Re: Ricoh MP 401SPF Drum Cartridge
True story: I've only sold one so far. 2 days after delivery the customer stuffed the paper in the drawer all caddy-wampus and jammed the machine. Next they got out their trusty letter opener and went at it through the bypass rather than calling for service (1/4 mile from our office) or removing the cartridge to easily remove the jam. So my experience based on one machine in the field is that the drum lasts about 300 pages.

Re: Epson 100 ppm Ink MFP
I went back the next day to see a demonstration on this unit. I asked to see a demonstration of mixed sized originals. I was told, "sorry we are only doing controlled demonstrations and can't show that", I then asked does the device have that feature? The rep answered yes. WTF, controlled demo's? Thus, I'm thinking they are hiding something.

Re: HP PageWide Color Ink Cartridge
Was told the yield for the ink cartridges is 15K based on 5% coverage. Could not get a price for the ink. These PageWide systems are scheduled to be launched in the fall of 2017. BTW, three year warranty on the print head, does not matter how many clicks you put on it.

Copiers & MFP's "The Hidden Cost of Staples"
Copiers & MFP's "The Hidden Cost of Staples" Have you recently bought a new multifunctional copier with a finisher/stapler? If so, can you remember if the staples were included in the cost per page or not included in the cost per page. Very rarely have I ever seen staples included, and I never though much about the cost of staples and to tell you the truth neither did any of my customers. I tell em staples are NOT included and they say OK! No...

57 Days of Selling "Day 13"
Who says thirteen is unlucky? I woke up to a driving rainstorm this AM, funny how stuff works out sometimes for the good or bad. In my case, I had scheduled two appointments and thirteen stop ins today, in hindsight, maybe I should have checked the weather yesterday. I could have just went to the two appointments and canned the stop ins, but that wasn't going to happen since I haven't sold much for the past two three weeks. For me, stop-ins are pre-planned, for those accounts or prospects...

Supreme Court allows resales of used printer cartridges
The Supreme Court on Monday ruled unanimously in favor of a company that sold refilled printer cartridges in a patent case with wide implications for the technology industry. The case involved a legal dispute between printer and toner cartridge company, Lexmark, and a small West Virginia based reseller, Impression, which would acquire used Lexmark cartridges, disable chips inside them that prevented unauthorized refills and then resold them to consumers at a lower price. Lexmark argued that...

Help with Ink Conversion to Cost Per Square foot
We have an ink cartridge that holds 100ml he cost for the cartridge is $65. $65/100 = .65 per milliliter of ink I'm told that the amount of ink used in a standard wide format drawing would be under .1 milliliter per square foot. Let's call it .1ml for one square foot. The cost would then be .065 per square foot. Is this correct?

The Toner Wars
In a 2017 speech at the RT Media Summit in Zhuhai China, I warned the group of cartridge remanufacturers and those who manufacture non-infringing new compatibles. There is a more significant threat to both their business models than the threats from each other. That threat would be from the OEM’s as they would naturally attempt to get back their annuity business in a declining market. I suggested the OEM’s would compete like never before. The market is consolidating and most definitely there...

Re: HP PageWide Quality Mode Print
not a bad print, however not a great print either. HP is pushing two fronts with this device, security and acceptable color. I'm thinking more of a solution for enterprise accounts where quality color is not desired or needed. The system is also capable of tiered billing.

Re: HP A3 PageWide
I was also curious if this system could copy mixed size originals. You can not load a statement, letter, legal and ledger and have it pull from the appropriate paper trays. There is a setting on the device for letter and legal, and letter and ledger. BTW, I had to argue with the demonstrator, he told me that when we put a letter size doc and a ledger doc in the document feeder that the letter document would skew because the guides on the document feeder were holding the ledger doc in place...
