I disagree that you have to own the network in order to offer seat-based billing. Before I go into why, can we (imaging industry) please stop referring to Managed Services as MNS? I know this is 3 weeks old but the reason that you can not send through Comcast e-mail server is because they are securing the server. Look in the customers e-mail settings in Outlook to get what you need. It is under Authentication and not all MFD's are capable of this. POP Server: Requires SSL SMTP Server: Requires POP before SMTP, port 465, and authentication of POP before SMTP or just authentication of just he name and password. Hope this helps.

Old Glory, Not sure how long the MF version has been in play. I've only been back in the industry since January and my new dealership already had some PaperCut installations when I arrived. The software does have the behavior modification pop-ups you are referring to, and I'm told specialized scripts can be easily written to force almost any behavior. For instance, during a WebEx last week my PaperCut account rep told my client of a PaperCut installation in which the user set up a rule that...

Thanks for the feedback. We've got a deal similar to what you have that we are working on here as well. I was going over some stuff today that was user comments about e-copy. Something that one user liked was how e-copy could put a copy of the sent document in their Outlook Sent Items folder. With GlobalScan, when you have network authentication turned on, the person who logs in is automatically added in the Send To list. I was told also that a new release of GlobalScan will be coming soon...

We use Telemagic in our office and it seems to do the trick..They have developed a module specificly for our industry and there are a number of management tools that allow you to set up letters, custom letters, email etc that is automated for customer and lead follow up. You can also share a calendar with the rest of your office. My only beef with this is that there is no way to import / export your calendar into or out of outlook with Telemagic. Graham

I am not speak from experience with Verizon mail, but if you have the proper DNS server entries and the smtp server name, should't the MFP reconcile the mail server IP just like Outlook or anyother desktop mail app? Let me know if it works to use the smtp.verizon.net or whatever the correct address is versus the IP address.

Re: How do you manage Letter of Intent dates for your customers?

fisher ·
The only time I send them in is if I am going to switch leasing companies or when it is absolutely necessary. The letter of intent triggers all sorts of monkey business at the leasing companies.....all of which the leasing companies will deny ever happens....even though I've caught them red handed several times. You have to figure out if your leasing company will give you "Penny Quotes". Basically there is a tiny window between when the last payment posts and when the next payment is...

Re: How do you manage Letter of Intent dates for your customers?

montecore ·
The only time a letter of intent is required is if you are moving to a new leasing company and taking out your competitor. If you are the paper holder then no letter of intent is needed as you can upgrade to return or keep and all the transaction is internal with the leasing company. If a letter is needed make sure it is sent in certified to protect the customer. Leasing companies like to play games after they get these letters. They will call the customer and try to convince them to buy the...

When you export from outlook, you can select only the information you want. Such as, “company name, contact name and E-mail address”. This makes it a lot easier importing into the MFP’s address book.

well, you can go to a MS-DOS prompt and type tracert <insert your SMTP server IP address here> This will tell you the name of the server associated with that IP address (assuming you have DNS setup and the server does not block ICMP requests). Technically if the IP address he gave you is actually the correct IP address for his SMTP server, then there is no difference between using the IP and the name (as long as the IP is static). When I'm having trouble getting scan to email to work,...

LinkedIn is becoming the new Facebook. Useless posts by people and political crap all over it. When you do anything business related you are inundated with requests to connect followed 20 seconds later with some sales script about setting up a meeting. I still use it all the time but get annoyed by it daily.

Re: Tell em Columbo Sent You!

Dr. Print ·
I would ask him - Who else are you going to involve in this process. If he mentions the name of the owner’s company, ask how do you know him. You may need to ask a follow up question to get to the owners name. If he does not mention the owners company don’t bring them up, you may end up putting that company in play. You never know how well he knows the controller. I might have 1,000 linked in connections, some of them I may not think of using. That’s my advice

Re: Tell em Columbo Sent You!

TML ·
I agree with dr print. I always ask who my competition is and I know them well enough now to ask which rep it is. I've found lately with one company the owner has been traveling on appointments with a new rep. I've been using this to our advantage as the owner of that company is quiet an aged fellow that knows little about our industry anymore. Find out who your competition is and if that company is listed, ask how they came about selecting them (since you mentioned the incumbent is out).

Re: Tell em Columbo Sent You!

Art, I would not ask that question. They may not be in the deal and you do not need another competitor. I might ask however how important relationships are. That will tell you a lot about him. I also try to see who they do business with to try and connect with someone who I know that might know a c-level person inside your prospect. Just thoughts. If he gave you their lease pricing, he'll give them yours. You were right to hold that back and if price is all important, before I gave him mine, I would ask if all other proposals are in. If yes, then I'd ask, "If my price is best, any reason we couldn't go forward", etc. If price is all important and all prices are in, what else id there to do?
