Re: Should you ever sell something for nothing?
I am just about....37 yrs young. Started with in 1993, SR year of high school part time servicing printers. After 2yrs of serving printers, married for 1 yr to my high school sweetheart I was envious of all the "copier reps" driving nice BMW's etc...I asked if I could start selling. When I first started selling in 1995 we carried Canon/Mita. I had an uncle who sold copiers and typewriters back in the early 70's and managed a large dealership in CA until his retirement in 1990. When I went to...

Re: Aficio 6513 vs Minolta CF 2003
The key for Minolta Dealers, is that the CF2001, CF 1501 are designed for end user involement. All consumables can be replaced by the end user with not tech involvement. Or they dealer could choose limited end user replacement or replacement only by a technican. The key is end user replacement, just like HP! From the Mind of Minolta: The labor cost based on End User capability to replace the TFU's. Dealers need to be encouraged to allow more customer involvment. Service advantage over our...

Re: Kip 6000
KIP 6000 is very similar to 470. SIngle footprint, easy to use keypad, paper roll end flanges. Print quality tends to be good, copy quality is below average. on KIP 600 you need to reverse collate your originals when you need sets, or else when you feed originals 1 - 9, sets are ordered 9 - 1.

Re: Kip 6000
I sell both the KIP and Ricoh Wide Format Products. The KIP 6000 is a really good unit, especially in the hands of a really good sales rep. If I had to sell against it I would focus on. 1) The scanning speed. It can have on of four scanners. Most likely is the 2050 at 2"/sec. The 2080 at 3.2"/sec or the 2120 at 4.8"/sec. The Ricoh is a lot faster than the 2050 scanner. The way to tell which scanner is being used is to find out the model being proposed. The 6052 or 6054 is the 2050 scanner.

We've had several issues with the 6000's already. We have an account with 30+ and while not everyone has been a problem too many have, and yes we have had fusing unit issues, I believe we have replaced a couple of units already.

Art, thanks for your reply. A lot of GREAT points in there. I literally spent this weekend relaxing (much needed) and thinking about what you said. Here is what I've been thinking about: 12-18 months ago, I could win competitive deals quite easily with $2000 GP. Now, I'm losing with $1500 in a 45-ppm colour box. That means American pricing has flooded the rest of North America, where $1000-$1500 in GP in a commercial street deal seems to be the norm. To increase my closing ratio in...

BTW, the product launch documents are terrible for the new IMC series. Hoping anyone can help on this since Ricoh did a recent purge of marketing and product peeps.

From what I hear.. This model is identical to the C410 with the exception of the different color skins and the 6000 page yield toners. You can't use the higher yield toners from the C410. The marketing of this model will be heavily weighted to the IT channel. It will be on every web site deeply discounted.

I will be proposing two 5100's with total of 4 rolls, print/scan and one unit will have the Tameran Finisher, the other unit will have the stacker. This is a high volume engineering firm that requires redundancy. They are currently using two Kip 6000 units that are 7 years old and they cannot get software updates for. They are migrating to Windows 7 and there are not software updates that will support that.

If the cost per copy is anywhere near what it is supposed to be, like .018 or .019 or there abouts, this should help justify an upgrade. That means that an appropriate placement of a Ricoh 1035 at .012 per copy would save the client about $65 per month and a 1035 backed by a good service team will last at least 4 years. At a reasonably agressive $160 per month, it costs $95. And, there's got to be something in the way of prints or faxes that you can migrate to the system to help. At 8500 per...
