they are typically user customized in the application. For example a law firm printing to an HP 4000, when they print a letter it's always in dup or triplicatel; right? So the program is set up when they select to print, a letter that they get: 1. a print on letterhead 2. a print on plain paper 3. a print on colored paper 4. an evnelope. I always run into this when replacing printers, because it never is configured to do the same thing, and i have like 30 legal secretaries wanting to kill...

Good suggestion but expensive for a 20 copier install. ShareScan is a hardware add on level of technology to support and maintain that I was hoping to avoid. I was looking at eCopy Paperworks but this law firm has approx. 500 PCs. At around $180.00 per workstation this gets very expensive. Plus I am unsure if the law firm would move away from Adobe PDF. I think it is obvious what you do with people who don't want to work. It is just as obvious what to do with people who DO want to work! Incentives can be a great way to move a product or idea, but dis-incentives are more personal and can be very disruptive for that individual (ie: income tax, sales activity micromanagement). However, the vast majority of copiers will have little or nothing of value and it'd take me a significant amount of time to determine if the copier had anything worth taking. It is sort of a scam....sort of. But not really a scam per se'. It's a real law firm. It's a real patent. And it's a real threatening letter. More of a cross between extortion and ambulance chasing. So what do you do when your client calls you about this since you sold them them the copier.

Canon has sent a letter to their dealers asking us to have any of our Canon customers who receive this type of letter to forward them to Canon legal dept. and they will address the issue with the law firm who sent the letter. The other thing to look at is the E-Cabinet solution. If your customer has the resourses for something like that it is a good solution for a mid size firm. Thanks very much for the advice from all who responded to my call for help - the law firm is behaving as if the 1060's advantages are not important as they do not do much in the way of two sided, 5 cpm more is not that much faster, the doc server won't be used, etc. The Minolta is sort of like a 1055 with scanning would be and is leaving me with a price disadvantage. Still looking for the silver bullet to do it in! Will let you know how it turns out.

The silver bullet me be the new gWare Software that Ricoh is about to launch. gWare in conjuction with PCSM not only allows the law firm to track all prints but allows copies also to be tracked by a central print server and apply a cost factor to the copies/prints for billing purposes. We installed PD 5 in a law firm with an MPC6000. It installed well, took some tweaking (as I understand) to work with their software and accounting system as it is ProLaw and does not have tab delimited nor CSV. We just printed the customer list,scanned it in, and converted to an excel file and gave it back to get it into the system. I had great success with the Proclick also, not that I sold a lot of them, however all are still running and customers are happy with the performance. The law firm is already billing for the labor with one or both of the solutions they will still save time and increase profit or decrease costs/

I finally one this deal at a law firm replacing 2x Ricoh with GBC StreamPunch in line with 2x Toshiba and 1x off line GBC MagnaPunch Pro and an electric cerlox binding machine My proposed solution was $61k less expensive over five years. The Managing Partner at the law firm asked all 12 staff to vote for their preference. All 12 voted Ricoh. Needless to say, the staff does not pay the bills.

I recently lost to KIP because OUR system would not respect pen settings for shading. On a gray scale generated out of an AutoCAD color wheel they wanted to match shade 255, which is a very light shade of gray to represent hardscape....and we could not even get close. The 5100en just plotted a dark gray. This was specifically using HDI drivers (which was the firms preference due to quqlity expectations)....PCL and Postscript worked fine, but with those we lost a lot of quality control. This...

The only time I ever heard of a law firm changing a document was to avoid retyping it. That is something that’s already a hard copy. For this all you need is an OCR software. Once this is done, it can transfer to almost any application (word, excel, power point…)

Why not just use LAN fax for all outbound documents? You could incorporate ecabinet 1000, for the price it's not a bad solution.
