Re: Feature Article for February "BuyerZone.com Friend or Foe"?
From the industry side it is well known the margins are going down, not only on machines but I am noticing a decline in margins on the service side as well. With the industry move towards more color and capturing printer fleet output of an office... money has to be made elsewhere and more value added services provided by a dealership and even their leasing partner. Leasing companies do the same thing.. walmarting rates.. the lowest rate, but all the other hidden charges and fees and high...

Re: 480 Scanning Problem (odd size drawings)
I have not tested any scanning on the 480W as of yet, but I always train customers to set the scan size versus using scanner mode. My experience has been that if your scan is slight skewed or off center, the scanner might recognize a bigger size. When printing, the printer will APS a larger paper size or not allow printing at all. If you have a scanned original that is just over 36", not only will the job redline, but you cannot force it to print to a specific roll. Basically, you are left...

Re: Who Needs 11x17?
Yes, this topic could be debated for decades ... perhaps it has. But those of us who were copier before digital, were always fed the canned reasons for the quality differences between "PC" type and "Commercial Quality" boxes. Bigger is better? And therefore more expensive ... enter into the digital age ... HP already controlled the network (with Canon made laser engines), even they have gone cheap on the low-end thanks to the likes of brother who, while the first few models left a bit to be...

Re: Who Needs 11x17?
Here, I'll answer as many of Darren's questions as I can... Three But seriously... I'm sure you know the "answers" such as they are for the questions you posed. Yes, an HP laserjet 4 can print over 50,000 prints in a month. Yes, they can last well over 1,000,000 prints. Yes, their entry cost is amazingly cheaper than our MFPs. One of the reasons they are capable of doing that is that you replace 70% of the parts that might break and cause a service call each time you replace the Toner. It's...

Re: Sales Tips
Major Shift? Go to the Top If you are selling a service or product that causes a major shift in a corporation, then only sell to the top. A smart day-care center owner we know only markets to the presidents or CEOs of large corporations. Most large organizations don't want the "shift" and overhead of providing an in-house day-care center. Our entrepreneur proves to top management that she can provide them a needed service without a major shift.

Re: What's the application that will cause Capture to really grow in the MFP space
Geeesh, you ask a great question! I really not sure if there is an answer for that. All of my accounts scan whether it's scan2email or scan2folder. Most are then moving those documents to a place on the server or another pc where they are stored in a windows alpha tree folder structure. When I speak about entering meta data at the copier, so that they can perform a better search, it seems to have turned them off. Many users feel that they can find the documents that they've scanned and don't...

Re: What's the application that will cause Capture to really grow in the MFP space
So, you mentioned features...maybe the ability to just scan the document into a single repository while entering no meta data, no barcodes, and then the ability to find that document. I know it sounds kinda crazy but wouldn't that be the holy grail?

Re: What's the application that will cause Capture to really grow in the MFP space
Art: I certainly agree based on my past experience, people don't want to spend a lot of time typing information at the control panel. And I think I agree for some applications, having "auto-sorting" is the ideal. But does anyone see the need for scanning and pulling data into an application for analysis not just indexing?

Re: What's the application that will cause Capture to really grow in the MFP space
I actually have that application for two current prospects and even though both will benefit from the improved workflow, one is stalled and the other is scheduled for Feb time line. On the application that is stalled we need to extract data from a form and populate the data in another format, the ideal format would be excel, however my support people are suggested MS365, and that's where the deal has stalled and I guess it's stalled because the solution would not be one that generates a lot...

Re: What's the application that will cause Capture to really grow in the MFP space
Well we might be able to make these sort of applications easier for you. We have a tool that automatically identies what type of form is being scanned and can store it automatically based on rules. We also can automatically extract data and then pass it along to a destination app like Excel, MS 365, Oracle or something else.

Re: What's the application that will cause Capture to really grow in the MFP space
End users will not embrace a solution that asks them to enter all the meta data themselves nor should they. It is simply not productive. In a busy environment you cannot have people fumbling with a virtual keyboard to input data for a scan job while the line behind them grows. This is where software comes into play which will "read" the scanned image and capture relevant metadata to attach to the document for indexing in the DMS. Relieving the user of this burden and getting the most...

Re: no
The document server is a standard function on a Ricoh 650 copier. Make sure that you have not selected document server but rather the copy function key on the left hand side. If your control panel shows original modes on left, copy functions in the center and finishing options on the right then you have the right screen. Just to check the machine out you could hit the "user tools/counter" key and print a count page. Hope this helps you out.

Re: How Buyer's Habits are Changing
I think understanding how buyer's habits have changed & the amount of research they do online before agreeing to a meeting with prospective vendors is important, because the way dealers market to companies in their target market needs to change. Traditionally, dealers (regardless of size) have relied solely on salespeople canvassing or cold calling on the telephone to target prospective customers with little focus on company-supported marketing. Dealers typically do little to no email...

TXEagle, Great rant. I think you are spot on. Given the changing buying habits, we need to provide helpful, relevant content to prospects. Instead of content about our industry (they don't care) they need content that connects with the questions/problems they are facing. Then we can make the bridge to our products/services/solutions. Do you have any stories that you can share about how the buying process has changed? Originally Posted by txeagle24: I think understanding how buyer's habits...

Re: Fujitsu Introduces New Production Scanner Featuring Advanced Paper Handling Technology to Enhance Productivity and Maximize Efficiency
I took a quick read of this new scanner, and the one item that bothers me, is that there are work flows where scan2folder is the preferred delivery method. It behooves me, that there is no production type scanner that also offers scan2fold or scan2email.

Re: New Exit Tray for Ricoh MP W6700_MP W7100 & MP W8100
Just a heads up on that tray.......if the customer bumps into the tray there is a very good chance that the metal tray will fall on your customer's feet. I had it happen to me. To see what I mean mount the tray on your 6700 and push the tray forward in the center......the two hooks will disengage and the tray will come crashing down. I came up with a very simple modification to this tray that will eliminate the possibility of this ever happening. The addition of a couple of self adhesive...

Sales Professionals Get To The Heart Of What Matters
Heart is greatly misunderstood. Heart is relevant in sales, culture, and in leadership yet so many get it wrong. Getting to the heart of the matter, if sales reps are unable to uncover a personal or emotional need for the prospect to make a change, then they might consider breaking off the meeting, thanking them for their time and move on to the next prospect. Yes, I know it may be harsh BUT all too often many sales reps will continue down the journey without finding what motivates the...
