators

Old Glory ·
The purpose of the short drum is to lower operating cost when running 81/2"x11" by using less master material. After about 10,000 masters, you might have finally offset the cylinder cost. Needless to say, not many get sold.
Reply

Re: question on digital duplicators

Art Post (Guest) ·
Also the short drum uses less ink, with the increased master yield and decreased ink saturation of the master, you get a lower per page cost. This can win many deals in schools where they have been using duplicators that only cut a 17 inch master for a letter sheet.

Re: 600 DPI VS. RISO GR3700

Old Glory ·
I probably shouldn't tell you all this but there probably isn't any reason that the variable data printer wouldn't work on a PriPort with alittle engineering to get the unit heigth right and one unit secured to the other.. The MX1200 is a multi-head ink jet printer (Made by Graphics Wizard) that rolls up to the exit end of the Riso. You create the master on the Riso with everything that is non-variable. Then a mail-merge program of your choosing sends variable data to the MX1200 which prints...

I don't know how much you have worked with these but some things to keep in mind with dig. dups...The print will move some on every sheet and every pass. It just isn't noticed with a single color or on the first pass. Therefore, on a two-color of red and black for instance, the black has moved alittle "+" on some sheets and alittle "-" on others as did the red on the second pass. The problems come in on those sheets where the black went alittle "+" on the same sheet where the red went...

Their enept marketing of this very customer focused solution caused it's demise as Ricoh, Kip and later XES (6204) capitalized on the time KMA gave them (about 2-3 years) to get a single footprint, 600 dpi wide format system to market. This is such an exciting product, due to the new master technology. Can't wait for it to filter up to the new HQ series in 400 & 600 DPI. My information tells me that when this happens, Ricoh will choose to market these products not as resolution based but quality based (like Riso has been doing). For example, low end would be good quailty, followed by better quality up to maybe best quality, or something like that. Attached is the PSG for the 4500, which has a great explanation of the...

Just the Connect Kit. You don't need two controllers as long as you don't need to be able to print to the second unit independent of the first. In other words, the 2nd unit will not be able to do print jobs except those that are split by the master unit.

Re: Tyoe 40 controller

It's Ricoh's own low end embedded controller. Fits all 400 DPI + units (JP4500 5500 8500). Although a GDI controller only, it really pumps out some good quality. It especially enhances the quality inherrent by using new HQ micropore master on the 4500. Really very nice. Built in NIC and parallel. Easy to install and very stable. Higly recommend over any ZipRip, unless PS is required.

Re: Tyoe 40 controller

I'm assuming that you're looking at placing the 4500? If so I really think they'll love it. It does display the usual GDI traits - different grayscaling (angles & color), etc. But beauty in the eye of the beholder. The HQ master makes soooo much difference. Can't wait until they release that technology on the 8500 replacement. But don't think that will be until next year. I'd say go for it.

Haven't done much color work, possibly due to the limited standard colors. I heard a rumour that Ricoh was trying to see if they make this Seri compatible. We'll see. For...

If it's the Master Eject box, that you use to sweep out all the old masters into a trash can, then the part # for the whole box unit is C2393401. If it's the Master Eject roller assembly, that takes the masters off the ink unit and feeds them into the eject box, then the part # for this assembly is C2393400. Hope this helps. I can post the pages from the parts manual if you need to make sure. Just let me know. Cheers.

Not that I know of yet. Was it part of the Seri configuration? I knew they were developing that, but thought it was going to be a Seri hybrid - that is using a resin ink. Also, how many heads did it have? My information says that they might have up to 6 heads when all said and done. They are supposed to be replacing the 8500 with a unit that has the HQ master technology, with much greater functionality at the control panel. Any new news of that?

MSRP ink cpc is about the same as it's predecessor (JP8500/5499) @ $0.0014, but the new masters are cheaper @ $0.42 /ea vs $0.46 on the JP8500/5499. It can only duplex 8 1/2 x 11 though. The way that it does it, is to burn the front and back image on one 11 x 17 master. It then feeds a sheet through to print one side, and is pushed down to the duplex tray which is located under the ink unit. It then gets pushed back underneath and around a smaller...

I find it works best if you can determine how much you can save them before you quote any pricing. But keep two things in mind: 1.) It does not have to be cost justified. No church has ever cost justified a paved parking lot but they all have it. 2.) Just because it is cost justified doesn't mean it's a done deal. My thoughts also, I recommended Tohoku,Ricoh manufacturing a 4 color version of the TCII almost four years ago, heck if they can make a TCII, they can make a TC IV. I also though of just having a plate maker (master maker), this would keep the cost down on the hardware. They must be thinking of something else, I beleive ink technology may have put the final nail in the coffin for digital duplicators.
