@jason Good points. Do other people buy cars online? How about insurance? Did they do that 5 or 10 years ago? Guess who is very involved in the purchase of MFP's. IT! They live online. What's the first thing many people do when they are considering a purchase. Google it. In my opinion it's not a matter of if, but a matter of when.

All excellent points. My son (35) asked me the other day about Carvana and my thoughts about them. The first thing that came to mind is warranty, and service. I guess the question becomes (at least for me), what will be the relationship with the dealer for service and warranty when you bought the car from Carvana? Why should the local dealer expedite service, parts or put you at the top of the list for support when you did not buy from them?

I’m a little late to this party but had the thread open since it was posted. As a 35 year old i straddle the “millennial” and old school gap (in my opinion haha). There is value of ordering things online that can be commonly used or even basic electronics. But if it’s anything above basic, I still believe talking to someone even if on the phone, pays dividends. They are never going to get their act together. I spoke with Jim Corridi at the CDA meeting several months ago and he told me big things were coming down the pipeline very soon because he agreed it would be hard to upgrade 3406WD systems with a 3406WD system. He also, however, acted like the Epson was going to be the latest and greatest thing for all of us that sell wide format. Not sure why since we don't typically mess with the ink jet machines. The Epson thing is a joke. You can buy it on-line for less than you can buy it from Ricoh and so can your customer. I've got a customer right now who is at end of term on a 48 month lease on a LW426 and I have no choice but to go back to them with the exact same machine......oh and my cost is now higher for that same machine thanks to Plotworks (which gets thrown in the garbage). Would love to have KIP now.

Art, the big thing is for Nuance/Copitrak do this you need external tablets, and people are pretty sick of ecopy. We embed right in the MFP for Ricoh, Konica, Canon and Xerox so even if there's too many months left in the current lease we can embed the software in the current equipment and then just move the license to your MFPS when it's time to change hardware. I just did that with a POA rep in Denver, the customer had Canons and when they're ready switch we'll move it for a very small...

Tx, ty for this this. I don't bundle MA/Supplies. I just don't want my customer to get jammed in case there is a loss. We've had quite a few losses here in NJ with the storm from a few years ago. I'm just looking for the right thing to do for customers who opt out of the leasing companies insurance. I'm somewhat skeptical of giving them stream of payments plus residual, may open up a can of worms.

As much as I am not a fan of A4, but realizing it’s our necessary evil, I hope they do. The A4 has for the most part killed it for us as sales people. We have to sell many more units to make the same revenue....revenue, I say....profit margin is good for the most part, but we still have to sell more united to keep everyone happy. Was the worst thing a manufacturer could do in my opinion.

Use a router to create a mini wireless network where the copier is the only thing connected. Velcro the router to the back of the copier. Name the router's wireless Copier. Plug router into copier with patch cable. You can get a wireless router on-line for less than $20 these days.

no, no code for that. I was speaking to someone who mentioned that this canon mfp thing was going to be rolled out to HP direct and no dealers. However we all know how fussy the japanese are with quotas and I would tend to agree that if HP direct does not hit the "numbers" that these systems maybe rolled out to HP dealers. Thoughts?

Maybe I'm wrong about this but with the combined boards isn't there a chance John is a non-Ricoh-type person? I think Hotspot printers are a great option, other than the USB thing. Still trying to figure out how to handle the student walking in with just a USB drive. I guess he could email the doc to the printer from home .

I have one of these in the P4P market, after 4 months all seems well and customer is satisfied with media offereing and quality. The one thing that has changed for this unit, since its the same engine as the MPC6000 and MPC7000 is that default from the factory is 11x17 single click and lower consumable costs. No they need to produce two part forms on carbonless paper. well I'm finding that out about the PlanetPress and Dataworks after the fact. The last thing I needed to so was go back and charge more. they are typically user customized in the application. For example a law firm printing to an HP 4000, when they print a letter it's always in dup or triplicatel; right? So the program is set up when they select to print, a letter that they get: 1. a print on letterhead 2. a print on plain paper 3. a print on colored paper 4. an evnelope. I always run into this when replacing printers, because it never is configured to do the same thing, and i have like 30 legal secretaries wanting to kill...

Merlin -- you are absolutley right...like any business there are several costs. but you never know if a dealer had special terms with a their manufacturer to order x amount - or if they were trying to acheive a certain level to hit their quoata or win some award? If you can't speculate, how do you know they are idiots? The business model of selling products at a loss to gain future revenue is not new. Microsoft loses money every time someone buys an xBox, Dell gives away printers costing $1,000 for free, Razors and blades, etc. All of those examples have been very successful for years.

Our agreement says the same thing. Otherwise, no one who can utter the phrase "I never got the bill" ever has to make a payment, or we must send all invoices certified at extra expense. At a MINIMUM, you owe $311.15 EVERY MONTH. Pay it EVERY MONTH, whether you get an invoice or not.

In the end all of the main copier products do the same thing...they put toner on the paper, fuse it and offer a collection of ancillary tools which in many cases are more important (like scanning) than the copy function anymore. Here's the thing about this plan: if the customer says "we don't share that information" that's OK, you are on equal footing with everyone else. If they tell you who is in the deal (as most customers will) then you are on equal footing with everyone who asked and have an advantage over everyone who didn't.

Art....looks like you found the culprit. My guess the modem was fine but the router would be what I would check. Usually once the IP on the MFP is set this will not change and should not zero out. What may be happening is you might be using a switch instead of a router...then your internet provider is using more intelligent DHCP servers that reset the IP address every 4 to 6 hours. Installing router will create an internal network with 192.168.xxx.xxx behind the firewall. I just did this...

AVG = know issue at install. Afterwards, it works fine. And that system restore was exactly the right thing to do. In this case, it was likely the service thowing the password for the local account that it was using. The only thing I would have done different is see if the local admin password the Plot Base was installed under had been changed.

Yes. Lexmark has been awesome for us so far. The only thing that I don't like is that we don't get any price breaks on OEM cartridges for non-BSD models. I was in an MPS deal, and the majority of the fleet required OEM toner (newer model), and Ricoh direct (surprise) under-cut our price by $.002, & we had priced the deal at 25% margin to begin with. Long-term if Lexmark is serious about their BSD program and wants to give their dealers differentiation, they need to give them pricing...
