Re: COVID19 "Remote Working" Day Eighteen of Sales
People always like getting free stuff. Two promo ideas 1). Offer 1-5 free color banner prints to your clients and prospects.. Many copiers can now print banners up to 12"W by 48" L . This feature is often not promoted. It costs you almost nothing but the customer might perceive as having value. It could be "Open for Business", "Happy Birthday," "Grand Re-Opening", whatever. The customer can dictate the content. You can add a little logo in the corner of the banner "supplied by ABC Copier...

Re: How I turned $15 into a 24K Opportunity
Hey Art! I started using Aweber email software about 5 months ago. I send out a monthly newsletter with a customized template. People read it! Best part is that you always stay top of mind with your prospects. I actually exported my contact list from my CRM software and imported that into Aweber. Currently have about 100 prospects and customers in my email list. It's great! Much cheaper than a mailer.

Re: MPS and Linux HELP!
So some clarification first. PaperCut absolutely does support Mac. In fact, it is the only cost recovery/print control solution that I know of that actually installs in an all Mac environment. (Server and Client) It also is the only solution I know of that installs in a Linux environment. So both of your issues are solved with PaperCut. I included the install guides for Mac and Linux to get you started.

Re: Print Control/Mgmt
Hi Everyone, Thanks for your posts. Every year or two we see new, low cost competitors that come out of the woodwork for a little while. We are selling against these guys the same as you fight your low cost competitors. There are a few obvious detriments that seem to have stood the test of time. The revenue model can not possibly be profitable for 80% of your customers. Ridiculously low is exactly that, ridiculous and unsustainable. $500 worth of technical support will be used up mighty...

Re: Is selling at cost the future for print hardware?
You might find this interesting: When I sold cars I learned that the "sticker" on new cars is the maximum sales price allowable by law. (this did not apply to trucks, SUV's, or used cars). No industry needs that level of Gov't interference, especially ours.

Re: Ricoh Ends Relationship with Ratio
OK - this is starting to smell like corporate finger pointing. If Ratio.de is closed, who is operating the US office (financially)? And who is providing plotbase PM? (Still available) There seems to be a cloud of secrecy around this mess. It's as if Ricoh's not satisfied with pricing themselves out of wide format. Now they have to prove what corporate moron clowns they are by playing 3 card monty with a key component. BTW, Graphic Enterprises says they can still order the plotbase controller...

Re: Ricoh Ends Relationship with Ratio
Thanks Art. After re-reading my post, I'd like to clarify: my frustration is with Ricoh corporate, and the glib post about Ratio closing. The "Left hand ,Right hand" remark was not aimed at any individuals, but at the organizational structure of the company that is so filled with bureaucracy nobody knows what's true ("can't find it with both hands").

Re: Another Ricoh Direct Give Away
Well, my view the situation you describe is this: If Ford wants to sell cars directly, that's fine and they can do that. If they instead choose to sell cars through dealers, they do not need also come into the same market as those dealers and hang a big banner saying "$4,000 cheaper than not buying direct!" "Get better support by buying direct!" All I'm trying to say is this: If you have a dealer channel, support it. If you think direct is the way to go, just get rid of dealers. Simple enough.

Re: Memjet Color Printers to the Rescue?
This is pretty impressive, but has been around for several years. There have to be significant issues that have prevented adoption. I suspect that clogged nozzles are a really expensive problem for intermittent use machines, and imagine the level of ink wasted keeping them fresh. Folks throw a fit about a $600 print head for a Canon plotter and it's guaranteed for a year. I see a limited market for this.

Re: Active Directory help!!!
Art, How big is there Active Directory? If you are using the basic syntax CN=Users, dc=abc, dc=com ? If they have multiple OUs (Organizational Units) you may be able to use this syntax OU=Users, OU=Dallas, dc=abc, dc=com Then set up another LDAP search for a different location OU=Users, OU=Boston, dc=abc, dc=com This way each location has a quicker and separate LDAP search. There is a free ldap browser from Softerra that can help you figure out the exact syntax of the OUs. Just don't use...

Re: Billing For Banner Length Prints
My understanding is that the MFP "clicks" every time it measures X length (based on single/double click) pass the registration roller. That being the case, the banner would charge for whatever length passes, so (assuming single click 11x17) if you print a 34" banner, the MFP will click 2 times. Interestingly, if you print a 42 inch banner, the meter should click 2.47 times. Those fractions aren't visible, but the technician I spoke with assured me the machine remembers them and adds them up...

Re: Why is single clicking an 11×17 on a “copier” legal?
A Konica Minolta Banner sheet is technically only one piece of paper. Are you saying that it should be single clicked also? The only reason that this is an issue is the common practice of Print for Pay shops to run all or almost all of their letter jobs two up and then cut them in half. The end result is to produce 10,000 Letter sheets, that is what they will deliver to their customer. But the choose to do them two up on 5,000 11x17 sheet to cut thier cost in half. But the MFD gets the same...

Re: Can the new Canon systems do this?
By a Nested Folder, do you mean scan to a single sub-folder? "In a folder hierarchy, Nesting refers to storing a folder inside another folder. You can nest folders inside of folders ad infinitum, but it becomes more unwieldy to retrieve them." http://www.pcmag.com/encyclope...ation&i=54516,00.asp All Toshiba product can easily scan as deep as you require into a sub-folder via SMB. The Network Scan path gets more complex but there is no limit.

Re: Seperator Pages?
Is your customer really sure they want to go there? Keep in mind that EVERY job would be seperated and count a click on the meter. First of all, I'm not sure but I think that the seperator page (or banner sheet) would be treated as a separate print job adding to the network traffic. Regardless, consider the costs: 20,000 prints per month @ $.0075/copy and $.01/sheet of paper. If the average print job is 15 pages you have added $840/year to your costs ($2,400 over 3 years) If the average...

Re: Seperator Pages?
I'll try to remeber to look at this Monday...there might be a couple of options here but I need to research it: 1. If your set up is Client/Server, can't you turn banner pages on at the server and it will generate them? 2. If printing peer2peer (SmartNet Client, etc.) banner pages would be turned on at the individual workstation. 3. Some network cards can create their own separator pages. Thanks! Lee

Only way to do it is either using Scan Router Pro, OR you can scan to file and email from the PC. You have to go with a 1224/1232 or a 1060-75 or get in to a 3900NF or 5510NF to do actual scan to e-mail ad-hoc on the fly. Thanks Graham

Re: "cover page"
When setting up the seperator page browse out to the system 32 folder and there are 3 or 4 already created .sep files, all of which will automatically print a banner page before each print job that has the computer name and/or username on it. If this printer/MFP is on a server and being shared you would only have to set this up once, otherwise you will have to do this on each pc.

Re: 30 x 42 Half Scale
I stock and sell 15" paper (for other plotters that are spindle - loaded) but don't move very much, partly due to the need to offset the roll and CAD page setup hassles. Most customers are content with 22" output. Ricoh users don't have any choice.

Re: 240w meter count?
Yes, the 240W only counts Linear feet, and the manual says the drum and developer should go about 90,000 l.ft. The corona wire goes 20-30k, drum blade about 40-50k, we regularly get over 100k on the drum, except for damage. There were a few drums 2-3 years ago that would give ghost image problems on large jobs (over 70 sheets). this happened when the drum was a couple years old, but only had 30k ft. Reprographic Technologies has a great drum that I think is superior to the OEM, and costs...

Re: W2400 Waste Toner Bottle
Coming from the "overcoming customer objections" angle, that makes sense. All the same, it's a rare user that would change the bottle themselselves. It requires removing several screws, and two covers that are normally only removed for service. (these covers are a little tricky to replace too). The part number is "B125 3661 Collection Bottle - Used Toner". It is an assembly that has the sensor already attached. At the risk of sounding like a broken record: this is not an item that the...

Re: Ricoh 240w print options ?
The print card that was originally with the unit has a serial number that any print, pdf, or scan oprions originally purchased are tied to (via the serial number). That card is worth $1500 - $3000. It's worth tracking down if possible. Otherwise, I think "wide format guy" or Ratio America (http://www.ratioamerica.com) might be able to help you with a print card and options.

Re: Ricoh Distributed Scan Management with new 03 series
DSM will let you centrally manage scan buttons on an mfp (that supports DSM) to a folder, email, or SharePoint from a Windows 2008 R2 Server. Access to the buttons is controlled with AD. No OCR functionality but it is now an option on the mfp itself. No more individual address books to worry about. Ricoh announced support back in 2010 but unfortunately very few models have it.
