Re: Hiring Sales Reps - what are you hearing
Surprising there are no replies yet. I would figure this to be a "hot" topic. We recently found one in the age demographic that will work out. He has more than a 45 minute ride, has closed a few orders already. Maybe you need to show them $500 at the interview and ask how they would like to get that $500, by working a week or trying to talk you out of it. After reading your thread it seems that neither of those "salespeople" have the "desire" to compete, yet alone the determination to "win".

Re: Will outside Sales Rep's go away?
We definitely are not out chasing them but we are much more versed talking about them and the benefits of buying them from us rather than the big box store. It has led to some very nice MPS accounts for us this past year. I don’t have a final count but I believe we added about 3 million new clicks this year from printer sales. Not breaking any records by any means but adding an extra 50k or so of revenue never hurts. And thanks to brother for having a minimum advertised price online for the...

In reference to the above blog. If you want salespeople that want to make money (desire). When the interview is almost over, slap $500 bucks on the table and ask the person. How would you rather make this $500 bucks? 1) work 40 hours for it or 2) try to talk me out of it If they choose #1, tell em thank you and we're not interested. However if they choose #2 and they can get through ten minutes of trying to talk you out it, then I recommend offering them the job and not the $500 bucks. Just...

We are selling against these guys the same as you fight your low cost competitors. There are a few obvious detriments that seem to have stood the test of time. The revenue model can not possibly be profitable for 80% of your customers. Ridiculously low is exactly that, ridiculous and unsustainable. $500 worth of technical support will be used up mighty...

It's hard to place an accurate count on the number of trees we lose over a span of time because of the size of the number. Easier to track the loss of areas designated as forests since that highlights the biggest change, usually from nearly 100% of the surface area covered by trees to nearly 0%. The number of trees in a forested acre obviously varies wildly (from about 200 to well over 1,000 per acre), but let's use 500 to start. 500 trees per acre would equal 44 billion trees lost over the...

Good suggestion but expensive for a 20 copier install. ShareScan is a hardware add on level of technology to support and maintain that I was hoping to avoid. I was looking at eCopy Paperworks but this law firm has approx. 500 PCs. At around $180.00 per workstation this gets very expensive. Plus I am unsure if the law firm would move away from Adobe PDF. In the end, for me, for this quote, eCopy Share Scan is likely the best solution. It gives me a single solution for the required features of...

I have a handful of these small accounts that bill between $500 & $1,000 but those are the ones where the cost-justification is more difficult, since I.T. doesn't spend much time troubleshooting such a small fleet. In these cases, it typically comes down to managing the fleet for a little more than they currently pay just for consumables.

We charge an inexpensive fee (1 hour labor) to format the hard drive, but if they want something more secure, we will remove the hard drive from the old machine and replace it with a new hard drive. For that, we charge the cost of the hard drive + labor and either destroy the old hard drive or return it to the client. That typically costs less than $500 and is easy to roll into a new deal. We've done this on Sharps, Canons, Toshibas, Kyoceras and Konica Minoltas. The hard drives are easy to...

We did a run of 2,500 envelopes with an MS word merge for addressing. We finished the job in 75 minutes with no wrinkles, we did have several misfeeds, however I'm blaming that on me not knowing how many envelopes to put in each tray. We not able to fit and entire box pf 500 however we were able to fit about 250-300 at a time.

The dist then has to give tech support, parts dist etc. A few years ago they pushed all the smaller dealers doing less than $500K anually thru distributors. They're only 5 years old. The machines on 3 or 4 year leases do have value. You and I are both selling used 550's and 650's. They still are decent machines. A) It depends on what they are charing for the overages, not making $25 in profit by getting 1,000 additional color clicks per month could represent a profit of $50 per month for every thousand pages times this by 10 new colors units per month, we then have $500 every month, second month is $1,000, third month is $1,500, fourth month is $2,000, by the end of the 12th month with selling 10 units per month and each one doing only 1,500 color pages a month would represent a profit of...

That is a HUGE assumption. I don't completely get your math. It seems like you're saying a 1500 volume would yield a big profit. If you look at the table below, assuming that color costs 5 cents to make and the customer pays 9.5 cents for the overages, you only make $20 a unit in profit at 1500 per month. If you...

Here's my thinking and I should have elaborated a little more and should have been more detailed. 1000 pages per month @ .05 profit per page = $50, minus cost of giving away 500 @ .05 = $25, net profit (based on .10) is $25 per month, per machine. Yeah, I goofed! However, I also though of this. With monthly billing or quarterly billing to add a monthly service charge of $25 (for processing paperwork, meter reads etc,), if this can be done you are back up to $50 per unit. The whole idea is to...
