Re: Copier Parts & Accessories China Tariff Starts in 9 Working Days

SalesServiceGuy ·
I am glad to hear that you are working in the copier industry so that I know that you have "skin in the game". There are very many players in the copier/ printer industry each with their own strengths/ weaknesses when faced with a trade war. Each player will have a different tolerance for how much money they want to loose to maintain market share. I definitely would not expect a uniform response. Multi line dealers will have more options to select from than single line dealers and brand...

Re: Oki 1450 vs Ricoh 6700 wide Format

Wow the OKI wide formats! Haven't run across any of these yet. I do remember that Oki bought a minor wide format player a number of years ago. Ah, now I remember, it was the Seiko wide format devices. I need to brush up on this one for you. The first thing I would lead with is how long Ricoh has had the same digital print engine. I believe it to be one of the most reliable engines on the market today. The Ricoh MP W6700 and MP 7100 are identical except that you can add a dual roll feeder to...

Re: I need everyones opinion on this!

I used to work for a dealership that sold Sharp (when this came out). It is a very nice box, the ultrasonic feeding in awesome, and the pricing for parts and consumables is aggressive. The mistake that Sharp made was to not do a beta program with commercial printers and other high volume users. The irony of Larry's statement is that I would not consider Ricoh a player here. They are chasing Xerox, Canon etc in Seg. 6 and 7, and are seriously held back by their lack of a production color unit.

Something to think about as well, adding to what was mentioned by Mega. The Japanese division is making the bulk of their profits on the manufacturing of toner. That is the money tree for them. They sell to Ricoh USA and they work through their channels to distribute the boxes. The ultimate goal is to “place the box” Ricoh USA makes their overhead by the profit on the box moving it to the Dealer and other channels. The profit make by selling the box is what keeps the “Reps paid and the...

Re: IKON steals University of Kentucky MPS contract from Lexmark!

I don't find this story surprising at all. Lexmark is a printer company that lacks a complete competitive product line. Ricoh has a complete product line to fit a major university from production machines down to desktop printers. You can bet this was a very profitable deal for Ricoh. I don't even think low bidder would be an issue regarding Lexmark given how weak they are on any product beyond a desktop printer. Loyalty would be the only thing Lexmark would have going for it in this...

New update on this one. Ricoh will be continuing support on existing plot bases up to the latest Ricoh version. However, there is a new player. Ratio US is starting up again. They are releasing new product to support the new PDFs from Adobe and update the Plot Base software. However, this will not be done in connection with Ricoh. Ratio US will have it's own versions and they are no longer supported by Ricoh.

I dunno, I can see much room for Sharp anymore. Growth areas are Print Production, very low end and MPS. Right now I don't see them as a player in any of these markets. They don't have wide format, duplicators (not that these have been big sellers lately), scanners. I was just on the sharp web site and what do they have three models of laser printers, maybe four tops! The claim to fame is A4 right now and the slick GUI. Re: Kodak & Possible Buyers?

I would think that it makes the best sense to break the company into pieces and sell individual divisions. The print production division (Nexpress, etc..) would be enticing for Xerox, Ricoh, KM or even Canon. I think Ricoh is not in a position to buy. I think KM would make sense, but I think Canon would be a very strong player. They used to relable the Digimasters (not sure if they still do) and the Nexpress would fill the whole abover thier current color production gear.

The Ricohs have been slow sellers is not because of end user needs or wants. Basically ours is a quota/revenue driven business from the top to the bottom. The preferred compensation model for commissions is that of a revenue based plan with commissions. Why have a GP driven comp plan for your sales people when your Dealership or Branch has a revenue based quota plan from the manufacturers? It just doesn't make sense. With that A4's from Canon, Sharp, Ricoh, and KonicaMinolta has presented...

These are A4 models?? First things first, I would tell them Sharp just lost another 1.4 billion dollars last quarter. They were a small player. Their tool was similar to Print Audit Assessor, and they partnered with a few supplies distributors to offer it to dealers who could install it free for a 90 day assessment and then charge a per-device per month price. Decent tool, but they didn't seem to have much as an organization.

With extreemly aggressive service rates and a duty cycle of 150k per month (and unlike other manufacturers Konica has a history of meeting their spec) this product is going to kick out a great deal of production units, as well as a few creative units. Ricoh just is not a player in color beyond the printer. The 6513 is just the most recent in a series of failures in the mid space. As far as color printers, it is allways the cost per page and flexability that makes these limited.
