It's so simple, i don't understand why people don't do it. I guess sometimes things are so simple it's not thought of or it is so simple people make it hard.

Art, I loved this column, especially the lead- in history of your start as a technician. That was me in 1978-79. I worked for a Canon subsidiary in Union NJ as a tech. Just moved here from Ohio. My service manager told the owner after a year " he is a passable tech but he keeps losing his tools". It was a sign from God, I guess. Good luck on your quest. Art, I worked for Office Products & Systems, a Canon subsidiary located on Vauxhall Rd in Union and then we moved to Mountainside. They were taken over by the New York subsidiary. How are sales for December 2019?
I haven't seen a December this busy in years! Don't want to jix it, but I should be writing my 15th order of the month tomorrow and still have 5 more that could close by the end of our month which is the 26th. Considering that there are 22 selling days this month, I kinda have a chance of almost writing an order a day. In addition we have at least five reps that have closed $100k in revenue. Would love to hear from others how is everyone doing for December?

Re: Twelve Days of Selling "Day One"
Art, First great year, month and quarter! Even after your time in industry it always has to feel good to close out as strongly as you did! I'm a sales manager and have been using your twelve days of selling emails as an example for my sales team. In particular a new rep who's been selling for less than a year really loves these emails. I also have a rep on my team that's been in industry close to 30 years and these emails have helped reinvigorate him. Essentially your emails are the same...

What Makes December One of My Best Sales Months for Revenue
This is so simple it pains me to write it! The last paid quarter bonus for the year and before the Holidays for me takes place in October. Thus I'm doing more prospecting in the months of July, August, September and October. Much of this activity will roll and become orders in October, November and December.

57 Days of Selling "Day 36"
Today is Sunday the 27th of November. Tis the end of the re-heated Turkey dinner, the last of the Turkey and stuffing sandwiches, and yesterday was finale with Turkey Soup (pretty much all of the leftovers go in the pot). Adios Thanksgiving, it was a wonderful four day reprieve from work. But not such much for gathering the 32 boxes of Christmas decorations and working with the wife to decorate the homestead. Next weekend it's more of the same with my chore of getting the outside decorations...

57 Days of Selling "Day 43"
Fourteen days left, and yes, I'm starting to feel a little bit of pressure now. I have only one large opportunity that I have a chance of closing for December. That opp is for $48-$50K, if I can nail that down, the rest of the year should be a breeze. If I can't get that opp to close, I'll then have to figure out a plan to piece meal the rest together. If the piece meal bit comes to fruition, I'm thinking I may have to write 12-15 orders for the month. Egads! That will not be an easy task.

57 Days of Selling "Day 33"
It's Friday!! Even better, it's the Friday before Thanksgiving! Since I closed a decent order yesterday, my goal for today was to "wait for the ball to come to me". That's a term that I use to sit back and see what develops with the existing opportunities that I have working. It does not mean that I would stop prospecting. First order of the day was to process the order I received yesterday that had each device going to different locations. The next order was to update all of my...

I stated, "No", the other two blog series ( 12 Days of Selling, 57 Days of Selling ) wore my sorry ass out and I'm no spring chicken anymore! Art, we've seen some scuttle lately about maintenance agreement increases. As usual, the account is reviewed annually with some kind of increase if the clicks weren't locked in. This customer contacted me because they're clicks went from $.01 to $.011 and with their volume, equated to an $8 a month increase on just one unit. This was the 5th or 6th customer with older gear that has made comment about it in the last few months. Always a fun conversation to have, but most definitely an...

We just cancel them. We give plenty of advanced warning. First, sales reps are tasked with informing them what it means when parts are no longer guaranteed available and they try to get the upgrade. Then, 6 months to a year later they inform that a cancellation letter is forthcoming. We make sure that they know that it does not mean we will not provide service, it will just be on a time and parts basis now. Mr. Customer, "It would actually be disengenous of us to continue to take your money...

Re: 57 Days of Selling "Day 33"
Year ago we never included consumables with the maintenance agreement. You were offer a labor and parts agreement or labor only agreement. You're testing my memory , and I'm losing, can't remember how we priced those up. I do remember that the rule of thumb for labor only was to charge 10% of the MSRP. Thus, if the equipment had a $9,000 MSRP, the cost of the agreement (labor) would be $900. Sorry, I can't give you more detail.

Fantastic are the ones that call me New Year's Eve about 5:00 and say I'll sign the order of you come and get it today so I can take advantage of the tax benefits. I've had a customer call me to discuss a deal at 10:00pm on New Year's Eve to finalize and send him the paperwork. COVID19 Remote Working Day One Hundred and Seventy-Six of Selling
Today is 176 business days since I was optioned to working remote. Those 176 business days now totals eight full months that I've been in some sort of lockdown.
