I am just about....37 yrs young. Started with in 1993, SR year of high school part time servicing printers. After 2yrs of serving printers, married for 1 yr to my high school sweetheart I was envious of all the "copier reps" driving nice BMW's etc...I asked if I could start selling. When I first started selling in 1995 we carried Canon/Mita. I had an uncle who sold copiers and typewriters back in the early 70's and managed a large dealership in CA until his retirement in 1990. Re: Pietrunti Gig

Word on 'The Street' says that Global Imaging Systems, owned by XEROX, has hired Mike Pietrunti. Mike knew to abandon ship at Kyocera MITA and has landed at a very sound company, with Global. He will be far better off than landing at Ricoh and helping them transition to a strictly Direct operation, or helping SHARP manage their MFP business into extinction. Both Global and Mike Pietrunti made a good move.

Oh yea, thanks also to Gregory for his reply - unfortunatly I found out the hard way that the 1045 (as well as a used 550 or 650) is way too slow in mixed size original mode. I did the demo on a 650 right in front of the customer and the machine was way slower that their old Mita 55 cpm machine. These machines operate at 10 cpm - even the 650! The 551, 700, 1060, 1070 have a much faster speed of around 30 cpm.

Just wanted to let you know Merlin is not me, even though the moniker sounds like my real first name. I too am from Falconer NY, but my method of expression is different than Merlin. I'm a techie, and from my viewpoint, I find some features of the Mita a little cumbersome. Reliability seems to be much better than the Ricoh, although 3 years isn't long enough to get an overall picture. Ricoh machines used to have "strong" assemblies but the later models have been "flimsyized". Kyocera/Mita...

Boy, it looks like our whole company is responding here. As a former "real" tech, and long time service manager of a long time Ricoh dealer and relatively new Kyocera Mita dealer, my opinion is that over all, the Kyocera products are much more reliable, have much longer PM cycles and require much less service time for both the infrequent emergency calls and PM's. Bottom line...much cheaper to service! Although the 2035 is an improvement over it's predecessors (350, 1035) it's not a herritage...

Actually, the official PM cycle for the 3035 is 400K while the 4035(3530) and 5035(4030) are 500K. However, "everyone" does the 3035(2530) at 500K since everything about the three models is identical including the PM kit. The 4530 and 5530 PM cycle is 400K. The really nice thing is that the PM kits for the 3035-5035 consist of modules (throw away) that you just swap out. They are guaranteed for the life of the PM. At first, Kyocera was very liberal with this warranty but lately they've been...

This is interesting information, I was just got into a large situation where CANON w/ e-copy is the inncumbent. They love it. However all I have heard from end users is how volatile e-copy is. It seems that the perception of not how it does but the end result of the actions is what people are biting off on. In the end, I think that it comes down to how well we can position in. I know i need to work on that end.. What I am trying to get at though, it seems that scanning is all well and good,...

I'm probably about to prove my ignorance of wide format. 6,000 sq.ft. per hour is 50 d-sized a minute, correct?
Reply

Re: Canon U.S.A. to Launch Océ ColorWave 900 at PRINT 13

JasonR ·
Here's the math: 6,000 Square Feet / 60 minutes=100 square feet per minute Divide that by 3 (if your wide format is 36") to get linear feet per minute = 33.3 Divide that by 2 (since D is 24" long) to get 16.67 per minute This machine's rated speed is 12,000 sq feet an hour,or 200 square a minute. Divide that by 3.5 (since the machine is 42" width) to get 57.14 linear feet per minute. If you are printing D size prints, divide that by 2 to get 28.57 per minute.

That is Fast! In my experience, the limiting factor in scanning w.f. originals isn't the hardware, it's the ability to load, position, and un-load the originals. I like the way my Savin machines can be easily converted to a "flat" scanner, which when used with a SureStack, can really scan fast! You are only limited by your ability to load the next original.
