Re: CBS NEWS REPORT ON COPIER SECURITY
Well.... not really. I do agree there is a "concern" about your info left on the copier. However, the vast majority of copiers will have little or nothing of value and it'd take me a significant amount of time to determine if the copier had anything worth taking. Give that I'd have to pay at LEAST $300 (as in the CBS story) for just the CHANCE to find out if there may be some shred of info there, I think it's very doubtful any identity thief would pursue this. Even if they did, it would...

Re: Data Destruction
I'm a security guy. As soon as this client mentioned an end-of-lease security concern my first thought was to shred the drive. I've seen quite a selection of software on the market with claims of getting rid of the data for good but upon further investigation it's not 100% reliable. We're only as reliable as the solutions we offer. The obstacle here is that, apparently, leasing companies don't care to have hardware returned to them with the HDs in 1000 pieces. I have a good friend that runs...

Re: Fuser problems on DSc338/C3828/1238
when you say thick paper i hope you mean no more than 43lb. bond. any heavier will cause your fuser to shred up just like the 3800. most spec sheets say 90lb. index is the max weight but 90lb. index translates to 43lb. bond.

Re: AP3800/CL7000
you should read the paper weight specs on these printers and then instruct your customers that they will have to purchase new ones when they shred up. these fusers will not shred unless the wrong paper is being used

Re: Bizhub C652 & TaskAlfa 500ci
I understand giving away the razors, since at the end of the day we are in the razorblade business. But our competitors are destroying the margins on the razorblades, too, which is bad news bears for our industry. My guess is that reps who get paid on the aftermarket are the exception rather than the rule, and most will give away the store on the clicks to hold onto any shred of GP they might have in the box. Some dealers are paying their reps on what they make on the back-end, which...

Data Breaches Common At Financial Services Companies
October 1, 2019 • Jeff Schlegel It seems the world is engaged in an endless game of whack-a-mole with cyber thieves intent on stealing our money and privacy. It stinks, and it doesn’t help when employees at companies get careless with safeguarding sensitive information in either digital or analog form, making it easier for it to fall into the wrong hands. A new survey from data protection research firm Ponemon Institute and document destruction company Shred-It found that 68% of surveyed...

Re: So your copier gets hacked !
Just keeping it real based on being the guy setting machines up on customer's networks going back to the earliest networked MFPs in the 90s. Truth is the MFP is the least of most customer's vulnerabilities. Most customers in the small and medium sized business space have little if any network security. Never mind the wide open shred bins that could be a gold mine of info. I see so many businesses who set their own networks up or have a friend or family member do it for them on the cheap. Crazy.
