I remember it well and at ComDoc, in the early 80's we sometimes put the offer out there without it being a formal price plan. I think the customer realized that a lot of the toner they purchased and stocked was useless at end of the machines life. It was like a primer with a customer who had that and TCO on their mind, it was a way to close them. Equally, I remember taking it one step further in the early 90's with copy management - the first all inclusive (hardware, service, supplies)...

I call used machines "Off Lease" and tell the prospect to think of them as a program car, still very good but someone else took the retail hit. I say if a used machine needs to be re furbished I don't buy them. I don't sell used machines with high meters with the exception of Ricoh's "Greenline", we don't know the meters on those and I'm not impressed with those, lots of quality issues.

Art, one of the problems is dealers servicing a machine for $30.00 a month. however, the reality is the industry has allowed the sales engine to destroy the service model. selling full service on A3 for .006 or less in volumes of 5k a month. Dealers were chasing sales revenue as they sacrificed service profits. As volumes continue declining so will margins. Anders good questions. Flat Rate billing is simply a billing method. The most vital component is understanding cost. Our industry has known customer volumes for decades. We also know it’s declining. Customers’ will not change printing behaviors based on billing. Obviously, each dealer will determine their T&C. The smart ones will focus on controlling cost of labor and increase their FCE, they will sell the right equipment in the right volume band, and they will understand the importance...

The difference in our iDaaS model is that volume DOES impact cost. Other flat rate model offer a rate with no impact on volume. Our program uses the current customer volume, service efficiency, margin expectations as well as our data on over 4 million devices to help remove the variables and concerns over switching to a no meter billing model. Larry I believe, you believe it, yet it seems to me the involvement of "C" level execs on LinkedIn is very low, unless they are all lurkers. There's only a handful of "C" level execs in our industry that promote, inspire and engage. One of my biggest concerns with LinkedIn is that most "C" levels execs either don't have the time or are too busy running the ship to become active. Art, Nice comments. Love the Promote, Inspire & Engage! Just as the dealership website is a necessity so is their LinkedIn presence as well. Most don't give a second thought but they should as this directly affects their image. Setting aside 30 minutes per day is not asking much. Set the example.

too bad there are so many crappy sales cultures in the business world. Too many companies look at sales people as a necessary evil and pay too much money to consultants that are so far removed from the industry that they don't have a clue. Most of these "consultants" will make a statement that we can make add more profit with our "new" program. Most times that program is to cut the comp plan of the sales people. I call it "Ikonism"

I'd like to hear from people who have transition into MNS and are actually making money with it...making a profit that actually makes it worth it. Between the CDA members and others in the industry, I have heard so many people who are doing it to be deeper and wider in their accounts but the IT business is not profitable for them. I guess on the other side of the equation I'm hearing a lot of people who are buying an IT company and integrating them into their imaging companies. Seems the way...

we're doing it, not sure if we're making money on it. Not privy to that part of the business. Stratix is one of those that just bought an IT company, seems that is the way to go since those IT companies are already turning a profit.
