It will be interesting to see what the manufacturers allow and don't allow. As of right now they are still very against e-Commerce and listing things on websites etc. I can only speak for my experience with Canon, Sharp and Brother, but they do not want things done via the web.

In a way its already gone to the internet and away from the outside sales rep........at least for stand alone printers and A4 devices. If all someone needs is a printer or an A4 to be used for basic printing,scanning and copying.....face it, they really don't need us already. If you've been at this a long time you probably remember the days when you sold a lot of A4 machines to small offices. 20 years ago if you needed an A4 you called a copier dealer. Those days are gone for the most part.

@fisher I agree almost completely, but to play devils advocate I will say that we are selling more desktop printers now than we ever have before. Mostly brother, as we became a partner a couple years ago. I think people are looking for reps to show them a better way than just buying another HP off amazon, but the rep still has to have a higher level conversation with the client...not just hey buy your printers from us.

We definitely are not out chasing them but we are much more versed talking about them and the benefits of buying them from us rather than the big box store. It has led to some very nice MPS accounts for us this past year. I don’t have a final count but I believe we added about 3 million new clicks this year from printer sales. Not breaking any records by any means but adding an extra 50k or so of revenue never hurts. And thanks to brother for having a minimum advertised price online for the...

It has to be laser and heavy duty like that Ricoh you’re talking about. Brother has inkjet and Sharp has small stuff. They are expanding the department so volumes will go up. So it has to be heavy duty

We are still a dealer but we have not sold a LEXMARK in quite a while. They eliminated the MPS Elite program we were own, or at the least removed us from that program. I never had anyone ask about the security due to the Chinese ownership but it’s a great point. Honestly, I have found their support, to us at least, to be very subpar. Our support from brother has been phenomenal the last 2 years. Most of my printer clients are replacing the lexmarks with the brothers as fast as they can.

I don't think you're going out on a limb, talk is they want to challenge the likes of Ricoh, Canon, Global and KM for dealers as a sole source line and not a secondary line. Was in Office Max today and saw four new products from Sammy on the low end, what out HP, Brother an Epson!

We faired pretty well in NH, just lost power for 6 hours, but our wood stove kept us warm. My old neighborhood (Gerritsen Beach) Brooklyn was devastated. My brother and my friend tell me that they each had 6 feet+ water in their basements. They say the whole neighborhood is under water. My brother had to wade through chest deep water just to make it home from work. Keep them in your prayers, it will be a while before they return to normal. Vince

This is a strange one. The Kodak imaging line and their software are all high end products (except a couple of products focused on the consumer photo scan area) with a substantial presence in the mid and higher end commercial market. I don't see any fit with Brother as it currently exists. It will be interesting to see what they do with this part of Kodak's product mix. No Dplex printing, no neteork scan, no duplex fax, 166MHZ processor (slow for MS applications), paperport scans are proprietary! Cost per page with out service and parts is .02333 per page. My main problem is that almost ALL my competition is now allowed to sell their product (Xerox & Oce are the main ones) and MY 240w product. I could understand if it increased market share for the Ricoh, but it doesn't. The only one that loses is me because now I have to go down on price while the competition is fumbling around telling them all wrong information (like that you can just use your current desktop for the print server). Isn't this kind of old news? Both Ricoh and Brother (and Riso) have hi-speed inkjet, at least as prototypes. I think it is a matter of very little time before everybody sells this kind of technology.

We have the Savin version in our showroom. Looks good. Same as the Savin 3815 fax, but has a platen also. Smells a little like a Samsung or Brother but documentation indicates its a Ricoh OEM. Feeder seems more reliable than the Savin AC205. A good tool to compete against the big box office supply chains and catalogue companies. Fits many needs, small laser printer, fax machine, convenience copier. With the price being so low any company can afford one. I guess the real question would be how...

This is funny, because the article makes no mention that Brother devices have some of the highest cost per page costs, along with consumables that have a hard time delivering yields. More importantly, is it not right to talk at the centralized MFP? Should we all just sit at our desks for four hours at a clip. Medical reports now seem to indicate that sitting is one of the worst things you can do for extended amounts of time.

I believe Xerox first started airing the Xerox "Brother Domenic" commercials in 1977. I though the first one may have been aired with the 1977 SuperBowl, anyhow, I distinctly remember those Xerox commercials and would have thought that a mere three years later I would get my start in the copier industry! Here are more pics of the Epson MFP's. I think there is a niche for this but I am not sure we will go down this road or not. We are looking at their large format as everyone and their brother carries Canon Wide Format in our market now. The machine does have meters to write service contracts with it which is interesting to me for an ink machine.

We are not selling it now. We are probably going to take on their wide format line since everyone and their brother has access to canon wide format. I ran some fairly large jobs 100-300 sheets at a time and the machine started printing out half pages, blank pages, and smeared pages. It definitely is geared toward the one man office and we have Lexmark and Samsung for that.
