Re: What's the weirdest place you've sold a copier to?

Picking up a signed order in the morning for a Canon color with hole punch and staple, from an Amish farmer-printer. Best two parts of the qualification process was having to run samples of a digital plate to run his offset presses and ensuring the power was in spec to be run off of his diesel generator/alternator set up. Oh yea, and he's got a tow motor we have to use to get it to the second floor. Been selling almost nine years and have been in lots of unique places too. Starbucks roasting...

Little harsh there don't you think? Never easy to make cuts, but sometimes cuts are actually addition by subtraction, at least the way I've viewed them over the last few years. I see another round coming at some point as there is some still fat on the plate that can go.

This is not unusual. I know a dealer that would list several pieces of used equipment on one FMV lease show a new model being leased to the leasing company. I have seen signing for a 60ppm unit and delivered a 45ppm. I have seen changing of the name plate showing a faster model even if that was not the case. I have heard of a large buyout that was never paid to customer and dealer kept making excuses to delay the payment. I have seen all sorts of things the real challenge is to explain to...

From: JasonR Sent: 10/11/2002 7:32 AM Remember that even Ricoh is saying that the 3850 is BUSINESS color, as such there is no way this machine can be used for "real" proofing. A lot of people throw around the word proofing when they mean "prints we can do before we show this to the customer" or "prints shown to the customer with an understanding this isn't a "press proof". I'm glad to hear the 3850 output looks good, and for "camera ready art" while it isn't the machine I would pick, I'm...

Keith: I may have a few old excel spreadsheets, I will have to look. However, I can explain here and you may be able to create your own spreadsheet. Commercial Press Shops (ones that have union employees) have a tremendous overhead cost when it comes to making a plate for the press. You have to find out what type of plates they are making, whether paper, metel, or poly. The Metal has the highest cost and the paper plate being the least expensive and then the poly in between. The cost for the...

Re: Duplicator and sorting ideas

Art Post (Guest) ·
Amanda: Here's how the press will produce documents. A press will make a plate just like the duplicator. On a press and a duplicator we can make multiple pages of one image or sheet of information. Therefor we can set the press or the duplicator to run 1,000 pages of sheet #1. If we have a 10 page document we must run the job 10 times on the press or the duplicator. When we are done, we have ten stacks of one thousand pages each. One thousand of page one, one thousand of page two, etc, etc.

How much time have you got??!! At switch on the machine checks the white plate underneath the glass and some dummy pixels on the CCD. The machine then knows what white is and what black is. After the image is scanned it is passed to the IPU (Image Processing Unit). The IPU carries out at least 6 processes of filtering. Different filters are used to actually break down the image so that it can be sent to the laser for writing. It also looks at the make up of the image to detect whether it is...

Stories like this burn my britches too. I think of all the times our tech support has stepped to the plate when I, wearing my sales hat, painted myself into a tech corner. The contribution value of competent and reliable tech support can not be over-emphasized and never taken for granted. Too many sales reps rely on tech support to close a deal for them, and simply walk away. Not only is it unethical, it is just plain dumb to alienate technical support. Thank you for sharing this story,...

Re: 2400Wd: Paper misfeeding from Paper Cassette

John ·
I don't know if this is the same problem, but we had our first unit do this and the cause was part of the roll feed frame had been bent by our delivery driver. It would jam every time just where your unit is having the problem. Basically, something is bent inside and that is causing the paper to jam. Wish I could give you a better technical breakdown. Have your tech check up inside to see if everything is straight and that an upper plate above the cassette is not curved almost in a "u" shape.

Re: Supply Question Savin Ricoh

Darren .... ·
I shall answer my own question. Yes and No. The Ricoh TYpe 185 will not fit the Savin 9918dp without modification. There are four tabs protruding from the side of the cartridge that is inserted into the machine. These tabs are staggered differently between the Savin and Ricoh models. However, two of the four tabs are common and one of them goes into the hole that has the switch for sensing the cartridge. So, you can remove two of the tabs (I suppose even three if you want) to make the...

My thoughts also, I recommended Tohoku,Ricoh manufacturing a 4 color version of the TCII almost four years ago, heck if they can make a TCII, they can make a TC IV. I also though of just having a plate maker (master maker), this would keep the cost down on the hardware. They must be thinking of something else, I beleive ink technology may have put the final nail in the coffin for digital duplicators.

The shading plate and updated fw are the first things to try. As there are no clutches in the duplex unit, the code is telling you that the duplexed copy is late getting to the registration roller. And as I undrstand it, that time is measured from the on time of the duplex exit switch. Also check that the lower rollers in the dup are clean and the transport plates are not broken at the top where they latch into place. good luck

Re: SR850 stack feed out

Have seen this or something similair I think. Check the plate near the anti static brush just as the paper enters the staple tray. The centre of this guide should be below the height of the rollers. Lift the black guide just before the staple tray where the anti static rollers are and you should see the metal guide which could be bent. You didn't say whether the finisher was new, mine was and was caused during production.
