Well, rolled the copier gurney into the back of the car. Pulled out and into traffic, stopped at the light, and being young and foolish, I gunned the gas pedal with the green light. The car went forward the copier gurney and copier wne backwards and landed on the street, seems like I forgot to close the hatch!! It was a...

Here's one from a private school customer of mine a few years ago: We had just upgraded their fleet of Gestetner 3355's to a brand new fleet of Gestetner DSm660's. A teacher wanted to make copies of a book onto transparencies, and walked up to one of the new machines and ran them thru the bypass. The machine jammed up and completely stopped. So, thinking there must be something wrong w/ the set up of the new machine, she walked to another one of the BRAND NEW MACHINES and tried to run...

Additionally, there are currently 9 other entities (including RBS & IKON) in the...

Re: Ricoh Ikon Letter
I think we make an error when we assume that Ricoh selling a machine to an end user for $8k is the same as Ricoh selling a machine to a dealer for $8k. When Ricoh sells a machine to a dealer for $8k they are done, when Ricoh sells a machine to an end user for $8k they have other costs, including paying the street rep and his manager so I don't think it is not true to say the $8k is the same to Ricoh from either source.

Some great points in this thread. In the end all of the main copier products do the same thing...they put toner on the paper, fuse it and offer a collection of ancillary tools which in many cases are more important (like scanning) than the copy function anymore. Someone said earlier it was the whole package that the client wants to buy...they get impacted from everyone in your dealership, admin, billing, shipping, support, sales and yeh your suppliers too. Just looking for the dollar amounts. Got em now, thanks. Ricoh increases MSRP with every new generation, so maybe this one is justified with the new standard security features. In the end, the new model's 8-10% higher prices will be more like 2-3 on the street level.

Word on 'The Street' says that Global Imaging Systems, owned by XEROX, has hired Mike Pietrunti. Mike knew to abandon ship at Kyocera MITA and has landed at a very sound company, with Global. He will be far better off than landing at Ricoh and helping them transition to a strictly Direct operation, or helping SHARP manage their MFP business into extinction. Both Global and Mike Pietrunti made a good move.

I haven't looked at it yet, but through the Lexmark BSD program, the street CPP is $.020-$.023. This is a great little unit that is capable of running 10k/month. The only drawback is the somewhat high CPP, but it's in line with the comparable Ricoh OEM model that is slow and lacks a touch screen.

Re: Ricoh Dealership in Minnesota will buy.......
This will be interesting to see if this is a continued model. Is Ricoh looking to have the dealer channel target the down the street business and have the direct side target verticals, major and national accounts?
Reply
Re: Ricoh Dealership in Minnesota will buy.......
If this is the strategy I am sure they have run the numbers. However, I would think that the down the street business is more profitable on the service side than the major and national accounts. The large accounts represent high revenues, but usually very tight service margins when compared to down the street business. I wondeer if overall profitability would suffer if they move all the down the street business to the dealer channel?
