Re: The Effect Currency Evaluations have on the MFP industry
Toshiba recently revealed that it actually profited from the strengthening of the yen that took place during the first half of its fiscal year through September. The company has apparently moved much of its manufacturing and product sourcing outside of Japan since 2009, resulting in the yen's rise positively impacting its earnings. Toshiba made 48 percent of its products in Japan between April to September 2009 and bought 45 percent of its components from Japan-based suppliers. By the same...

Re: Are you a Data Miner?
In the first round of 700 emails that I have sent out so far, I have sold one 20 cpm Colour and quoted a KIP wide format to customers that I would have never met otherwise. I hope to get to 2500 emails sent once a quarter a year from now. That would be 10,000 emails a year prospecting to new customer's As the message I send is very small with no pictures or web links, I do not get shot down by many web filters. So far only a handful of people have asked to be deleted from the list.

Re: Are you a Data Miner?
I would be careful doing email blasts because they can be looked like they are spam and you will be tracked down and fined if not worse. They are unsolicited advertising. I am not sure what the laws are in Canada but I have known people in the US for getting in trouble for doing this same thing when they were called out on it. There have been many studies on this topic and it has a very very low rate of return. Just look you sent 700 emails with only one small 20ppm unit sold. Most people do...

Re: Interesting Apple/Mac thread for PS printing
There are some workarounds to printing without the PostScript option from Mac OS. However, like most workarounds they have limitations. It is frustrating that you can buy a printer for a few hundred dollars and print from Mac but a $5k+ MFP requires an additional $700 -$1000 investment. Does anyone know if you have a Mac with OS X Lion or Mountain Lion (which has AirPrint built in) if you can print without the PostScript option? I've recently had a lot of iOS (iPad and iPhone) customers...

5100/5110 replaces 550/700, 6502/8002 replaces 6501/7501. And with this model there are actually some significant differences between the pro and office models so don't just sell them the pro one because it must be better. For instance the warm up time is 60 seconds for office and 5 minutes for pro.

Re: Can We Do This?
From: Lee Sent: 5/31/2002 11:11 PM I hope the customer realizes that the $700 a year really doesn't cover a whole lot, since almost everything in the machine is considered a supply item. I played around with a 220 once doing what you are talking about. The 220 had the ability to print straight TIFF files. I took a 350 with an Axis 700 scan server and plugged in the IP address of the 220 in to the Axis 700 as a destination. When I selected the 220 destination on the Axis 700 and scanned my...

From: Lee Sent: 3/10/2002 6:37 PM The rumor mill says that the replacements will be here 90~120 days from now, a 60 and a 70. The rumor mill also says that they will be using the GW architecture of the 10 series. This should bring scanning, Desktop Binder etc. to the faster machines. Since they will have an integrated controller, they won't be able to put Fiery's on them like they have the 551/700.

Re: 1060/1075 paper weights
So they are different from the 551/700? Those machines could run 110lb index through drawers 2 & 3 if the 100 Sheet stapling finisher was on it. This is because the other finishers wouldn't take 110lb index. But, the finishers on the 100/1075 take 110lb. See the dilemma.

Re: 1060 v Minolta Di551/Konica 7155 need help!
Oh yea, thanks also to Gregory for his reply - unfortunatly I found out the hard way that the 1045 (as well as a used 550 or 650) is way too slow in mixed size original mode. I did the demo on a 650 right in front of the customer and the machine was way slower that their old Mita 55 cpm machine. These machines operate at 10 cpm - even the 650! The 551, 700, 1060, 1070 have a much faster speed of around 30 cpm.

I also think that you lose the shift sort functionality with this finisher (PLEASE CORRECT ME IF I AM WRONG ON ANY OF THIS). There are a number of pros and cons to this finisher, if you need and do lots of saddle stitch it is fine, if you do little saddle stitch and are going to get this for the convenience of it, I would stick with a...

Re: Bid pricing seen for new Ricoh C900 production color system
Thanks for the link Art. The pricing listed in this post is SIGNIFICANTLY below cost on all the products listed above (C900, Finisher, PerfectBinder, RingBinder, etc). If this pricing post scares the competitors to Ricoh and helps drive down costs on competitive units for the p4p community ... then great. Realistically, no one will ever see that pricing on the street for a Ricoh c900. Why would Ricoh price themselves closer to the Xerox 700 or KM 6500 when on the productivity side the c900...

Re: Adobe PostScript vs. Emulation
All you have to do is look at the competitive analysis (See Attached) between the Ricoh C4503 and C6502 against the competitors from Canon, Xerox, and KM to see how much of a difference True Adobe PostScript makes in the printing speed. Emulation machines are noticeably slower, to the point that you could argue that a lesser Ricoh needs to be proposed in order to compare accurately.

Re: Buyer Zone: Yay or Nay?
I struggle with keeping it when we spend 700 on month and don't have anything, then am all for it when we sell several machines. My best advice is to track it closely to make sure it is beneficial. I'm in a constant struggle with our owner about these types of things because he, like most owners, wants instant results not 6 month averages. I keep a running spreadsheet of what we have gotten, what we've sold, and the revenue/profit in it.

Re: RICOH MP 401SP vs SP4510SF Equals WTF!
We have published CPP's for both of these models. The SP 4510sf is anywhere from $.03-$.035, & the MP 401spf is $.0155-$.017. Based on that gap, the break-even is about 41,000 images. On a 36 month lease, that's a little more than 1,100 images per month, whereas on a 60 month lease it's not quite 700 images per month. Personally, I like the strategy behind having the two models priced differently. The printer manufacturers (specifically HP & Lexmark) have been doing this for years,...
