Re: Desktop Shortcut to Scanned Images via store to HDD in scanner

Its pretty strait forward. Default the scanner to Store File to HDD. At the PC create a desktop shortcut to Web Image Monitor. Have customer click on Print Job/Store File -------> Document server. They will be able to download the document. The real problem though is you are encountering a lazy IT guy. Any IT guy worth his salt will help you set up scan to folder.

So some clarification first. PaperCut absolutely does support Mac. In fact, it is the only cost recovery/print control solution that I know of that actually installs in an all Mac environment. (Server and Client) It also is the only solution I know of that installs in a Linux environment. So both of your issues are solved with PaperCut. I included the install guides for Mac and Linux to get you started.

HotSpot printers allow you to print from anything that has email access including iPhones or BlackBerries. You don't need drivers and you don't need to be on the network. Ouch, that's a tough one. If it's really a proprietary system, there's probably no chance of a converter being available. What's the actual file format? Does it save in an an autocad format? or HPGL? Secondly, why do you need it to be PDF? If it's for printing to a ricoh wide format, could they use a PDF print driver to drop the file into a folder for the Rioch to grab it from?

Jason -- no the goal it to print a version of an 11 x 17 drawing and scale down to a letter size document. My PCL and PS3 driver is not reading the lines on the drawing as an image. I posted for a colleague so who just joined so I am not sure of the file format, nor am I familiar w/ this application. 2nd part yes -- they could do that -- that was a quick work around that we did - but was unhappy with the amount of clicks that it had to go through. They have a CANON that does it no problem.

Hey all. I am one of the support reps from Ricoh for PPDM. The product is FABULOUS. The roll out has just started in the field, really, and we are learning the product. The only real problem we have been having is with the server. Those have been IIS issues, not PPDM issues. Also, watch for firewall conflicts. The product allows for BATES stamps, scan to almost anything, and 99% OCR. Once it is up, it appears highly stable. If it crashes, removal can be tricky, but we have a fix for that.

Re: Who really needs 250 GB in a Konica Minolta Hard Drive!

Almost no idea what you are talking about. In my experience, people who have workflows that would benefit from storing images to the copier also need a Fiery controller. In those types of worflows with high-res color images, its quite easy to wind up with very large files. I've seen files stored on the Fiery that were more than 1GB for a single file. So, in those specific types of workflow, yes, a larger hard drive is not only useful but necessary. For general office work, there is generally...

High Compression PDF (“JPEG 2000”): Reduces data capacity, while retaining image quality when color documents are scanned. When using the Ricoh High Compression PDF, the document is divided into the part of the character which is compressed by MMR and the part of the photograph which is compressed by JPEG. This results in the image becoming clearer and the capacity being reduced to a smaller file size.

I did the 48 minute bit and picked up a few tips, however I still have one additional question. Can a user scan directly to thier server folders or does the file go to the clients PPDM and then reside in a folder to be later moved to the server. I'm thinking no but I just have to ask, and another question is when scanning to the server, would I need one or two licenses? Thanx in advance!

Re: What is pdf/a?

that is correct. The idea if to create a format that can outlast the programs that made it. There is a fear that existing file formats would become unreadable as the pace of technology leaves them behind. The PDF/A is supposed to be application independant.

Basically your phone is sending the file to a PC or server that is running google chrome and is signed into your google account. You'd need to install and set up chrome on said PC/server as well as the cloud printing service and then download a. Cloud print app on your phone or tablet. You open the app and choose a file to print.

Re: scanning using auto color select

JasonR ·
I've seen that on Ricoh and Canon products. So I think it's a problem with Acrobat more than the MFP. The issue is that the file is tagged as a "color" document so the MFP prints it as a color document. We tell our customers that when you print, the only way to be sure to get charged for a B&W print is to select B&W in the driver.

Re: Color Print Control

JasonR ·
It certainly caused a rather heated conversation between me and one of my customers before we found out about it. In that case, it was really hard to say whose fault the problem was. The MFP was just clicking as it was instructed from the application, but the application was just doing what the file told it to and the file had been made by the MFP. We just agreed to a credit (since they hadn't used color toner in making the print) and changed their drivers back to defaulting to black.
