Re: Pre-Configured MFPs
I wouldn't know, either we don't have access them or they are just available for Direct. It's been my belief that it's just a marketing ploy and all of the systems in the signature series still have to be configured. I could be wrong. Can anyone else chime in? How about some of you from the Direct side!

Re: Will outside Sales Rep's go away?
In a way its already gone to the internet and away from the outside sales rep........at least for stand alone printers and A4 devices. If all someone needs is a printer or an A4 to be used for basic printing, scanning and copying.....face it, they really don't need us already. If you've been at this a long time you probably remember the days when you sold a lot of A4 machines to small offices. 20 years ago if you needed an A4 you called a copier dealer. Those days are gone for the most part.

I’m a little late to this party but had the thread open since it was posted. As a 35 year old i straddle the “millennial” and old school gap (in my opinion haha). There is value of ordering things online that can be commonly used or even basic electronics. But if it’s anything above basic, I still believe talking to someone even if on the phone, pays dividends. We recently bought a new vehicle for my wife and explored for weeks online our options, the new vehicles options, what the price...

Re: When is Net New Business not Net New Business?
Interesting perspective. We constantly have the talks about competitive machines we took on service, especially brands we don't carry. I tend to consider is taking a Konica on service and then a year or two later upgrading it to our equipment net new business from the sales side. Obviously we had net new business on the service side but not net new for "x" with the equipment sale. I'd be interested to hear how others see this. Yes I have sold a couple of these. For the price these are fantastic. My service manager is impressed which is hard to do. Dual side scanning is a definite selling point. The cost per page is going to be higher of course. I would say in the .015 black and white and .11 color to be safe (depending on your market of course). Not as good as say the 6535 per say but the machine is less than half the cost. If the run more than a couple thousand a month I would move them up to the 6535cidn. Let me...

Re: Xerox explores sale of leasing finance unit: sources
Oce did that 10 years ago and went bust. They didn't realise how much they relied on the monthly rental income and how inflexible third party leasing companies are when you want to upgrade mid term. The financing arm is usually the most profitable side of the business. High interest rate to customers, low rates for them and if the customer goes bust you generally get you equipment back and at the end of the contract you get your gear back.

when you load the bypass tray it will auto recognize the paper in a pop-up menu, and if you look closely there is a section near the bottom where it shows what a media is defaulted and a button that says “change “. This is where you would program in the media wait. I believe it would be heavy six, if you hit the details button on that screen you will see it by GSM The varnish would be questionable. The revenue model can not possibly be profitable for 80% of your customers. Ridiculously low is exactly that, ridiculous and unsustainable. $500 worth of technical support will be used up mighty...

Vista Home is not scan friendly because the permissions are so hard to find. But it can be done. If you decide to go to the dark side (Mac) it supports SMB (scan to folder) also.

Several years back we had a demo in a pastor's home office for a couple of days when he called in because the machine was misfeeding. We had been selling him on the reliability of this model, so he wasn't very pleased with the performance. When our technician went out he opened the side of the copier and found that one of the Pastor's kids poured cornflakes into the copier. We got it cleaned up and he bought the demo.

The ultimate goal is to “place the box” Ricoh USA makes their overhead by the profit on the box moving it to the Dealer and other channels. A couple of thoughts based on my lengthy experience with both Sharp and Ricoh. Ricoh is far and away a better product. No doubt about it. As stated above buyers buy the dealership and the relationship with the sales rep in my experience not the brand name on the front of the box. Finally, in this market I would urge extreme caution making any sort of...

Re: JOINT STATEMENT BY SHARP ELECTRONICS CORPORATION AND EDWARD MCLAUGHLIN
Braxtoq, I think that the larger point is that the GUI is irrelevant. We (who have been in the industry for a while) can remember selling 75 and 85 ppm machines for $40 - $50k. Now they are talking about 75 and 85 ppm A4 machines for under $10k. The question is how you make up the revenue, and that has to be on services - and Sharp is not well positioned due to their thin direct side. Also, since they are print copy oriented (I don't think that they really make money on scanning), they are...

Re: Green not printing correctly on Ricoh MPC4500
John, There is a simple test to figure out if it is the MFD or the Print driver. Put an original on the glass and make a copy of an original that has the correct color green. If it copies OK the copier is OK, and you need to focus on the print controller or print driver. If it copies and the green is bad on the copy then focus on the Copier. If the copier is off on the color you won't get it right on the driver. You need a break fix tech to adjust or fix the copier. as a side note remember...

Let's wait to see if these may be the best of both worlds. Comparing Ricoh to Canon, both of them are taking their first crack at monochrome A4 MFPs, so while they are competing against one another, they're primarily competing against perception that existing users of products from HP, Lexmark, Samsung & Xerox. From the TCO perspective, these should still blow HP's M4555 out of the water, at least as long as customers are buying OEM cartridges. Ricoh's A4 products will be great for Ricoh...

There is no way to put this on a cabinet and protect against it tipping over which of course, Ricoh would be liable for. However, if the dealer community comes up with their own answer, Ricoh has plausible deniability. If that is true, I wonder what the Direct side will do.

What makes a survey such as this so difficult are the variables. I want to say to the "newbees" out there that you can't take survey results such as this and determine anything when comparing to your situation. Variables such as GP for instance. Most are not paid from true dealer cost but from a cost plus formula that varies. I may get a high % commission on GP but cost starts at dealer cost plus 20% where someone else may have a low commission but cost begins at dealer cost plus 5%. What...

Re: Ricoh C751EX Duplex 300gsm
You need to address the applications the customer wants. I can see this guy wants to do two-sided business cards and you will NOT get a second side registration and then cut them in bulk. When people want 300gsm you gotta dig into the applications they want to do (heavy fills, tight registrations etc.). I've retired from day to day sales but still lurk on the fringes - got that toner in my blood - and I don't know the 751.

Re: Ricoh C751EX Duplex 300gsm
The C751 is only spec'd to auto-duplex 256gsm. In my experience, the 300gsm will NOT auto-duplex. Interestingly, I've run heavier weights (up to 350gsm) will few issues, but forget about trying to auto-duplex anything heavier than 256, at all, doesn't work, even a little. The C751 actually WILL do second-side registration, because unlike non-production machines (even those Ricoh has called production in the past), it has a separate registration unit to make sure the paper registers.
