Re: Copier Parts & Accessories China Tariff Starts in 9 Working Days
In a hint at what is to soon happen with tariffs on copiers/ printers from China headed to the USA, Harley Davidson Motorcycles announced today that it would shift some production headed for Europe to other global manufacturing facilities to avoid paying tariffs estimated at up to $2,200.00 per bike. It could take nine to 18 months to make this change. It also said that it would not increase prices to European dealers and would take a hit to profitability for the remainder of this year at...

So some clarification first. PaperCut absolutely does support Mac. In fact, it is the only cost recovery/print control solution that I know of that actually installs in an all Mac environment. (Server and Client) It also is the only solution I know of that installs in a Linux environment. So both of your issues are solved with PaperCut. I included the install guides for Mac and Linux to get you started.

Unless China makes serious trade concessions to the USA, without retaliatory tariffs of its own on USA made goods sold in China, the 10% tariff will rise to 25% on Jan 01 2019. Yup, it's a pretty BIG Hammer! I heard a radio report that the US trade debt rose significantly in July. I'm thinking what you stated is that "many of the manufacturers have stuffed thier warehouses". That's probably why we haven't seen anything to date with increases.

doesnt the sharp frontier series have color cpp right now that is close to a3 color? Seems to me like they're innovating faster and getting new features to market first and getting a share of the margins that come with that. I was really happy when c2050/2550 came to market and we had an edge for a moment, but think about it: print from smart card, free sharp desk seat, a4 color, segment 3's with single pass duplex scanning, pull out usb keyboard... Seems Ricoh, Canon and Xerox may be the last of the holdouts. When speaking with a rep at Ricoh they were concerned that A4 devices will lower profit (image that, they do make a profit on a box)expectations especially if A4 takes off. With the presence of Sharp, Samsung and KonicaMInolta they needed to make the move. Keep in mind though that neither KM, nor Sharp has come out with an robust A4 monochrome (don't know what they are waiting for here), remember I stated robust A4, something along...

My guess was simplex vs duplex but the correct answer is opposite of that. SPDF stands for Single Pass Duplexing Feeder and DPDF I assume stands for Dual Pass Duplexing Feeder. I found the answer in the Lanier FAQ's: The LD645C and LD655C will be made available with a 100-sheet Single Pass Duplexing Feeder (SPDF) for copy/scan-intensive environments. When configured with the SPDF, these models are known as the LD645CA and LD655CA. Target launch Q1 2011. All other areas of functionality are ...

I have probably done each of these options at some point in time...well except the quote at retail. I wouldn't want the perception to be that we had outrageous pricing. If the machine was entry level with a company that had little additional potential, I would respond with something like "a Doctor who prescribes without seeing the patient would lose his license and you take your job just as seriously." If it is a business that I would like to penetrate I would low-ball it and include nothing...

Re: Billing For Banner Length Prints
My understanding is that the MFP "clicks" every time it measures X length (based on single/double click) pass the registration roller. That being the case, the banner would charge for whatever length passes, so (assuming single click 11x17) if you print a 34" banner, the MFP will click 2 times. Interestingly, if you print a 42 inch banner, the meter should click 2.47 times. Those fractions aren't visible, but the technician I spoke with assured me the machine remembers them and adds them up...

I have been very successful with productivity chart comparisons when up against the competition with the same engine speed. By dropping down, you may be able to justify the 1045, and it may not be that much of a difference. For example, look for user walk up for single copies,...

Re: 400 DPI IMAGE MOVEMENT!!!
I don't know how much you have worked with these but some things to keep in mind with dig. dups...The print will move some on every sheet and every pass. It just isn't noticed with a single color or on the first pass. Therefore, on a two-color of red and black for instance, the black has moved alittle "+" on some sheets and alittle "-" on others as did the red on the second pass. The problems come in on those sheets where the black went alittle "+" on the same sheet where the red went...

Re: 400 DPI IMAGE MOVEMENT!!!
We must not forget the Riso V8000 2-color single-pass system. I also can't speak for registration variance Riso vs Ricoh nor TC-II vs. 2 passes. I'm mearly suggesting that it makes for a compelling argument...whether it actually holds water, I don't know. Riso quotes a +or- one millimeter as an "acceptible variance on their current product line not counting the V8000. I don't sell the Ricoh nor do I compete against it so I can't speak to the registration or lack thereof.

Re: 400 DPI IMAGE MOVEMENT!!!
I thought that 1 mm would be acceptable as well. I think that it is hard to compete trying to sell a dup and a tc11 when there is competitive 1 pass system that will lay two colors well and consistently. I wonder if, in the long term, the RICOH will stay consistent with a certain margin on movment, and the riso will start going all over the place. That I do not know, but that is the argument my higher ups are sticking to. I appreciate everyones input. Thanks again, Brian
