Urgent: embedded PaperCut for cost recovery + eCopy for scanning

John Mooney ·
Help?!? We have a law firm that wanted PaperCut but REALLY liked their eCopy scan stations for their Ricohs Our issue is that when they try use /access scanstation to scan it says the scan-station is in use by another user. We’re are using twain scan version 5 and papercut has been set to allow host based authentication from their end. Based on past experiences with embedded software , once a user logged into embedded it would just open to the copier where they could scan with ecopy easy peasy.

Art, What makes eCopy so powerful is its large connector catalog (250+). The problem has been poor support. BUT, eCopy has recently hired 4 key people from EFI \ Fiery. I am having dinner with Lenny Bono (formally of EFI) and Lynda Maglio (originally eCopy now Nuance Dealer rep) this week to see if Nuance is ready to make the changes necessary that Dealers have been demanding. I am encouraged that Nuance has brought on 4 key "copier guys" from EFI to try to make right what the Nuance (Drop...

Re: The Future of Scanning for MFP's aka Copiers is in the Cloud

Art, Interesting read! Here's a little "trick" I figured out. Setting up Cloud Scanning is very easy and can be without any additional software if the cloud storage offers a folder on your PC. For example, Dropbox and Google Drive when installed place "drag and drop" folders on your desktop. You can then set up a small workflow for scanning to the cloud by registering a Scan To Shared Folder and set the Dropbox or Google Drive folder as your destination. Your scanned document will...

Czech Thanx for the reply, you have been scanning to a single folder on dropbox for years and recently added google drive on the 5 year old MFP we used in the sales area. You could set up multiple "buttons" on the MFP for additional folders.

Hello Gordon, One of the advantages of the cloud is that you can easily make the same solutions available all around the globe. So yes, Udocx is available in Australia. We will reply to your email shortly.

I can't say that I agree that scan to email or folder are dying in my experience. Scanning to Office 365 should only require a special connector configuration in the hub transport layer. Like traditional scan to email or folder the first time is difficult and it doesn't seem like it's worth the effort but in time it should become more simple. "Scan to Cloud" seems to be a vague term as most people who are looking for a solution like this may be referring to scanning to their application...

JS: ok, maybe I shouldn't have used "dying", let me say that users are looking for more options than scan2email or scan2folder. Most I talk wish there were more options that would save them time. I agree, mist want to scan back to their business line of software. Thanx for the comment!!

Hey, here's a good question for you.  Do any of us carry around demo originals anymore?  I can't remember that last time I even looked for one.  Back in the day, if you didn't carry demo originals with you were probably not selling much.  When it came to copying documents from the glass, I used to ask the customer for their originals instead of using mine.  Great for the demo, because they got to see real time quality of their copies.  NEW...

jdicarlo ·
John, Does the user want to track scanning done on the ScanStation? If so, you would need to engage Ricoh and/or your PaperCut provider to create a ticket. But before I would do that, I would try the basics first, firmware up to date on the MFP and Java if it is installed on Java, then the latest version of PaperCut that is supported on the MFP. If they don't want to track ScanStation scanning, try setting the Authentication on the MFP to not require authentication for Scanning. These...

Thanks so much for replying I've been banging my head with so many different "not my job" responses from vendors it's driving to an early happy hour. They'd like to track the scans but like you said I'm just trying to see if we can get the ecopy to unlock period. Cheers
