Like Art, it is rare that a 6700 leaves here without the aftermarket try. Just a heads up on that tray.......if the customer bumps into the tray there is a very good chance that the metal tray will fall on your customer's feet. I had it happen to me. To see what I mean mount the tray on your 6700 and push the tray forward in the center......the two hooks will disengage and the tray will come crashing down. The imagepress is about $25,000 more retail and offers a lot more professional finishing features than the Ricoh. The Canon also has a better reputation in the production printing market. Usually when people look at gear this fast they really pay attention to reliability and quality of build. There is a lot of metal in the Canon, not as much in the KM and mostly plastic in the Ricoh.

In Nova Scotia, Canada we are no longer allowed to dispose of copiers by taking them to the landfill. We must pay a local moving company $30.00 per hour (or send our tech to their premises) to disassemble the copier into it glass, metal, plastic & electronic components. These components are then placed in different bins for recycling. It can take approx two hours. The tech does not have to be delicate in the disassembly so wire cutters, crowbars and sledge hammers are now part of our...

Keith: I may have a few old excel spreadsheets, I will have to look. However, I can explain here and you may be able to create your own spreadsheet. Commercial Press Shops (ones that have union employees) have a tremendous overhead cost when it comes to making a plate for the press. You have to find out what type of plates they are making, whether paper, metel, or poly. The Metal has the highest cost and the paper plate being the least expensive and then the poly in between. The cost for the...

On the StreamPunch Pro, the Cerlox GBC 19 Hole Die set is listed by Ricoh on their price pages as a consumable item. In a Youtube video for the same, these seem to be of metal construction. Do they wear out over time?

Re: GBC ProClick Pronto 3000

The heavy duty die sets are more expensive. The regular die sets are made of white metal. As a by product of the punching process, the die sets get quite hot. The regular die sets expand and begin to lose their shape over time. This is why they need to be replaced every 200-300k punches. It is recommended that a user buys two die sets and exchanging them every second hour if they are doing a lot of punching.

This could be a lot of things associated with the scanner assembly. Usually, its a dirty scanner rod. Clean the rod with alcohol and clean the inside of the metal bearings that the ccd assembly rides on. Do not place lubricant on the scanner rod. It will attract dirt. It also could be aging scanner motor unable to pull the scanning assembly underneath the ADF Also could be defective ribbon cable going bad when fully extended. If above fails replace scanner shaft, scanner motor, ribbon cable,...

Unreal! I had to have this talk with a rep the other day. This girl sees the positive in everything and is about as happy go lucky as anyone I've ever met. She didn't believe me that buyers are liars. She got strung along with a customer that was going to lunch with her, having a glass of wine in the evening with her, all the while telling her she would have an order soon. She stopped by her office and there was a brand new machine sitting there and it had been there for a couple weeks.

To be honest, I don't know the English word for them. What I call a ZnO copier was a machine that used a roll of zink oxide treated paper; this paper had characteristics like a selenium drum, sort of. The copiers using what I call Premix was fx Saxon, instead of metal as carrier it used a fluid (dispersant) and a toner (liquid pigment) It copied on plain paper. The fumes were nice… I hope you get the picture - it's kind of late here! edit: i found this Saxon PPC1 and this ZnO copier (more...

The first Copier that I was trained to repair (in Manhattan) was the 3M Alpha Secretary II. It came with a pair of wooden tongs, and you had to have an empty metal waste basket next to it so when the paper caught fire if it jamed under the toaster unit, you used the wooden tongs to transfer it to the solid metal waste basket where it could burn out "safely". Definitely a pre OSHA device, and these were sold into offices all over NYC.

Well... I've always heard "fast plastic" as a term used to differentiate between a true production machine and simply a fast copier. A true production machine would have some production features such as registration, paper library, image transfer belt, Customer Replaceable Parts, on the fly toner and paper, etc. "Fast Plastic" would not, but all the frames in our "Plastic" copiers are metal and daninsun has pointed out the new Sharps do not.

It was my understanding that the plastic used in the frames for the Sharp systems allowed for the frame to move and not be as ridged as a metal frame. Indeed these type of frames were implemented a few years back. Yes, now that it was mentioned in the above threads, "fast plastic" was used as a derogatory statement for some Production copiers that were not production at all, but was marketed as one. Hence the name of "fast plastic." The new Sharp that Daninsun refers to is the first A3...

Have seen this or something similair I think. Check the plate near the anti static brush just as the paper enters the staple tray. The centre of this guide should be below the height of the rollers. Lift the black guide just before the staple tray where the anti static rollers are and you should see the metal guide which could be bent. You didn't say whether the finisher was new, mine was and was caused during production.

When I put a couple machines into a prison facility for inmates to use, we had to have an enclosure made to do what you are asking. It was fairly inexpensive, talk to one of your local welding/custom metal fab shops, they should be able to make something to block opening the trays and door. Otherwise, you might check with coin-op distributors, some of them offer paper drawer locks. (ie. Jamex, XCP)
