Re: Will outside Sales Rep's go away?
I believe it will be a mixed environment, just like with PC's and other peripherals. For the small number of placements, onesie-twosie, I see E-commerce and inside sales taking over the role of the outside sales rep. For the larger accounts a sales rep will continue to play a role.

Re: Are Copier Sales Reps Asking the Right Questions
As you said, this blog wasn't meant to cover all the bases but your comments about brand loyalty and brand/service provider loyalty are only true if the decision maker has been the same for each decision. If you aren't talking to the owner, you may be talking to a totally different person than the one that made past decisions. You need to know that before you decide whether to pack your bags and walk away. Also, in a leased equipment environment, the decision to stay with the same brand and...

Re: MPS and Linux HELP!
So some clarification first. PaperCut absolutely does support Mac. In fact, it is the only cost recovery/print control solution that I know of that actually installs in an all Mac environment. (Server and Client) It also is the only solution I know of that installs in a Linux environment. So both of your issues are solved with PaperCut. I included the install guides for Mac and Linux to get you started.

Re: Color MFP Trends, Tactics, etc
From Ricoh's standpoint especially with thelight to mid production environment the C900 has everything except the ruputation of a Production oriented vendor. If you look at the production environment the 907/1107/1357 product family have no reputation and the C900 and C550/700EX have none either. Now if RICOH were to purchase Oce . . . oooops, blew the wad on the IKON purchase.

I have seen a volcano and I have seen 100 square miles of clear-cut forest. Their impact was essentially the same. The difference was that it took the earth millions of years to make that volcano and it took 2,000 men just 3 years to cut that 100 square miles. If you really believe we can't have any effect on the environment, why do you pay for trash services? Why not just dump it at the edge or your property and let the earth's natural healing power sweep it away?

Re: Sales Management
I think it is obvious what you do with people who don't want to work. It is just as obvious what to do with people who DO want to work! Incentives can be a great way to move a product or idea, but dis-incentives are more personal and can be very disruptive for that individual (ie: income tax, sales activity micromanagement). I am a firm believer that good salespeople like to behave as if they run their own business. When governing bodies try to enforce restrictions, penalties, and/or lessen...

Re: Wireless Printing to a LAN port on a Ricoh 4420NF (Savin 3760NF)
Correct, short CAT5 cable from printer to wireless print server. Best to put in a static IP into the machine, otherwise, you'd have to print to the hostname of the printer and have something doing local DNS to map it from the name to the ever-changing IP. You shouldn't need to do anything at all with the router. Just make sure your IP for the printer is in the same range as the PC. for example, the PC's IP is 192.168.1.1, you could make the printer 192.168.1.44 For small home networks, it's...

Your comments above demonstrate the frustration that many RFG (Ricoh / SAVIN / Lanier) Dealers are feeling, which began when Ricoh acquired IKON. Since then, many Independent Dealers have picked up another Product Line, or bolstered their business with the other Vendor(s) they were already carrying. Ricoh is simply not stable, especially for Independent Dealers that sell Ricoh / Savin / Lanier. Yet, even the IKON / RBS direct side is faltering and the musical chairs amongst 'leadership' will...

Art: I think you are right on. The other thing to think about is the "green" effect. When you ask clients to replace what in their mind are perfectly good machines they start wondering about your motives. The environmental impact of throwing out or reselling working decent printers usually upsets people. When the unit goes defective or is not economically repairable then there is usually no problem with changing them out. I think this is one of the big advantages dealers have in the...

All supplies and parts will reflect a 3% increase without exception. This increase is due to the ongoing appreciation of the Japanese Yen. We have been faced with cost...

The last thing I'd do is lowball that deal. If you win it on a lowball bid and the customer isn't happy with your image quality they are going to torture you. You're going to need plenty of margin in that deal to make up for the aggrivation you are going to get out of it.

A previous employer who initiated your termination will not be allowed to restrict your ability to earn a living in your chosen field. Correct. B2C means "Black to Color." This term was created about 5 years ago to designate the "next big thing" in the industry, which was the move from black & white output to color output in the office.
