Re: Ricoh & Epson = "perfect together" NOT!

Jason H ·
They are never going to get their act together. I spoke with Jim Corridi at the CDA meeting several months ago and he told me big things were coming down the pipeline very soon because he agreed it would be hard to upgrade 3406WD systems with a 3406WD system. He also, however, acted like the Epson was going to be the latest and greatest thing for all of us that sell wide format. Not sure why since we don't typically mess with the ink jet machines. You can find the Epson's extremely cheap...

Wide Format is in a big transition right now, I know KIP is no longer going to be putting any R&D into monochrome printing anymore. Its all color from this point forward, I know Oce (or CSA) is thinking the same way. I can't speak for Ricoh but at this point why would you put any money into it. Ink jet is not the answer ether so the Epson deal in not going to get you into too many doors. If the KIP 800 series is priced right (somewhere in the $25K-30K area) a lot of them will be going...

Actually, I have been comfortable with this, because if some rich guy goes and buys a 10 million jet, they will pay one million in taxes and if that person afford the jet, I'm sure they can afford the tax. What it comes down to is that it's going to cost money to fix the problem. However everyone needs to pay, it can't be burdened on the middleclass. Just think of all the illegals in the country and I see em here in NJ, most are paid cash (never filing taxes), well as soon as they go to buy...

Re: Vellum

Jim Stocker ·
Looking in the Service Management Guide, the only types of media not supported are: Coated paper, Ink-Jet paper and envelopes. As Vellum designates the type of surface of the media, instead of smooth, I would say yes, it will. I've certainly not had any problems with running vellum finished media through the 3800C. Just a note concerning transparencies to finish off, use Folex X356 or X355. Hope that helps. Cheers, Jim.

I probably shouldn't tell you all this but there probably isn't any reason that the variable data printer wouldn't work on a PriPort with alittle engineering to get the unit heigth right and one unit secured to the other.. The MX1200 is a multi-head ink jet printer (Made by Graphics Wizard) that rolls up to the exit end of the Riso. You create the master on the Riso with everything that is non-variable. Then a mail-merge program of your choosing sends variable data to the MX1200 which prints...

KIP does have the Touch Screen and the ability to copy color original, not plot a file to a Wide Format Ink Jet. With the RATIO Touch Screen Interface & Plotbase|PM, you have many more features: - Use virtually any WF color Scanner - Add many more WF Ink Jets, LED's and/or small format printers to the configuration - Complete accounting / Invoice generating application (not just a spreadsheet as KIP offers) - Regular Windows PC is much faster for scanning and plotting (especially large...

Re: When selling wide format

Art Post (Guest) ·
Brian: Here we go. When calculating cost of the HP plotters there are two main costs associated with these systems. Paper and Ink. The ink is liquid ink the same type used in ink jet printers. I have calculated and done some very good guessing and have arrived at the cost of .07 cents per square foot for the cost of ink on an average HP plotter. Based on a "d" size drawing which is 24x36 or 6 sqaure feet. The cost for ink is about .42 cents give or take for more or less coverage. I think the...

Pitney, long the leader in Mailing systems has some fast ink-jet printers designed to print addresses and USPS req'd bar codes along with limited color graphics so this could be their answer for a mailing app. I have no knowledge of a spot color device that could add to a .pdf fole tho. A more clearly described need thaty your customer has would help - if it's addresses and spot color graphics on pieces to be mailed take a look at this link: http://pitneyworks.com/g/#addressing .

Your post brings this system to lite, I do not know much about the product, except it is an inkjet system with a wide format scanner attached. My first thoughts is that the ink is usually around .10 cents a square foot. Best quality is on ink jet wide format paper, plus the print speed for copies is probably very slow. Will keep looking for more infor. Please post any additional information here as you can.

The ink cartidges are the same as the cartidges used on a wide format HP ink jet machine. They have "radio chips" that tell the machine if it's genuine HP or another brand. The control panel uses a windows based tablet PC to run the op panel. It has some very good built in diagnostic tools for the tech. You can hook your laptop up to it and using HP's CDFT, copier diagnostic field tool you can run motors and check component locations. It even has the service manual built into the machine. I...

Re: 480W and "Hatch"?

I have more information, a "hatch" is actually shading on the drawing that is used for shingles, brick work, etc. The "hatch" is printing lite on the 460 compared to the ink jet system that the customer had. It appears to be a picture file, when looking at it in the plot base viewer it appears to be dotted. I was at the clients office today to check out the 480W. This unit was installed a less than two weeks ago and there were spots and uneven copy quality (faded areas where their should be dense black). I also got a chance to take a look at the "hatch". The "hatch" is actually used to shade the area of an interior wall on the drawing. The shading on the 480W was not even close to what the HP did. The HP ink jet was consistant even gray over the area, ours was blotchy and irregular. I am hoping...
