Re: MPS and Linux HELP!
So some clarification first. PaperCut absolutely does support Mac. In fact, it is the only cost recovery/print control solution that I know of that actually installs in an all Mac environment. (Server and Client) It also is the only solution I know of that installs in a Linux environment. So both of your issues are solved with PaperCut. I included the install guides for Mac and Linux to get you started.

Re: Color MFP Trends, Tactics, etc
I would agree Art. However, Sharp may have been too bullish regarding how the Frontier line would take off. Back in May Sharp canceled five of the Frontier line's 18 models due to market conditions. Sharp no longer plans to launch DX or MX versions of a planned 50-ppm monochrome MFP and also canceled 31-ppm and 40-ppm color workgroup printers. I'm sure the economy didn't help, but it will be interesting to see how A4 MFPs fare in the 45ppm+ speed bands...

Re: How do I setup SMB Folder Scanning
I'm not sure about the techy stuff. But we have been doing the following. Input the IP address and use Web Image Monitor to put in the workgroup. Set up a shared folder on the network and browse for a folder in the address book. It should find the workgroup and all of the pc's in it. Here you should be able to select the folder and make it a destination. Good Luck!

Is your folder accessible from the other workstations? Also, are you logging into that folder from the client PC's using the administrator login? If you can access the folder from a client PC, using the Admin login, can you create a file in that folder, then try to delete it? If you can do this then you do have FULL access rights. If you can do all the above, then it seems everything is working. If you can't it must be setting on the server, double check everything. If everything works it...

Yes, I can access the folder from workstations and create a file in the folder and delete it. There is not a workgroup, it is a domain. The domain has .local after it and is entered correctly under smb settings. I can browse the network from the copier, but when I try to go into the "Server" where the share folder is located, it tells me that the password is invalid. Thanks for all the info it helps! Amazingly, over two years after I gave Ricoh the correct specs for the Océ TDS series, they are still totally wrong in this competitive lineup. The PC is NOT customer supplied, it is a proiprietary system from Océ running XP Embedded. The specs on it vary, but it is a minimum (for new systems) 2ghz PC with 512MB RAM. No, never use scanrouter if you can help it. It sounds like you don't have either the domain name or workgroup name in the machine. You can do all the other things you mentioned without these, but you cannot scan to SMB without one or the other. It is also deceiving because you can scan to email without either the domain or workgroup (whichever they use). See if this is the answer!

Guys...just a quick update on the 6345 in action. I have been using it as my workgroup printer, scanner, copier for about a month now. Generally no issues. It is a bit slow to get the first copy out and the first scan done as it comes up with a warning to wait for the scanner to warm up. Other than that it is a very easy product to use and it seems to run fine. No jams to date...finisher works...single position staple and sort. I can't find anything really wrong with it. Agreed that this looks very much like an Android. I'm surprised how fast the panel swipe is. Ricoh has definitely improved the ease of use. Do you think MFP's will soon come installed with Windows or Mac operating systems to become another workgroup computer in the office with print/scan capabilities? I have installed several MFP's w/ SMB Scanning on networks that have multiple workstations/domains and routers w/ wireless or no wireless. Of course you have to have one of the workgroup/domain names listed in the SMB workgroup setting on the MFP. This is the first step for ANY SMB installation. The default from Ricoh is WORKGROUP.
