I wouldn't know, either we don't have access them or they are just available for Direct. It's been my belief that it's just a marketing ploy and all of the systems in the signature series still have to be configured. I could be wrong. Can anyone else chime in? Due to image quality, is recommended for transactional, transpromotional and direct mail applications.....Reminds me when I used to sell Riso and we made this disclaimer!!...Not great copy quality but if you are wanting something that is cheap and fast, we have it for you!!

SSG that's an awesome video! You can send links to clients, and direct them to your channel. It's a virtual demo that keeps on giving. Kudos I have some of the same issues with getting appointments through Linkedin, however I know of several peeps that use Linkedin as their only source for prospecting and they are doing well. I will keep working it since I have a Navigator account now

John, The PrintCopy Tool compares pretty favorably to Plotworks. I attached two documents to this post. The Product Support Guide lists differences between the two products. The PowerPoint has screen shots of all the settings in PrintCopy Tool. I hope this helps.

I heard it through the grapevine a while back that RBS (at least in DFW) is no longer sending field reps out unless opportunities are above a certain value, meaning they are handling the sales process via telephone and email from start to finish. I see this as being the way things will be done in the future. There are a lot more of those than there used to be. That's why our industry has to change the way they add prospects to the pipeline. They are going to have to actually start marketing for a change (spend dollars on marketing instead of salespeople) & do things to position themselves as a resource companies will contact when they need something versus salespeople throwing a million lines in the water hoping they get a bite. The Epson argument has been going on for years. I brought one product in as a complement product and direct print production sales fought for Epson devices as part of the portfolio. I wouldn't allow it. However, with Vellek in charge of all product marketing, a lot changed. Overall profitability on Epson to Ricoh is about 7-9%. This may be true of a commodity (like envelopes, or coffee, or even a PC) but copiers, really MFDs require a lot of attention, both before and after a customer buys it. So some clarification first. PaperCut absolutely does support Mac. In fact, it is the only cost recovery/print control solution that I know of that actually installs in an all Mac environment. (Server and Client) It also is the only solution I know of that installs in a Linux environment. So both of your issues are solved with PaperCut. I included the install guides for Mac and Linux to get you started.

no, no code for that. I was speaking to someone who mentioned that this canon mfp thing was going to be rolled out to HP direct and no dealers. However we all know how fussy the japanese are with quotas and I would tend to agree that if HP direct does not hit the "numbers" that these systems maybe rolled out to HP dealers. Thoughts?

Hey, same is true with KMBS direct, bottom line is dealers that have direct branches in their immediate geography will find it hard to secure any of the large bids or contracts. Direct Branches whether Ricoh, IKON, KonicMinolta, Sharp, Global, CBS or Global will continue to buy the clicks.

Agreed, Expanding direct sales was way at the top of Canon's priority list - especially after losing GIS,Danka,IKON. But without "Mega" dealers, this expansion was going to have to happen organically - which is hard. Ask the 8 CBS branches that opened this year without any clients or machines in the field. Given that Oce almost totally relied on direct sales. I would say that they easily have over 30 US sales branches. Maybe closer to 50. Those are both guesses though

two years ago the BPC side of Oce'(dealers that were purchased by Imagistics) produced about $40 - $50 million in annual sales. not sure what the direct corporate branches did.

Old Glory, you are way off-base regarding profitability to Ricoh on an $8,000 sale through the dealer or through their direct channel. When Ricoh sells to the dealer, the dealer is responsible for all ofthe end-marketing expenses related to the brick-and-mortar + sales rep expenses. When Ricoh (or other mfrs) run their own branches, there is a tremendous amount of overhead associated with that operation. It would seem that it all depends on where you structure your profitability. Since Ricoh is a Japanese manufacturer and sells its product to the US Ricoh company and then US Ricoh sells it to a dealer or direct, the profits can be structured to be very little if any in the US and very profitable in Japan. Ex: cost to manufacture is 10, sell to US mfg. sales concern for 20, US concern sells it for 22, dealers or direct sell it for 24. The cost of goods to the US is high and the profits remain...

Something to think about as well, adding to what was mentioned by Mega. The Japanese division is making the bulk of their profits on the manufacturing of toner. That is the money tree for them. They sell to Ricoh USA and they work through their channels to distribute the boxes. Well, my view the situation you describe is this: If Ford wants to sell cars directly, that's fine and they can do that. If they instead choose to sell cars through dealers, they do not need also come into the same market as those dealers and hang a big banner saying "$4,000 cheaper than not buying direct!" "Get better support by buying direct!" All I'm trying to say is this: If you have a dealer channel, support it. If you think direct is the way to go, just get rid of dealers. Simple enough.

The speed is definitely impressive. I too would like to know how this clocks in for cost of consumables and the ink's scuff resistance- especially for mailing applications. I would have to see some samples to judge the print quality, but there are many companies who aren't too concerned about that when it comes to statement printing and certain direct mail campaigns. Either way, I am sure there is a large enough market for it to be a successful product.

Yes. Lexmark has been awesome for us so far. The only thing that I don't like is that we don't get any price breaks on OEM cartridges for non-BSD models. I was in an MPS deal, and the majority of the fleet required OEM toner (newer model), and Ricoh direct (surprise) under-cut our price by $.002, & we had priced the deal at 25% margin to begin with. Long-term if Lexmark is serious about their BSD program and wants to give their dealers differentiation, they need to give them pricing...
