Selling Copiers in the Eighties with Roland Tolan
Roland and I found each other about 6 weeks ago on Linkedin. Seems Roland and I have a similar background with selling copiers. We both started in the eighties. While I was on the East Coast and Roland was on the West Coast. We've never met but hoping our paths will cross soon! How did you find your way into the copier industry? In 1985, I was 23 years old. l was ready to join the sheriffs department in Los Angeles CA., my mom begged me not to do it. A friend of mine was a salesman at small...

Finally! A decent day and some movement on some accounts. It's been a six week drought with a few small deals here and there. This Week in the Copier Industry 15 Years Ago (Last Week of February 2005)
Why would this week be different than the rest of the weeks in February? Since I depleted by pipeline at the end of the year it's been quite the struggle to rebuild. Thus I'm no where near where I need to be with February coming to an end on Monday for me. To make matters worse I'm off to Aruba the first week of March for our Presidents Club Trip. I was able to add a couple of large opportunities this week, one for MNS and the other for 30 plus devices. At this time both are March or April...

COVID19 "Remote Working" Day Forty-Two of Sales
This will probably be one of those shorter blogs tonight, however you never know once I start writing. A few minutes ago (it's 10PM) I just set an appointment for this Friday with a net new production prospect. I had emailed him earlier in the day and a few minutes ago I received the reply that yes Friday at 10AM works. Let me touch on the email a bit. The subject line was "hope you are well" and the base of the email spoke more about new 5th station color technology that could increase...

My Corona Tales from Today
Yes, I went to the office today. Yes, traffic was light when it's normally jammed. Cell phone disruptions were common today with many "failed calls" in or out. Thinking that's due to the higher band width usage with many peeps using phones for hot spots or just on social media. Emails from clients after sending on-line meeting requests is low, emails from a few clients stating they are not taking ANY visitors. I had four appointments on tap for this week, two cancelled altogether, two...

Thanks for the input. Sounds like you were rocking the house in the 1st Q. Great Job! We have a contest from Oct-Dec 2012 for most MFP placed and I came it 1st with 174 and was one of a handful that won an IPad. Then at the end of 1st Q 2013 I also won a IPad mini. Soon will be leaving for Puerto Rico for Presidents Club. What they did is added the value of the IPads to payroll then the rep had to go out an purchase. Do you agree that the rep should pay sales tax? Really that would be double...

Re: Monthly Quotas
We used to have a Revenue & GP quota, but the GP quota only mattered when it came to making the annual President's Club Trip. I even remember getting written up one month when I was only at 50% of quota but sold more than the GP target, because I only sold refurbished machines that month. Over the past 3 or 4 years, GP has rarely been mentioned.

Re: Golf Help!!
Art - Orlimar makes great "fairway woods". Normally a fairway wood isn't a driver (which is your #1 wood). If you don't play much, I would suggest getting a nice 3 wood to hit off the tees. Normally a 3 wood, because it's more lofted face, will allow a duffer (like myself) a little more room for error. Normal 1 woods (drivers) don't allow much room for error and are difficult to obtain loft and straightness. I would also suggest getting a firm steel shafted club. Don't get graphite because...

Make sure that once you have developed a list of attendees that have said they are going to attend on the first call to them you: Call them a day or two before the event and confirm their attendence. Tie in the fact that their lunch or plate for the event has been ordered and we were simply getting a final head count and looking forward to their participation. You are really going to feel the event was time well spent or something like that. Whatever it is CALL them the day or two before, it...

We don't have bonus plans either. This year at our Christmas party several received bonuses for outstand jobs but that was the first time in many years that has happened.
