@Monte very true! Very well could be when. I will say with car buying, a friend of ours just bought a new car online - paperwork done digitally, car delivered to her house, and either a 7 or 14 day period that if she didn’t like it or want it anymore they come back and pick it up no questions asked. I often times get caught up in what “I” do and how “I” buy and not how “others” buy.

Very strange. I interact with the CRG on a regular basis and have had no indication of reduced staff, etc. I can’t comment on your issue with parts as we do not rely on xerox to send our parts, we stock and replenish out of our own warehouse. No substantial difference between xerox parts on b/o than Canon or HP. Not nearly as bad as Ricoh. We dropped the ricoh product years ago as we couldn’t handle the constant toner b/o issues. When we have a client that asks us to dispose of a printer/MFP, I know we have our delivery driver pick up the device to properly dispose of it, but I have no idea what happens from there.

When we decline to return a copier at our cost due to a competitor not doing this at their expense, we do suggest to our former customer two moving companies they can call to pick up the equipment. Of course, we will keep in polite contact over the next few years, as we known when the lease will expire next time.

They do keep on truckin', I'll give you that. With the big push to MPS, however, customers are looking to move to more of a distributed printing model instead of centralizing on a few big MFP's. Additionally, MPS has forced everyone to learn how to service HP devices if they didn't already, & anyone can pick up faster HP A4 desktops from Tech Data, & the CPP will be very comparable. The difference between Perry's 20% flat tax and Cain's 9-9-9 is that Perry's plan does not include a consumption tax (nat'l sales tax). I haven't been comfortable with the fact that Cain's plan would have even the poorest paying a 9% national sales tax on top of their state sales tax. I would be careful doing email blasts because they can be looked like they are spam and you will be tracked down and fined if not worse. They are unsolicited advertising. I am not sure what the laws are in Canada but I have known people in the US for getting in trouble for doing this same thing when they were called out on it. You old employer will not be able to completely stop you from making a living in your field. In fact the more restrictive the non compete is the less likely a Judge will be inclined to honor it. Can you post the non compete agreement (just sanitize the names on it). I have heard of a Judge who allowed the ex employer to pick a very limited area (NOT New England, but maybe Boston proper) this leaves many other territories available for a Sales Rep to work. That's one reason we took on Canon. We can have the machine in 48hrs or less from the Dallas warehouse, or we can drive there and pick it uup same day if needed. Ricoh screwed all the people in Texas when they closed the Dallas warehouse. We used to get stuff in about 2 days or less and could drive to pick it up if we needed. Now with our stuff coming from Tennesse, we wait at least 4-5 days for shipping.

Very similar to what we have taken on. Our inside sales team goes after the aftermarket business. We pick up additional revenue and more importantly anchor in to accounts as more of a single source. Do not try to sell them, unless we find an opportunity for several which would afford us price support. Otherwise, the good old www.cdw.com is tough to beat.

I tried all these tricks to get the software to recognize the envelope tray, but to no avail. There is a glitch between the software and the printer. Ricoh's suggestion was to bypass the envelope wizard, and have customer type out addresses in Word, and then print to the envelope. You know as well as I do that if a customer can't go to the wizard, their not going to do the extra steps to print to an envelope, they'll just go to another printer. This seems to be a pretty good box but I have seen some problems. First of all if you have the Muratec machine, make sure you don't forget to put the Muratec sticker over the Samsung label!!! LOL One pain in the ass thing is having to tell the machine what size paper is in the tray whenever you refill the tray or load the bypass. I can understand and accept having to set the bypass size but not the main trays!!! Kinda stooooopid if you ask me. Also you can't recieve faxes in 11" and 14". You...

We have a half dozen or so in the field, no complaints here, I did watch a customer send a print job of a 100 page booklet and there was no pause. Is this just happening with copies? If so, it could be a memory issue. The machine that I spoke about had the memory upgrade installed before we put it in the field. That may be the issue. Let me know what you come up with.

Art, while I know it's frustrating to have to run up against these types the one thing that is obvious in this is that you are the professional and you know as well as I do that in the long run you'll be there to pick up the pieces and the customer will be more loyal and less willing in the future to deal with the types exhibited here.

Here's my thinking and I should have elaborated a little more and should have been more detailed. 1000 pages per month @ .05 profit per page = $50, minus cost of giving away 500 @ .05 = $25, net profit (based on .10) is $25 per month, per machine. Mine contains 17 counties, but I look at where the numbers are. I can't possibly call all territories in a given month, so I do both cold calling, and mass mailings. The majority of my sales are coming within a 5 county area, which is where I spend most of my time. Its when sales are off that I will branch out into the other areas to try and peak some interest. We have a customer in the UK. A 24 hour print room. They love the TCRU. Parts are left on site. The fit them then we go and check the machine and rebulit units. Webs running out marks on fusers etc all dealt with asap. Even pm's Like many print rooms either swap or empty the waste toner everyone wins. Financially it doesn't make sense to destroy Ricoh's independent community which if you read this, every independent selling RFG would immediately drop them and pick up another manufacturer (we have already). Art, you've got it. Plus factor in the substantially increased mortality risk driving 100,000 miles in a 50mpg vehicle versus a 20mpg vehicle. We mask that by showing crash ratings based on the fiction that a tiny car will always hit or be hit by a similar tiny car. If you want to beat an IR C3200 with the Ricoh, simply pick a sample file that has a solid blue or purple background and have them automatic duplex the prints. The Canon will leave little white specs on the second side of the print. Also, have them do a photo original off of the glass. The Canon does not have a good scan quality off of the glass. FWIW, we haven't been a pandealer for many years now, and can still order parts, anything we want.. . . from MSC. What is MSC? I just got off the phone with Scott, my (former) sales rep. Apparently Panasonic cut 15,000 jobs nationwide (last day is end of February), and dumped all but the top handful of dealers. Those employees who lost their jobs can re-apply, but the "new" positions will be far fewer. Here's what I know so far: -If you have an existing Parts account, you'll keep it. Whew.

I don't know where you got the idea that presses had more down time. I personally don't think I would suggest that in a conversation with a printer. I also wouldn't suggest that your quality is better because it's not. A press also can run any color anytime without a $1,000 cylinder requirement for each color. They also have less registration issues than we do. Keep in mind that a press could be $30,000 or $300,000 or $1,000,000 plus so it kind of depends on what type of press you are being...
