Re: A Couple of True & Not So True Humerous Copier Incidents

Kyocera Guy ·
On a cold call I stopped in at a doctors office. The Office Manager was so glad to see me. She said that she was having fax issues and every time they received a fax it jammed. I told her I wasn't a tech but I would take a look. She escorted me to the fax and I looked down to see some questionably cheap paper. I simply asked if she had tried changing paper. She said "I don't have any control of the paper the hospital sends when they fax me." OooooK. She obviously didn't understand the...

Good god. what a piece of work (Putting it nicely). Talk about screwing over your employees. At what point did this seem like a good idea for a company of Pats size. I know everyone is hurting but the 100 mil dealer is not hurting like the 5-10 mil dealer right now in my opinion. Glad he bowed to the pressure but that should have never been considered.

I’m a little late to this party but had the thread open since it was posted. As a 35 year old i straddle the “millennial” and old school gap (in my opinion haha). There is value of ordering things online that can be commonly used or even basic electronics. But if it’s anything above basic, I still believe talking to someone even if on the phone, pays dividends. We recently bought a new vehicle for my wife and explored for weeks online our options, the new vehicles options, what the price...

I will also add since you mentioned wanting to do this on copiers/MFPs: our industry also needs to get the idea that MPS only has to do with printers & A4 MFPs out of their heads. Output is output, & our clients don't see any difference so why should we? Properly deploy what systems meet the client's needs (or just get rid of them if that is best) & be of service in whatever way you can. Hell, our customers want all of this stuff to go away (just wait til the Millenials are in...

No, we are not doing any of those agreements with our MFP's. With the printer the device billing would not include the drum, or fuser. Client would pay for those. Device billing is a practical maintenance agreement for the new A3 ink based MFP's. Epson will be launching their 100ppm color device shortly. The only consumables is the print head and the ink. It's rumored that the print head will be warranted for 3 years. In addition the print head is very costly. The idea would be to charge...

Well, I recycle as well, but my goal is mainly to prevent my trash from winding up in a landfill. As far as the trees, we're currently using more of them than we are replacing. The amount of forested area on the Earth is massive, so cutting down a tree or 100 or 1,000 trees doesn't seem like it makes any effect. Over a 5 year period, we lose about 1% of our forested areas. This means an area previously listed as "forest" has to be reclassified as something else like plain, swamp, etc. That...

RING binding is not a coil but it is plastic binder. If you look at the GBC option with the different dies you may get some idea. Ricoh's ring punch is only one type and it's installs the rings at the same time. It suppose to not slow up the machine. The binders are proprietary to Ricoh.

I think it is obvious what you do with people who don't want to work. It is just as obvious what to do with people who DO want to work! Incentives can be a great way to move a product or idea, but dis-incentives are more personal and can be very disruptive for that individual (ie: income tax, sales activity micromanagement). I am a firm believer that good salespeople like to behave as if they run their own business. When governing bodies try to enforce restrictions, penalties, and/or lessen...

Most copier brands now include the ability to email or fax the meter reads and service codes on a regular basis. I have never had a customer concern about this. Every Monday AM, I get a report from all of my recent copier installs. I have gotten pretty good at skimming these reports, seeing any problems and proactively dispatching a service tech. Customer really like the idea that I am electronically watching their copier.

Disclosure, disclosure, disclosure is the name of the game. I've not run into any step leases (yet) but know they are out there. I make it a policy to go over the T&C's of the simpliest lease agreement with the customer so that they understand full well. Can't tell you how many customers who were sold by former reps had now idea what the terms of their lease. To some it was a big surprise. Honesty and plain language is the best policy.

I've got a great idea! Why don't we package all these copier leases together, then divide them into thousands of "shares" that anyone can purchase? Eventually the demand for our high-paying financial instrument will exceed our supply, but we can always supplement that by offering leases to people who wouldn't normally qualify.

Almost no idea what you are talking about. In my experience, people who have workflows that would benefit from storing images to the copier also need a Fiery controller. In those types of worflows with high-res color images, its quite easy to wind up with very large files. I've seen files stored on the Fiery that were more than 1GB for a single file. So, in those specific types of workflow, yes, a larger hard drive is not only useful but necessary. For general office work, there is generally...

Correct, short CAT5 cable from printer to wireless print server. Best to put in a static IP into the machine, otherwise, you'd have to print to the hostname of the printer and have something doing local DNS to map it from the name to the ever-changing IP. You shouldn't need to do anything at all with the router. Just make sure your IP for the printer is in the same range as the PC. for example, the PC's IP is 192.168.1.1, you could make the printer 192.168.1.44 For small home networks, it's...

Blunder #5: They give a generic sales pitch. What they do: They natter on and on about their company, its offerings, and its strategy. Why they do it: Usually they’ve been handed a “standard” presentation created by marketing people who have no idea how to sell. What happens: They never really find what the prospect wants and needs, so the pitch is just a “spray and pray”. Your Action Plan: To avoid this blunder, get “centered” before your next sales call. Does most of the business world really have *no* minimum amount of copies included? Obviously, including 30% more than you are going to run is a bad idea, but if a minimum is set at a reasonable level, it's easier to budget your expenses. Also, reconciling those overages on a quarterly or semi-annual basis would help even out the peaks and valleys.

In order for the kill switch to be used, the country would have to already be in total rebellion. The difference between Perry's 20% flat tax and Cain's 9-9-9 is that Perry's plan does not include a consumption tax (nat'l sales tax). We have been tossing around the idea of offering IT services for the last 2 years. We do believe there is enough of a market there based on our customer's inquiries. Old Glory brings up a good point that we were anticipating as well. You almost need to have 2 groups. First, your install/analysts, and second your dedicated IT services personnel. While ideal, it may not be monetarily feasible for smaller dealers to carry the extra bodies.
