About to hit 17 years in the industry now so seen a few.. Sold a scanner to a strip club, I was new to the industry and just a teenager at the time - made the mistake of asking what they wanted to scan Had a "serviced" copier in a massage parlour (inherited the install base so I cant take credit for this) Sold/installed copiers/MFD's to both of the last two Prime Ministers offices/houses Installed a fax machine INSIDE a jail, there was a very dusty gap and some cables on the desk so I asked...

Re: Things getting weird for Xerox Dealers

Toner in my Blood ·
Very strange. I interact with the CRG on a regular basis and have had no indication of reduced staff, etc. I can’t comment on your issue with parts as we do not rely on xerox to send our parts, we stock and replenish out of our own warehouse. No substantial difference between xerox parts on b/o than Canon or HP. Not nearly as bad as Ricoh. We dropped the ricoh product years ago as we couldn’t handle the constant toner b/o issues. Parts I can somewhat understand, but toner? Hope that your...

Re: Toshiba now has tier based CPC's?

Calums ·
Hi, we sell Toshiba in the UK. The current colour range can run with a two tiered counter already. We used to sell the Kyocera range with this feature it seemed to be good and won us business, but lost us money in service. When colour costs are dropping to 4p, the percentage of toner from the 4p is getting less. So to breaking this down into 3 tiers could seem marginal. But let say you could offer 1.5p for 2% coverage then 2.5p for 2-5% coverage and then 4p for above, you have now lost out...

Re: Toshiba now has tier based CPC's?

SalesServiceGuy ·
In Canada, no such plan exits nor am I even aware the capability exists within Toshiba copiers. In my market, multi-tier pricing for color does not comes up in competitive pricing. For a 25 cpm, pricing seems to be holding steady at $0.010 Black and $0.070 color for single units. I have seen less and sometimes we move the cpc around a bit. For example, when we set up a copier we build the initial toner costs into our equipment costs. That gives us 32,000 colour pages to play with.

I can confirm a new offering. Xerox has a new program for signing on new dealers and not putting them in the Global or Agent bucket. These dealers can then be trained to use thier own technicians. I will check with my source about them using Xerox techs.

Re: Xerox explores sale of leasing finance unit: sources

Flavio1 ·
Oce did that 10 years ago and went bust. They didn't realise how much they relied on the monthly rental income and how inflexible third party leasing companies are when you want to upgrade mid term. The financing arm is usually the most profitable side of the business. High interest rate to customers, low rates for them and if the customer goes bust you generally get you equipment back and at the end of the contract you get your gear back.

Re: Is selling at cost the future for print hardware?

lep524 ·
Interesting approach to the sales process. Strikes me the next promo is for 10% below sticker price...of course unlike cars, manufacturers don't put a sticker price on MFP's to advise the public what the price is supposed to be. At this point we find the margin we are able to obtain on most sales of hardware barely covers the cost of sales for the product...any business profits come from services bundled around the hardware, either connectivity plans, support plans, supplies for colour etc.

The eCopy Solution is not exactly cheap. With ShareScan, all of the Connectors and 5 year M&S on 20 copiers located in six cities, the extra cost is approx. $200k. I need 14x Black 65 cpm and 6x Colour 65 cpm at approx. $200k. I can pitch the $400k but I do not have six independent dealers with any techncial support familiarity with eCopy Share Scan.

Re: A4 Page Volumes

In my marketplace, the used A3 market (especially Colour)is still able to displace new A4 products at the same price. Colour quality and reliability has improved a lot over the last few years, so even a one generation old colour copier is very much in demand. The marketplace has a strong demand for colour that for me now exceeds black. Of course, this is not great new for new A3 sales. Customers who have an A3, generally want to stick with an A3 replacement copier. A4 products are sold with...

I will do this but only on the terms of if the MFP works as described you agree to buy/ lease that same unit without any further demos. Our dealer rep from Sammy was in late last week to discuss what we need to be able to handle the 11 x 17 release. In Canada they say it will be a 35 and 45 B&W and a 25 and 35 colour. Part of what they see is the ability to bid for larger deals where there is a need for SOME 11 x 17 but they can still do large part of deal with A4 product. He said they expect it for first quarter 2011. They know they are going to be an also ran in some ways but if they get the CPC in line then we know...

Re: Monocomponent vs. Dual Component

lep524 ·
Can't comment on the Canon use of single component but Kyocera uses this system and the copy quality consistently is better than equivalent Ricoh's we sell. As long as the unit is running enough prints to go through the toner on a regular basis you get better quality not less. The mixed developer gets refreshed with the toner and keeps the image quality up. They use mono component for their new colour as well.

The X652de is a great machine I used to sell heaps. While it prints duplex It isn't a duplex/RADF scanner though! You need to go to an X464/X654 to get full duplex copy/scan. The HP M4555 is proving to be a great A4 device for us in this space, but almost everything we are doing is colour these days so our most popular box is the CM4540

Re: Custom Page coverage meter

The new series of Kyocera colour MFP's that was introduced last summer provides the means to set three tiers of counter for colour based upon the coverage of colour on the page. This permits setting three price levels based upon the amount of colour coverage. The settings can be adjusted by the dealer to fit their price model. It means you don't have to pay a full colour page price when you print a small colour item, say a logo, if the contract is set up this way. We just won a large...

Among many other incentives, Samsung is offering a significant per copier Credit Card reward on both their Colour and Black A3 Models to attract sales reps interest in promoting these products. The products themselves use a mono component toner/developer/drum system with a slightly higher Breakeven cpc. Due to aggressive intro promos, the copier crooks in my territory are already promoting the product in hopes of big commission cheques. The crooks often cannot get any other new A3 product...

I hope to get to 2500 emails sent once a quarter a year from now. That would be 10,000 emails a year prospecting to new customer's As the message I send is very small with no pictures or web links, I do not get shot down by many web filters. So far only a handful of people have asked to be deleted from the list.

Is this still a current product? I am fairly certain now that a Fiery RIP does not have the ability to print in "Auto Colour". This can have a major negative effect on the Total cost of ownership. I have been informed that Ricoh colour product in general does not have "Auto Colour" when printing. It is a copy feature but not a print feature. Is this true?

Re: Pro C550EX

It is still listed as current on the Ricoh USA and Ricoh Canada websites. Are they just trying to quietly clear them out? When you add a Fiery controller, regardless of brand, there is no auto colour. I was very surprised to learn about this Fiery weakness. The question is can the Ricoh general line print in auto colour? I know they can copy in colour.

I got a lead today for a 65 cpm Colour machine from the emails I sent out yesterday. "The harder you work, the luckier you get" I like to put little helpful tidbits in my emails. I will take your advice Chuck and track down that book. The current one I was doing was during flu season offering a free bottle of hand sanitizer to place next to your current copier. I thought it was a perfect excuse for me to do a site visit and place my logo next to a competitors product.

Re: Samsung Says Offer for Sharp’s Photocopier Unit Rejected

SalesServiceGuy ·
The A3 manufacturers have their antennas out listening to what Samsung has to say and offer and will react defensively to maintain market share. Samsung's new product line only goes up to 35 cpm in Colour A3, relegating them to an add on product line for any dealer. If a dealer gets too far out of line with Samsung, assumed discounts on 55 cpm Colour copiers might not be approved.

Re: Samsung Says Offer for Sharp’s Photocopier Unit Rejected

A dealer might have grown accustomed in the past to receiving certain discounts on new hardware sales. If a dealer starts cherry picking between two product lines, of which one product line only goes up to 35 cpm Colour, a manufacturer might decline to offer special pricing on faster models if they do not see their whole product line being quoted to customers.
