Re: Color MFP Trends, Tactics, etc
I havn't seen one placement of the frontier in my territory yet. But that doesn't mean they aren't out there. I see the whole copier industry making a shift to A$ devices in the next 24 months or less, they have too. Price is the driving factor, I've heard it all about A4's, such as "A4's can't hold up to heavy volume", oh yea then why do I see laser printers with hundreds of thousands of prints on them and they weigh under 100lbs? Heck, I just came from an account that has 180K on a Ricoh...

Re: Color MFP Trends, Tactics, etc
I would agree Art. However, Sharp may have been too bullish regarding how the Frontier line would take off. Back in May Sharp canceled five of the Frontier line's 18 models due to market conditions. Sharp no longer plans to launch DX or MX versions of a planned 50-ppm monochrome MFP and also canceled 31-ppm and 40-ppm color workgroup printers. I'm sure the economy didn't help, but it will be interesting to see how A4 MFPs fare in the 45ppm+ speed bands...

Re: New Samsung 11 x 17" Colour MFPs due Oct 01 USA
doesnt the sharp frontier series have color cpp right now that is close to a3 color? Seems to me like they're innovating faster and getting new features to market first and getting a share of the margins that come with that. I was really happy when c2050/2550 came to market and we had an edge for a moment, but think about it: print from smart card, free sharp desk seat, a4 color, segment 3's with single pass duplex scanning, pull out usb keyboard... Whats the value in ricoh dragging their...

Re: New Samsung 11 x 17" Colour MFPs due Oct 01 USA
Seems Ricoh, Canon and Xerox may be the last of the holdouts. When speaking with a rep at Ricoh they were concerned that A4 devices will lower profit (image that, they do make a profit on a box)expectations especially if A4 takes off. With the presence of Sharp, Samsung and KonicaMInolta they needed to make the move. Keep in mind though that neither KM, nor Sharp has come out with an robust A4 monochrome (don't know what they are waiting for here), remember I stated robust A4, something along...

You should check out the Lexmark XS658dme/dfe. 55ppm, single-pass duplex color scanning, open architecture, scan-to/print-from USB. It can handle 20k/month easy.

Re: Vision News 08 Orlando
Got it, well they are not A4, alas will this be a missed opportunity with the market changing to A4. Xerox, Samsung, Muratec and Sharp (Frontier, just heard their first commecial last night) all have seen the light with the coming of age of A4. I'm sure these units will be fantastic, however it will be tough to comepete in a tough economy with the likes of the Sammy 40ppm color that has an MSRP of under $6,500. I can't wait for the Big Launch to learn more about these units!!!

Re: Vision News 08 Orlando
That's a real drag and I believe that Ricoh and Dealers will lose clicks and boxes if they do not have competetive A4 boxes. Ricoh touts their new LV color box will be $2,000 less than the MP2000, still that makes the unit higher than the sammy and the proposed frontier box, plus the customer will get 40ppm instead of 25 or 20ppm. I understand this whole value proposition however will the customers understand and enbrace it also. I guess that will be a question that will be answered over the...

Re: Sharp Becomes First MFP Provider Working With Alexa for Business to Enhance Technology in the Workplace
ok, it's got some sizzle, but where is the beef? Practically no one copies anymore, thus the only use I can see is for scanning. I have five Alexa's at home, great for playing music and asking questions. I guess I could ask Alexa "scan documents to Rob", and with out noticing Alexa sends those documents to "Bob". I just don't see the applications, can someone enlighten me, maybe someone who was at the recent Sharp event?

New Jersey Bill Would Push State Government to Go Paperless

Proponents say that eliminating or reducing the volume of paper used in state agencies would mean less waste, lower costs and streamlined operations. “While going paperless is a large feat, it has the potential to save time and money, as well as save the environment," State Sen. A Selling From The Heart Professional Is Not A Sales Settler!
I applaud DirecTV with their bold and 'direct' ads on TV. They continue to make an impact within the cable TV wars; but they've also made a substantial impact within the sales world (more in a bit). In a sales campaign from a few years ago, they play on one single phrase which showcased a frontier-era family in a suburban neighborhood stuck in antiquated ways such as a horse-and-buggy and, by the way, cable. “We’re settler's son, we settle for things,” explained the father in “Neighbors”...

Rules of thumb...sell nothing but the need for an appointment on a phone call or initial call. Also never "sell" during your fact-finding for several reasons: 1.) The fact-finding process gets interrupted or stopped. 2.) You come across like a dog salivating over fresh meat. 3.) You tip your hand and lose some of the thunder you will get from your proposal. 4.) You inspire additional questions and thought processes that the prospect will then discuss with competitors. read the rest in the...

From Weekend Copier Notes: "IDC announced that in the first quarter of 2009, the new Sharp Frontier series of color laser A4 MFPs were the most popular product in the 31ppm to 44ppm category of color MFPs. Unknown if this means more company were downgrading from A3 (ledger size) to A4 (letter/legal size), or if they were replacing desktop color laser printers and bringing more sales into the MFP market." Looks as if this surely is having an impact out there, at least for SHARP.

Re: USA Presidential Poll
the defense spending does a lot for the economy and their are many jobs attached to the spending, I fear a large cut will put many many civilians out of work, and not only the ones that work for the Army, Navy, Air Force or Marines. Companies like Lockheed, GE, Tyco, etc. The first priority needs to privatize the US post office and turn it into a profit center and get it out of the loss column. Second cut foreign aid by 50%, let china spend their money and we'll keep a strong defense just in...

to me the biggest item that help affect us as salespeople is the further migration of A3 to A4 devices. Sammy previewed a 70ppm device, and if they continue to gain market share the big dogs like Xerox, KonicaMinolta, Ricoh and Canon. I reviewed a quote the other day for a medical office.
