John, The PrintCopy Tool compares pretty favorably to Plotworks. I attached two documents to this post. The Product Support Guide lists differences between the two products. The PowerPoint has screen shots of all the settings in PrintCopy Tool. I hope this helps.

Jason, if it's not too late, you will need the Universal Send Security Feature Set. It allows you to set up a password-protect PDF files. They are encrypted to DoD standards. Here's a good link: http://www.imagerunneradvance....ssend_021f/func.html The encryption is the same across all iR ADVANCE devices.

Re: Oki 1450 vs Ricoh 6700 wide Format
So, the Oki or Teriostar 1040 is one page per minute faster than the Ricoh. Oki wants the user to replace the corona wire cartridge and the process cartridge. I believe the process cartridge is the drum. Now, the memories come back, if an end user scratches that drum, it's on the user to replace the drum which is going to be a very pricey item. If I was a business owner I would not want my peeps handling a part that has a cost of $1,500-$2,000. If they scratch it, it's on me to buy another,...

In an FAQ Document under wireless printing options it states, "When printing from USB removeable media, the Fiery will print Postscript and PDF File formats. Re: NEED HELP QUICK --- SINKING SHIP
Ouch, that's a tough one. If it's really a proprietary system, there's probably no chance of a converter being available. What's the actual file format? Does it save in an an autocad format? or HPGL? Secondly, why do you need it to be PDF? If it's for printing to a ricoh wide format, could they use a PDF print driver to drop the file into a folder for the Rioch to grab it from?

Re: Scan in One City, Print in Another
Good suggestion but expensive for a 20 copier install. ShareScan is a hardware add on level of technology to support and maintain that I was hoping to avoid. I was looking at eCopy Paperworks but this law firm has approx. 500 PCs. At around $180.00 per workstation this gets very expensive. Plus I am unsure if the law firm would move away from Adobe PDF. In the end, for me, for this quote, eCopy Share Scan is likely the best solution. It gives me a single solution for the required features of...

Re: CBS NEWS REPORT ON COPIER SECURITY
Here is a letter that management shared with us in our Monday morning sales meeting regarding the security of Ricoh hard drives. It is at least good to know that anything on the HDD is in a proprietary format. I don't think the difficult thing is going to be to make our RFG customers feel at ease that their data is not compromised. The real challenge will be addressing the concerns on competitive systems that clients want us to send back to the leasing company for them. Of course, that is...

We solved the problem. We changed a setting within InDesign CS5 from "Binary" to "ASCII". I do not know why this works since that same setting in InDesign CS4 is set to "Binary" but it fixed the problem. Much thanks to JasonR for taking the time to call me and discuss the problem. Not alot of people would do that and I really appreciate it. I have attached a screen shot of the change from within InDesign CS5. Feel free to comment on why this would have made a difference as I have no clue. John

Re: New A4 Color Models from Ricoh?
High Compression PDF (“JPEG 2000”): Reduces data capacity, while retaining image quality when color documents are scanned. When using the Ricoh High Compression PDF, the document is divided into the part of the character which is compressed by MMR and the part of the photograph which is compressed by JPEG. This results in the image becoming clearer and the capacity being reduced to a smaller file size.

Re: What is pdf/a?
My understanding is that PDF/A is the "archive" format and the main thing about it is that it does not rely upon any external links for fonts, graphics, etc.
Reply
Re: What is pdf/a?
that is correct. The idea if to create a format that can outlast the programs that made it. There is a fear that existing file formats would become unreadable as the pace of technology leaves them behind. The PDF/A is supposed to be application independant.

I quess that's why the system now comes with PSIII, tho enable the mail2print feature. I have questions also! Why would I need hot spot when I can have mail2print? Are there any other limitation with mail2print other than if you send multiple attachments only the first attachement would be printed and the fact that mail2print does not support hi compression pdf. I know there's the cost of the PSIII when working with the other mfp's to enable mail2print. But what's the cost to use the Hot Spot?

I tested it yesterday on an old Ricoh 3245c. It worked well on a PDF brochure aside from the fact that it didn't apply duplexing. On a Lease Agreement out of Word, it was a total debacle, not even close to being correct. I believe it split into 8 pages.

Re: Color Print Control
No, absolutely none of them do this. There is no MFP/printer (at least from Ricoh/Canon/HP/Lexmark/Kyocera) that will print a (truly) black document and click it for color. Now, there are many many times that a document appears to be B&W to the human eye and contains color to the computer's eye. The most famous instance of this is Acrobat 4. Acrobat4?!?!? you say? No one uses Acrobat4! But that's not true. For compatibility's sake, many scanners with a direct to PDF option (even...

PDF-A requires files to be self contained with some key requirements being no security, font to be embedded, no multi-media, no javascript, no attachments, no transparencies, no layers and no acrobat pro binders. Some major government bodies are already mandating PDF-A usage (including I believe certain parts of the US court system) and many are already recommending and are expected to mopve over to mandate including Euroopean commission, Germand and French governments etc. Many MFPs and PDF...

Canon's Cloud Portal - MEAP App allows you to connect a Canon ImageRUNNER-Advance to either GoogleDocs or MS Sharepoint Online. The MEAP App is free from Canon, and GoogleDocs will give you a free 1Gig of storage when you open a gmail account. Back in August 2010 I was told the following, "Although PPDM does address the PDF/A format, the copiers only support PDF/I for image.... Type f and later copiers will support PPDM without fail, the older copiers are an "iffy" solution as per Ricoh Tech Support." This was in response to the US District Court asking for PDF-A formatting.

Art, If the PDF will let you print it you can open it in Adobe Acrobat and print it to the virtual eCopy printer. It is then a new document with NO SECURITY associated with it. You may want to adjust the default printer settings to get the best results. Vince
