Re: Desktop Shortcut to Scanned Images via store to HDD in scanner
Its pretty strait forward. Default the scanner to Store File to HDD. At the PC create a desktop shortcut to Web Image Monitor. Have customer click on Print Job/Store File -------> Document server. They will be able to download the document. The real problem though is you are encountering a lazy IT guy. Any IT guy worth his salt will help you set up scan to folder.

Re: Copier Parts & Accessories China Tariff Starts in 9 Working Days
I, for one, don't care much what Ricoh thinks about my selling options. Tariffs also have a way of redirecting business decisions. China may sease to be a viable place for manufacturing. No manufacturer has 100% of their maunfacturing being done in China. No matter what, the effect of any tariffs will be watered down by whatever manufacturing that is being done elsewhere. I would really love to see something that tells what % of manufacturing is being done in China broken down by...

Re: Is This the Beginning of the End for the Padding of Lease Rates?
This bill may not apply to Fair Market Value leases. There is no mention of establishing the residual value of the asset which makes the interest rate impossible to calculate. Is a .0278 rate on a 36 month FMV truly -0- interest? Of course not. If you don't end up with title to the equipment, you really haven't financed anything. What is the interest rate on a Hertz Car Rental? What is the difference between that an a 36 mth FMV other then the length of term?

Hello Art and the rest of the P4P members - Our industry association (ELFA), along with several independent law firms that represent many of our industry members are reviewing this legislation to determine the actual effects it will have on the industry as a whole and to provide guidance so that our members will be in compliance with the legislation. It's hard to place an accurate count on the number of trees we lose over a span of time because of the size of the number. Easier to track the loss of areas designated as forests since that highlights the biggest change, usually from nearly 100% of the surface area covered by trees to nearly 0%. The number of trees in a forested acre obviously varies wildly (from about 200 to well over 1,000 per acre), but let's use 500 to start. 500 trees per acre would equal 44 billion trees lost over the...

Re: KM Promo
This is just another marketing sales tool. What there are not showing is the buyout at the lease end. It is always a FMV. KM is using there own leasing arm. If you use a lease factor of .0278 this will show you a 0% interest. We have in state government accounts, what is call a deferred payment lease. This is the state price divided by 36 months. 0 interest, 0 down, 0 buyout at the lease end. But the sell price is fixed.

Re: CBS NEWS REPORT ON COPIER SECURITY
Well... Here's the deal. There are two levels of "Format". The most common "quick" format does not actually delete the data, it just forgets where the data is. That data can then be recovered by readily available software. A "low level" format actually writes over the data. Formatting a HDD a single time this way "effectively" destroys the data. The problem arises due to the fact that all this "writing" is actually placing + and - charges onto a metallic disk to represent 0 and 1. Even...

Re: Subject: Ricoh Introduction of the Ricoh Select Series
I think we all need to wait until we see the details. If this is a carryover from IKON (maybe an IKON rep can chime in) this is not anything like what we do when we "recondition" a machine for resale. These are actually reconditioned, repainted, etc. to the point that they qualify for a -0- meter again. Probably still too pricy for my company to ever buy one but I don't think we are talking about the same thing.

I was thinking more of a FMV lease. My current lease vendor is working to see if they can structure a lease where I guarantee to purchase the copier at the end of term (I must exercise my first right of refusal)at a higher than normal residual, they will offer 0% Financing.

Re: 0% Copier Financing
A lot of confusion around this topic. The leasing companies have a beat-down coming if they continue to falsely promote their FMV promo rates as "0% leases". Example, a recent manufacturer promo offered "0% FMV Lease!" for 36 months. But the lease rate for a 36 month deal was .027777. On a $10,000 machine, the payment was $277.77. The sum of 36 payments, $9,999.72 ($10,000). Problem? The machine still belongs to the lessor. Assuming that the residual value was 15% ($1,500), plug the...

Re: 0% Copier Financing
0% Interest financing is a popular financing tool across the board - you see it in the auto industry, furniture, IT (such as your apple example). It has never been a big seller in the Office Equipment industry business due to the business model that the dealers/manufacturers sell with. Many dealers are selling FMV leases (we like the upgrades)and not highlighting to the customer the actual cash purchase price of the equipment. 0% works best when a customer see's a purchase price (let's say...

Talking to several SMB business owners the objection to leasing is that they perceive the interest rate to be 15-20%. When we tell them the actual rate is around 7% because of low current interest rates, the objections seem to fall away. I appreciate making the differnce between 0% Financing and 0% leasing. I actually want to promote 0% Financing. I do think it might catch a buyer's attention in multiple competitive quotes. You are right in the copier business we are more so trying to sell...

Re: Scam from a Local Company
The WORST I ever hear about was a low life Salesman that would sell a 6/60 lease. They would sell a customer a lease saying that it was a six month trial and he would write a 6 in the space for months, then after the customer signed the document, he would add a "0" after the "6" and turn it in as a "60" month lease, no trial. As long as the customer didn't want t return it the sales puke got away with it, but he eventually got caught, and had to relocate his shell game. Gives Copier Sales...

I have been using Great America almost exclusively for about 4 years because I like the guaranteed residual on FMV leases (15% to customer) however, their rates are not even close to competitive. Re: Halftones w/JP8500 & Quark
Quick note about Quark and LPI. First the obvious thing, changing LPI will change the size of the dots in your Photo. a low LPI, like 60 will make the dots in the photo readily apparent(not always a bad thing). A high LPI like 133 will make the dots so small many pictures will come out as a big blob of ink on the duplicator. Secondly, Quark will downsample any TIFF image to twice the resolution of your LPI, so a 65LPI setting means you are printing 130dpi TIFFs, again, this isn't such a bad...

Re: I need a leasing company for a new customer
I have been very pleased with American Express. They have a New Business program...stipulations are that the maximum term is 36 months and the maximum funding is $25,000 and requires 2 down or one payment plus 10% security. There also is no Propoerty Tax for any deals under $25,000, 30 day NET plus 15 Day Grace period before late penalties, Buy-out to Return is less than sum of payments, and their end-of-lease terms are better than anything I've seen. 36 month FMV with -0- Down is .0271.

Re: For HP, Copiers May Not Be A Cinch
Another tool for your tool box that I haven't heard touted very often is the supply inventory issue. Our copier contracts include supplies. Therefore the supplies are being paid for in arrears and $0 cost for supply inventory. Any decent sized company is going to have $1,000's of dollars invested in HP supply inventory that is all paid for in advance. Any CEO, CFO type can latch on to that concept without any trouble at all.

Art: A) I understand about the pump priming method, however it seems like this is assuming the customer was not going to print any color if we didn't give it away to begin with. That is a HUGE assumption. I don't completely get your math. It seems like you're saying a 1500 volume would yield a big profit. If you look at the table below, assuming that color costs 5 cents to make and the customer pays 9.5 cents for the overages, you only make $20 a unit in profit at 1500 per month. If you...
