Sharp is much more desperate than Canon. Whatever the deal, I'm sure it was beyond anything a financially secure company like Canon would consider.

I don't think that anyone who bought an Edgeline, or further back the HP rebadged Konica MFD's, will be keen to give HP another go.

Re: Sharp CEO States "I believe it is my responsibilty to...)
No money means no R&D. Sharp is getting destroyed in Canada. Since Konica Minolta purchased Pitney Bowes' imaging division (Sharp's largest dealer in Canada), they've been offering customers massive incentives to flip their Sharp gear into KM bizhubs. I think there's more value in Sharp's direct channel base customer list than the actual technology. I've always found the MX series to be lacking in quality and ease of use. Prices have come down on Tier 1 products which means Tier 2...

Re: Sharp "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly"
Art, I'm in Japan this week meeting with key clients and have asked this question to several. In typical fashion, no one wants to speculate on what will happen. Is this a good or bad sign? Is Sharp changing a good sign? If it doesn't is this bad, or does it mean it is continuing its commitment to our industry? Since the year 2000, 50% of Fortune 500 companies have fallen from its ranks--no longer considered leaders (by at least that standard). This is most often due leadership...

This Week in the Copier Industry 10 Years Ago, The First Week in August 2008
A little of news this week is that the US Dollar is growing stronger vs the Japanese Yen. When this has happened in the past Japanese copier manufacturers have decreased pricing here in the States. When you couple this with the Chinese tariffs that may go into effect this week, it could mean that our industry may not see price increases. Japanese manufacturers might just bite the bullet on the increases in order to keep boxes moving out of the plants. BTW, the dude in the picture, had just a...

Re: Committed to Dealer Success
No I'm not. In the case of Formax, you would call them and they would give you the name of the Authorized Dealer and I'm assuming it would be the same case with Muratec since there are no dealer locators on their web sites. Is there really a need to have 6-8 dealers covering the same geo area along with the Direct channel. Here's an example, in my territory in which we are Authorized I can't remember the last time I received a lead. Some of the manufacturers sights are slanted to delivering...

Re: Top Ten MFP & Imaging Industry Predictions for 2016
Nice! I would like to contribute a few of my own predictions as well: Xerox will sell its MFP division to focus entirely on production equipment and business services. Toshiba Tec will not sell nor merge with Sharp. Toshiba is too much of a powerhouse in North America alone. Konica Minolta will continue opening up direct branches due to the rapid growth of their brand. These branches will quickly fall apart when they realize that the dealer model is more profitable. Samsung will start...

Faced with increased competition for fewer units running less volume due to digitization, dealers...
