Re: Why in 2010 have we still not seen Solid State Drives (SSD) in copiers?
Much faster access time, 100% reliable, no moving parts, can't crash the drive head with sudden loss of power corrupting drive. Much smaller, lighter, much lower power consumption. Much less heat generated. Much less headaches for Service Dept compared to HDD as there is virtually no service required. An SSD can fit mechanically into the same hardware slot as a HDD. Just started showing up in laptops last year. MFP Copier vendors are always jostling to say they were first to market with some...

Re: Dealer reseting meters??? USED as NEW!
Nice work....super sleuth! How can anyone live with themselves screwing over a church of all places. It does sound like that admin was not doing her job or there were no checks and balances. The bad part is it would be hard to prove that the meters were rolled back. But if I was in the situation I would cost justify how much those units were and be sure they were NEW if our organization wanted new. How do you not know if you buying new or used. Like you said if you sign a lease with the NEW...

Re: Canon shaking up the great white north
One thing to think of is Regina where this happened is the provincial capital of Saskatchewan which is currently the strongest economic province in Canada (due to resources being super strong right now) so Ricoh is not going to be doing provincial government, health care etc. direct anymore in this province. That is a significant move and really does show that their direct model cannot cut it in the smaller markets.. They are not corporately dealer friendly so it will be interesting to see...

I have situations like this before, even though the 240W is only six years old, keep in mind they were around for almost 4 years! Ricoh has now listed them as "limited parts" or something to that effect. This is the first item I would tell them about. There has got be advantages moveing to the W3601 for them. Are they scanning if so, are they only scanning as a .tiff. Are they emailing the scans as .tiffs or are they converting to .pdf, if they are converting to .pdf, have they considered...

Re: How do you feel about the industry?
As a new sales rep with no prior outside sales experience this industry is insane. Going door to door cold calling isn't working. I don't know if it is just my approach or buyers have changed but the sellers haven't. My dealer is super old school. I asked for a recommendation on some crm software and they said use you're brain and a rollodex. Technology had dramatically changed the service side of things but the sales side is still in the 1950s.

Re: How do you feel about the industry?
I have been in the industry about 13 years, I would love to say 33 but I'm only 31 years old (just to rub it in Art!) If there is one thing I realized in my early years, you can't work somewhere for a year or so and go to the owner/manager asking for changes. You haven't earned your stripes yet, the business has seen hundreds of sales reps motivated with piss & vinegar ready to change the world and they crash and burn in the first 18 months. The typical copier vendors in my area have 50...

Sales have been excellent the last couple of months. I still keep up with my old boys at Systel, but it is a much better fit for me here. Tyler

Re: Gas Price Check
Art, you've got it. Plus factor in the substantially increased mortality risk driving 100,000 miles in a 50mpg vehicle versus a 20mpg vehicle. We mask that by showing crash ratings based on the fiction that a tiny car will always hit or be hit by a similar tiny car. That's how you can have 5 star crash ratings for the Smart Car and 3 star crash ratings for Hummer H2's, by pretending that all collisions will involve a similar sized vehicle. You can probably pick up 2mpg with just the...

Re: Print Collate CLP27dn and Adobe
Selecting Collate within MS applications (for 5 copies let's say)actually sends the document to the printer 5 times and requests one copy of each, so it will collate on ANY printer. Try this with a Powerpoint document (where the file sizes are larger). I've actually had people crash their print server by printing a 30MB powerpoint doc, asking for 100 copies and checking collate within powerpoint. Print file size was over 2GB.

Well, the unit arrived and took our technical team about 20 minutes to set it up...sight unseen. We have the fully loaded unit, 4 paper trays, fax, finisher with staple. It took a bit more time to put it on the network and we have been giving it the testing from them on. Early feel is it is a pretty good unit. Wouldn't want to put the document feeder into a site doing tons of scanning...but it is certainly fine for normal document copying and faxing. Only issue we have as yet is getting the...

Re: HP should Buy Xerox
I am deeply concerned about the race to the bottom with A4 product. A4 product certainly gets better everyday and some salespeople say it is just as good as A3...maybe true... except for your commissions. If you like Kraft dinner or Ramen noodles, downgrade your customers from A3 to A4. Let us not forget one of the largest A4 players out there is Lexmark. Lexmark is a 100% Chinese owned company called NineStar based in Guangdong, China. If you cheer MAGA, you cannot cheer Lexmark. God knows...

Re: HP should Buy Xerox
Appreciate the comments. However, your arguments regarding A4 vs. A3 pertain to what’s good for you. Industries which are going through disruption or when an industry’s particular product or its services become less valuable to those once dependent on them. The disease of Product-Centric thinking will infect those with a stubbornness to modify. It is not up to those who sell a product or service to determine its value. Its value is determined by those who buy the product or service.
