John, The PrintCopy Tool compares pretty favorably to Plotworks. I attached two documents to this post. The Product Support Guide lists differences between the two products. The PowerPoint has screen shots of all the settings in PrintCopy Tool. I hope this helps.

I can confirm a new offering. Xerox has a new program for signing on new dealers and not putting them in the Global or Agent bucket. These dealers can then be trained to use thier own technicians. I will check with my source about them using Xerox techs.

So some clarification first. PaperCut absolutely does support Mac. In fact, it is the only cost recovery/print control solution that I know of that actually installs in an all Mac environment. (Server and Client) It also is the only solution I know of that installs in a Linux environment. So both of your issues are solved with PaperCut. I included the install guides for Mac and Linux to get you started.

Hey, same is true with KMBS direct, bottom line is dealers that have direct branches in their immediate geography will find it hard to secure any of the large bids or contracts. Direct Branches whether Ricoh, IKON, KonicMinolta, Sharp, Global, CBS or Global will continue to buy the clicks.

Cold (or hot) weather in one location (or country) is not indicative of a "Global" temperature change. I agree, our grandchildren will probably be the ones to learn the truth about this issue. I tend to agree with the notion that Imagistics won't change much on the short term. They will have Canon added to their mix but the Oce's will still be there. This acquisition isn't like buying a Global or an IKON. Canon acquired a manufacturer with it's own manufacturing and R&D. Over time the lines will be blurred but not for several years.

I'm looking at a break point of around 10k/month, at that point, at least at my dealership, a3 is a lower tco. They [the samsung rep]say when you look at total volumes, 11x17 only accounts for like 3% of the global print volume. What I've seen is that its not accurate to extrapolate that only 3% of customers need it, it means that there is a wider group of customers that use it outside AEC, but they do a tiny amount of it. The most important question to ask is "how much do you copy 11x17"? If the answer is none, then the next question is "how often do you print 11x17"? When the answer is quite often, well A3 is then a no brainer, however if the answer is rarely, then I'll bundle an 11x17 laser or ink printer. Based on under 10K per month, A4 will save the customer on the TCO over the term of a 5 year lease.

Word on 'The Street' says that Global Imaging Systems, owned by XEROX, has hired Mike Pietrunti. Mike knew to abandon ship at Kyocera MITA and has landed at a very sound company, with Global. KIP now has a contract with Global, however with the AEC market still in the dumps is that enough to help? My it seems everyone now has the KIP product and OCE and Ricoh are now in the minority. Ricoh has better get thier act together quickly in the US, it seems no one thinks a 4ppm device LED device is needed here in the US. What they don't know is that probably 75-80% of my 240W and W2400 placements average under 1,000 square feet a month. Thye have a refresh coming of the 10ppm and 14ppm...

It may also be a copy of the xerox model for Global, instad of using just one dealer like Xerox has, Ricoh will just use many. RBS could then just focus on the top tier? Would love to hear thoughts from others on this move!

Your teaser headline made me think that Ricoh Canada had sold all of its branches. Not quite the case, just Sasquatch. It reflects the realities of a direct channel - very high infrastructure and management costs, along with the recognition that the mfrs need to focus on the opportunities where they have an advantage, in particular where they are large geographic or global entities. I cannot comment with authority but I suspect Toshiba has a larger global distribution and sales than Okidata. Toshiba has been looking for a way into the A4 market for years other than simply reselling HP and Lexmark product. Toshiba TEC just spent a $900M to buy IBM's Point of Sale division so another purchase is likely not in the works.

take for example, I have a customer interested scanning to sub folders and of course with the Ricoh's we have to achieve this with either NSI or ecopy. In our company I have to reach out to our Pro Services department, believe it or not we are now recommending Global Scan, reasoning counts towards our quota, and I'm told easier to support. I'm sure at some we'll have a standard feature with scanning to nested folders, but as technology moves forward do you not think that the manufacturers...

I have situations like this before, even though the 240W is only six years old, keep in mind they were around for almost 4 years! Ricoh has now listed them as "limited parts" or something to that effect. This is the first item I would tell them about. There has got be advantages moveing to the W3601 for them. Are they scanning if so, are they only scanning as a .tiff. Are they emailing the scans as .tiffs or are they converting to .pdf, if they are converting to .pdf, have they considered...

I don't understand this, GIS Dealers are the largest purchasers of Sharp devices. heck most GIS dealer sell more Sharp that Xerox to boot. Either GIS is demanding an agreement that is not profitable for Sharp or Sharp suddenly has another revenue source.

FYI. To be technical, Windows 8 introduces SMB V3, improving security features among other things. http://www.windowsecurity.com/...SMB-Connections.html Although supposedly backwards compatible with SMB V1 & V2 found on most current MFPs, the transition is not quite as seamless as Microsoft hoped for. SMB V3 will likely require firmware updates from all of the copier manufacturers to be compatible. I have no idea on the Universal Print drivers until you try them. It is only a short time...

One of the interesting sides to this would be what would happen to Sharp's direct operations under a Samsung take over of the copier operation. Samsung in Canada has been extremely adamant that they do not do direct sales in any of their operations, consumer or BtoB. Interesting to watch these global operations shift.

Samsung has been looking for a way into the North american market going on 5 years now. they own 90% of the MFP/Printer market in Korea (Look it up). If Samsung gets the business from Sharp they will have a small but established infrastructure that will give them a foothold into North America. With all the doom and gloom out reports from the analysts these days its good to hear something new and exciting.

I feel like a lot of the historical advantages of being an Agent (lineup range, leads, etc) have been undermined by moves by Global and the Xerox dealer division in recent years. Not a bad business model too if you can do it, don't want to deal with a service division/overhead, and reach Xerox's quotas. You can also combine it with Xerox's dealer programs to go beyond some of the limitations they put on Agents.
