Tokyoamsterdam: Japan's Canon plans to buy Dutch copier and printer maker Oce for 730 million euros ($1.09 billion) as it tries to return to growth after the global downturn and fight rival Ricoh. Copier and digital camera maker Canon and Oce said in a joint statement on Monday that Canon intends to offer 8.60 euros per share, or 730 million euros, for Oce's outstanding shares. Canon's offer follows little over a year after Japan's Ricoh, the world''s largest copier maker, bought US office...

Yes, Ricoh (with IKON, RBS, SAVIN, LANIER) still holds the #1 position as of end 2010 Q2 (April through end June 2010). Yet, they are down -18% (in terms of Units) as compared to the same time period last year (2009).

Re: NY Times Article about Ricoh Japan
Having read this article and comparing what has been told to us regarding a lack of product inventory by mid June, something just doesn't make sense. To still expect a 16+% increase in Profits YoY after what has happened seems unreasonable. Ideas anyone, other than outright misrepresentation of the facts for investors but that's too big a risk.

A COMPUTER virus created to sabotage Iran's nuclear programme and stop Tehran developing an atomic bomb was designed by American and Israeli experts, it was claimed yesterday. FYI. To be technical, Windows 8 introduces SMB V3, improving security features among other things. http://www.windowsecurity.com/...SMB-Connections.html Although supposedly backwards compatible with SMB V1 & V2 found on most current MFPs, the transition is not quite as seamless as Microsoft hoped for. SMB V3 will likely require firmware updates from all of the copier manufacturers to be compatible. I have no idea on the Universal Print drivers until you try them. It is only a short time...

Re: Single click for 11 X 17
Well, there are a couple of ways to look at it. The fact of the matter is, the Canon dealer probably doesn't have a very good handle on the situation. And if the client is running a high percentage of 11x17, then they are going to lose out in service and supplies. We charge 2 clicks for 11x17. And, although I may lose a deal every now and then, by not being close enough to make a difference, we aren't going to lose our pants on mismanaging service. Your service manager is being sensible, you...
