Re: Color clicks
JWS- Good luck getting your machine to count correctly! We went round and round with Ricoh and our rep about this. They swear it counts correctly, we know it doesn't. You are correct in that it can be application- dependent; some apps will click correctly, but Acrobat prints, when there are mixed originals, usually treat the whole job as color. I experimented with different drivers (PCL / PS3 / Universal PCL), but could never resolve the issue for our client (a church). BTW, the ame doc...

Re: scanning using auto color select
I've seen that on Ricoh and Canon products. So I think it's a problem with Acrobat more than the MFP. The issue is that the file is tagged as a "color" document so the MFP prints it as a color document. We tell our customers that when you print, the only way to be sure to get charged for a B&W print is to select B&W in the driver.

Re: Color Print Control
No, absolutely none of them do this. There is no MFP/printer (at least from Ricoh/Canon/HP/Lexmark/Kyocera) that will print a (truly) black document and click it for color. Now, there are many many times that a document appears to be B&W to the human eye and contains color to the computer's eye. The most famous instance of this is Acrobat 4. Acrobat4?!?!? you say? No one uses Acrobat4! But that's not true. For compatibility's sake, many scanners with a direct to PDF option (even...

PDF-A requires files to be self contained with some key requirements being no security, font to be embedded, no multi-media, no javascript, no attachments, no transparencies, no layers and no acrobat pro binders. Art, If the PDF will let you print it you can open it in Adobe Acrobat and print it to the virtual eCopy printer. It is then a new document with NO SECURITY associated with it. You may want to adjust the default printer settings to get the best results. Vince

I have now a test setup: Acrobat reader 9.4.7 A PDF with a pagesize of 1050 x 446 mm a 2401 with newest PS driver When I send the job, the printer stalls and asks for a JIS format. It is not possible to choose one of the rolls that sits in the trays. Isnt it possible to use some sort of auto tray select on the 2401? I am quite sure that I´m missing some basic settings, but I cant figure out what it is!

Andersand, Have you checked for updates on Acrobat 9? I would also try Acrobat X or 8 (just make sure they are also updated). Even the free Acrobat Reader is good for a test. Different versions of Acrobat all behave differently, and if they are not patched up to date they each have their own quirky problems. Vince

Re: 3850 & Camera Ready Art
From: JasonR Sent: 10/11/2002 7:32 AM Remember that even Ricoh is saying that the 3850 is BUSINESS color, as such there is no way this machine can be used for "real" proofing. A lot of people throw around the word proofing when they mean "prints we can do before we show this to the customer" or "prints shown to the customer with an understanding this isn't a "press proof". I'm glad to hear the 3850 output looks good, and for "camera ready art" while it isn't the machine I would pick, I'm...

From: Lee Sent: 2/23/2002 8:20 PM Just a note on PDf printing here. If using Acrobat Reader 5.0, be sure to update your print drivers. Reader 5.0 handles printing a little differently. When you select print with the old drivers, it looks almost like the computer locks up. It takes about 20 minutes for the rest of the print dialog to come up. If you then remove 5.0 and go back down to 4.0, you still have the same problem. Installing the latest drivers downloaded from the website fixes the...

Re: Software and Driver Update for 240W
Meant to also say that Acorobat is the issue, a new version of plotbase will not fix. Try going to acrobat reader and downloading the 5.0 version of reader. That should fix the problem. Printing PDF files through plotclient win if you have postscript also works. As a last resort, there is a 300 dpi windows driver avialable through Ricoh tech support - talk to your field tech support from Ricoh to get the driver.

There is no "fix" because theire is no error. Adobe built a 30 " limit into Reader 6.0. Work arounds include: 1. Adobe solution - purchase Adobe Acrobat 6.0 Professional 2. Open in Adobe 5.0 or lower - available at adobe.com 3. WITH PS option enabled, print through plotclient win 4. Re: Adobe PostScript vs. Emulation
All you have to do is look at the competitive analysis (See Attached) between the Ricoh C4503 and C6502 against the competitors from Canon, Xerox, and KM to see how much of a difference True Adobe PostScript makes in the printing speed. Emulation machines are noticeably slower, to the point that you could argue that a lesser Ricoh needs to be proposed in order to compare accurately.

First, make sure you are using the Ricoh driver from the ricoh website and not whatever generic driver the Mac automatically set the printer up with. start there. Second, Check the print settings at the driver level when you print paying attention to how the document fits the page and such. Third, Adobe Acrobat has quite a few print settings hidden in the system preferences in the background of Acrobat. Nuance (formerly ScanSoft) has been a good software partner through our Konica side of our dealership. http://www.nuance.com/omnipage/professional/ 2) Later versions of Adobe Acrobat (I have Acrobat 7) have the ability to do OCR. The file retains the OCR results, so you can reopen it again later and search without having to re-do the OCR.
