Re: 57 Days of Selling "Day 44"
Love it Art! I had a day of running around with a networking luncheon followed by a training for a new device that I sold earlier in the month and stole from Sharp. I was extremely late to the party with this deal but they already had a canon that was very old and decided they wanted another canon and on top of that wanted someone to deal with local over Sharp and Ricoh direct. Then I was walking into the grocery store on the way home and got a call from a person I quoted a machine to about...

Maven , What I tell my customers and when I'm out with sales reps is it's all about getting things done in less steps. I'm in the legal vertical so time is money and everyone has an hourly billable. Right now here's the average user scan: 1.) User walks up to MFP and logs in 2.) Finds their name via LDAP or enters manually and then enters client and matter 3.) Selects Scan to email 4.) Sends PDF to their email 5.) Walks back to their desk 6.) Finds Canon Scan 00034789* (or doesn't because...

Re: e-STUDIO 306LP Question
The e306LP offers a colour scanner. The scans can be either blue or black based upon your selection.

Re: e-STUDIO 306LP Question
That's good right? I was just curious if when scanning the blue the scanned documents would be very light even if you were scanning with the black mode.

Re: e-STUDIO 306LP Question
Images are dark and fully formed assuming black is selected as your scan setting.

Re: e-STUDIO 306LP Question
While the e306LP is an innovative product it is unlikely to displace any colour unit sales. As colour is more than half of what I sell, this leaves this product with a declining mono colour market to appeal to. The RD30 recycle unit makes the price of the solution much more than an equivalent eStudio 306. The e306LP does not have a stapling option. I find that most customers are interested in the ideas of ecology with their copiers but they are not willing to pay a premium for it.

Another thing all of these new machines including the 6502 and 8100 have is an insanely fast ADF, 120 sheets per minute or 240 images per minute duplex. Everyone that sees these comments how fast the ADF is.

same here, equally as impressive is that it will scan to USB just as fast. Customer wanted to take the scanned files back to the office after the demo to make sure they were searchable and check the quality

Re: What's the application that will cause Capture to really grow in the MFP space
Geeesh, you ask a great question! I really not sure if there is an answer for that. All of my accounts scan whether it's scan2email or scan2folder. Most are then moving those documents to a place on the server or another pc where they are stored in a windows alpha tree folder structure. When I speak about entering meta data at the copier, so that they can perform a better search, it seems to have turned them off. Many users feel that they can find the documents that they've scanned and don't...

Re: What's the application that will cause Capture to really grow in the MFP space
So, you mentioned features...maybe the ability to just scan the document into a single repository while entering no meta data, no barcodes, and then the ability to find that document. I know it sounds kinda crazy but wouldn't that be the holy grail?

Re: What's the application that will cause Capture to really grow in the MFP space
Art: I certainly agree based on my past experience, people don't want to spend a lot of time typing information at the control panel. And I think I agree for some applications, having "auto-sorting" is the ideal. But does anyone see the need for scanning and pulling data into an application for analysis not just indexing?

Re: What's the application that will cause Capture to really grow in the MFP space
I actually have that application for two current prospects and even though both will benefit from the improved workflow, one is stalled and the other is scheduled for Feb time line. On the application that is stalled we need to extract data from a form and populate the data in another format, the ideal format would be excel, however my support people are suggested MS365, and that's where the deal has stalled and I guess it's stalled because the solution would not be one that generates a lot...

Re: What's the application that will cause Capture to really grow in the MFP space
Well we might be able to make these sort of applications easier for you. We have a tool that automatically identies what type of form is being scanned and can store it automatically based on rules. We also can automatically extract data and then pass it along to a destination app like Excel, MS 365, Oracle or something else.

Re: What's the application that will cause Capture to really grow in the MFP space
End users will not embrace a solution that asks them to enter all the meta data themselves nor should they. It is simply not productive. In a busy environment you cannot have people fumbling with a virtual keyboard to input data for a scan job while the line behind them grows. This is where software comes into play which will "read" the scanned image and capture relevant metadata to attach to the document for indexing in the DMS. Relieving the user of this burden and getting the most...

Re: Can I Copy Mixed Sized Documents on a Copier?
I disagree. Most law firms and many insurance companies still have a commonly re-ocurring need for mixed size originals. I am currently working with one European shipping company based in NA that wants to do do mixed size originals with a mix of A3 and A4 documents. I say it cannot be done as the paper is all of different widths. I am hoping that my unscrupoulous competitive vendors will admit to the same..... not likely!!! They want the sale today! Please advise.

Re: Can I Copy Mixed Sized Documents on a Copier?
A3 (11 x 17) and A4 (8 1/2 x 11) can be run at the same time with auto paper select making what you put in what you get out using mixed-originals and the mixed originals setting. The sizes you mention are European, but I'm sure they will work. As long as it's a standard document size it should work.

Re: Can I Copy Mixed Sized Documents on a Copier?
Sorry, I meant to say a mix of A4 and Legal size documents. I agree most copiers should be able to do mixed size originals with a combo of A3/A4 and Letter-R/Legal. The problem I am having and I do not think it can be done is one of a mix of A4 and legal mixing North American and European sized paper in the same document. This is because the two paper sizes are of different widths.

Re: Ricoh Distributed Scan Management with new 03 series
DSM will let you centrally manage scan buttons on an mfp (that supports DSM) to a folder, email, or SharePoint from a Windows 2008 R2 Server. Access to the buttons is controlled with AD. No OCR functionality but it is now an option on the mfp itself. No more individual address books to worry about. Ricoh announced support back in 2010 but unfortunately very few models have it.

Re: Can a Digital Copier Scan to Dropbox?
Great Post Art. Xerox have a DropBox app available for their new ConnectKey devices but the user has to buy a scanpack which cover X number of scans and has a 12 month shelf-life. The advantages of having it on the MFD as an App is that any user (e.g. at a college) can log in to their DropBox account and print or scan to / from their own account securely. We've been doing the same as you and circumventing the charge or need for an app by pointing the scan to a DropBox folder on a desktop.

Re: 8 Talking Points for Selecting an Imaging/Copier Vendor
Art Some very good points here, for both a buyer and seller. So often a seller is focused on one aspect of the deal with others being and economic time bomb. I think offering the professional "bowing out" of a price deal is necessary to consider, as just when you think prices couldn't get lower, they do. Taking an approach towards a true, mutually beneficial deal will either get appreciated, or get your on your way towards finding one.

We got the pre launch info yesterday, brochures haven't been posted to dealersource yet. From the launch letter it appears that print/copy is only through the bypass for 11 x 17. This is a great device for that customer who only needs A3 infrequently but now doesn't need an A3 machine.

Re: Ricoh MP 305SP & MP 305SPF "Coming to America"
Yup, you are correct with the 11x17 print & copy through the by-pass, but don't think that will be a deal breaker for most clients. Ty for the comment!

It won't be for the low volume customer who doesn't need a full A3 system like the MP 3054. I haven't compared this with the 2501 yet, it has it's own limitations.

Re: Ricoh MP 305SP & MP 305SPF "Coming to America"
perfect system for AEC market, that needs low volume 3-6K per month with the need to print & scan occasional 11x17, and also has a space issue.

Re: Ten Things You Need to Know Before You Lease or Buy a Ricoh MP 501SP or MP 601SP
I suggest calling your local Ricoh Dealer (not direct), because dealers can offer better service, better support and they support your local economy. I am sure that varies with location.

Re: Scan to Google Drive
You should be able to set it up as a direct scan to folder. Just put in the path to shared google drive folder that is located on a pc. You can then scan to that folder only. Using ICE you would be able to see all of the folders that are in Google Drive.
Reply
Re: Scan to Google Drive
Art is correct. Like Dropbox or OneDrive, you can scan to a folder in the user directory that is linked to the cloud account. ICE allows you to scan to the cloud without having the PC in the middle and allows users to have access to any cloud account, not just the one on a PC. The workaround described would require the cloud app folder to be installed on the PC therefore any user would need to have a PC with said cloud app running on it.
