I'm on this program at home. He was getting regular shipments of ink that he didn't order. You'd think that would be a clue. Technically, when someone cancels our maintenance contract, the toner in the unit becomes unfunded. We have every right to go and remove it. No one ever does but the unused toner has not been paid for.

Very strange. I interact with the CRG on a regular basis and have had no indication of reduced staff, etc. I can’t comment on your issue with parts as we do not rely on xerox to send our parts, we stock and replenish out of our own warehouse. No substantial difference between xerox parts on b/o than Canon or HP. Not nearly as bad as Ricoh. We dropped the ricoh product years ago as we couldn’t handle the constant toner b/o issues. Hi, we sell Toshiba in the UK. The current colour range can run with a two tiered counter already. We used to sell the Kyocera range with this feature it seemed to be good and won us business, but lost us money in service. When colour costs are dropping to 4p, the percentage of toner from the 4p is getting less. So to breaking this down into 3 tiers could seem marginal. But let say you could offer 1.5p for 2% coverage then 2.5p for 2-5% coverage and then 4p for above, you have now lost out...

In Canada, no such plan exits nor am I even aware the capability exists within Toshiba copiers. In my market, multi-tier pricing for color does not comes up in competitive pricing. For a 25 cpm, pricing seems to be holding steady at $0.010 Black and $0.070 color for single units. I have seen less and sometimes we move the cpc around a bit. For example, when we set up a copier we build the initial toner costs into our equipment costs. That gives us 32,000 colour pages to play with.

Call that KIP sales Rep again and make a deal with him. If you can get the deal with 2 KIP 9900s (those will replace the 4 Oce's), then you get to be a KIP dealer. He will also spend half as much in toner as those Oce machines just eat toner.

The Epson argument has been going on for years. I brought one product in as a complement product and direct print production sales fought for Epson devices as part of the portfolio. I wouldn't allow it. However, with Vellek in charge of all product marketing, a lot changed. Overall profitability on Epson to Ricoh is about 7-9%. 1). The new e4508LP uses the heat of the fuser to decolorize the blue toner to clear. The seperate RD30 erasing device is still available and presents a few advantages. 2). There is an all inclusive cpc charge for the Erasable Blue toner. The cost per copy analysis suggests that if on a 60 month lease you do not expect the the customer to erase more than 210,000 pages (3,500 pages per month) you can forget the parts cost and charge the same cpc as for Black at around $0.010 per page with a decent profit. I'm with Art. I think the A4 systems are in the market to stay and soon everyone will have them. Samsung will also have A3 systems within the next 18 months to be able to offer them with the A4's on bids and tenders. We shouldn't forget old HP when we have this discussion...they still collect more clicks in NA than any other manufacturer and they are seriously getting into the managed print business. I got this from an email: Honestly nothing along the lines of a one liner come to me. However, when I was doing training on the 6755 once I botched the toner refilling process and got toner all over the room. Then as we were going to get some towels to wipe it down, I heard the maintenance guy fire up the vacuum and before I could run down the hall to stop him – the toner went straight through the filter and out the air vent … and ALL over the office. no 3-5 is not back in MPS. Toner out is a way of describing the sales model for standard laser printers, where the aftermarket revenue is generated by the sales of toner and other supplies versus charging a set CPC for all supplies and service.

My first thought is that your post has a lot of jargon in it I don't understand. (I'm directly responsible for MPS, so it's not that I'm unfamiliar with the terms). They sell to Ricoh USA and they work through their channels to distribute the boxes. Some great points in this thread. In the end all of the main copier products do the same thing...they put toner on the paper, fuse it and offer a collection of ancillary tools which in many cases are more important (like scanning) than the copy function anymore. Art...."SC" means Scan Centric....these offer 1st in industry to scan 2 sided hard ID cards/checks via document feeder. They also have Scan squared technology. Card Shot from the doc feed...upto 1/2" stack of cards. Card shot in scanning mode not just copy mode. Color dropout...removes all color from scanned documents...all the remains is black data. The toner capacity has doubled in size at 20,000 now therefore the cost per copy can be very low. They also completely rebuilt the fuser system...

Yes. Lexmark has been awesome for us so far. The only thing that I don't like is that we don't get any price breaks on OEM cartridges for non-BSD models. I was in an MPS deal, and the majority of the fleet required OEM toner (newer model), and Ricoh direct (surprise) under-cut our price by $.002, & we had priced the deal at 25% margin to begin with. Long-term if Lexmark is serious about their BSD program and wants to give their dealers differentiation, they need to give them pricing...

I looked this over and found many falsehoods in this document in selling against the "national vendors". Specifically, to say that we have no ties to the local community couldn't be further from the truth. Also, firmware updates are provided at no charge. Also, we do not charge shipping and handling for toner. Perhaps in the past, but since I've been with Konica Minolta, it is included. I'd like to add a more detailed rebuttal to some of these "sell points" that are most likely outdated.

I sell Ricoh and Canon. These machines are awesome for those "price buyers" who just want something basic. Instead of selling a MP2851, I can throw one of these in at a third less and still keep great GP. They can take a beating too. I have a customer who ran 15,000 prints for 4 months straight and I only got calls for more toner. I hate to tell you guys but they are great!

Most of the copiers we sell are assembled in Europe, but the parts come from China, Japan etc. So if the quake is going to have an impact on our sale then it probably won’t happen until (maybe) this summer... MP C toner is produced in Japan and bottled in US (according to the package) That could be an issue if the toner factories are affected

This is almost universally true. In the case of HP, it is only not true because of the price difference in HP toner and non-HP toner. We'd be hard-pressed to beat (for example) Ricoh on price selling toner we buy from Ricoh.

They are facing serious shortage of Polyester from Kao. Biggest damage for MFP production is aspheric lens production at Utsunomiya plant. This is a key component for their MFPs, and recovery may take months. Tohoku Ricoh: Some of the facilities restarted operation, but not for chemical toner. Also finisher (for MFP/POD) assembly lines are...
