Re: Top Color Production Systems?
They are going to sell all non inkjet printing and all non-production printing patents and downsize significantly. Good lesson for everyone about reacting to the inconvenient truths before its too late. Kodak made too much money off film to accept the transition to digital and never recovered.

Re: Magazine article from IKON Exec. saying they weren't interested in small accounts.
In light of this discussion, I'm sure you all will groan or laugh at this one. I came home one night from work, and in the driveway of the house two doors down was a IKON delivery truck! The new resident was an IKON delivery driver, and he got to take the truck home with him at night instead of driving back to wherever his loading facility was. How would you like to have that thing sitting in your neighborhood every night for a year?! (He's thankfully no longer with IKON - now he drives a...

Re: Buyer Zone: Yay or Nay?
That's just it, we won 2 deals but couldn't get either of them of approved. I think one of other big fails is they fail to deliver a message that vendors are paying for the service. I've had a few customers who actually screamed at me that they had no idea what they were getting themselves into by clicking submit. I recently went back and revisited all of the BZ leads we never got hold of, and although and less then 5% of all of the people I spoke to said they bought a system from BZ.

My sales month ended today, thus allowing time for our beloved bean counters the chance to close the month on the calendar end of month. don't mind and I'm kind of use to it. I figure that closing the month early gives me two end of the month chances to close some orders. Of course one is our actual close and the other is calendar end of month. This Week in the Copier Industry 15 Years Ago for the First Week of May 2005
Back in 2005 I was just 2 years into having a real web site for the copier industry. I started back in 2000 with an message forum with MSN communities. It was really cool because there was no on-line forum where sales people and principals could chat, share ideas, share war stories, share information, share competitive info and the list goes on and on. Twenty years later there is still no site like the Print4Pay Hotel. Did I do something right? We're still the only site that allows members...

Thanks to all who responded. IKON closed them before we could overcome our VP's awareness of the rates in the world. Thanks to Jim for answering the BEI question. As a sales manager, and in order to be competitive, I believe I should be able to write orders at tne National BEI rate, and force service to adjust either parts usage, or effeciency, to maintain profitability. We only have a handfull of 90/105's in the field, and they all average under 150k a month, so our own data was bad when it...

Re: This History of the Fax Machine According to Art
Loved the reflection on the history of fax. Although this was a relatively low residual product it offered a new way to get in the door. In the 80's, I would follow the fed ex delivery driver who often was delivering some printed pages (agenda's, schedules, documents) that needed to be there next day or sooner. It was an ear opener when you tell them you can them there next minute without the $12.00 fedex charge. Using afterhours timing for reducing long distance charges helped separate...
