Re: Is This the Beginning of the End for the Padding of Lease Rates?

Lease Maestro ·
Hello Art and the rest of the P4P members - Our industry association (ELFA), along with several independent law firms that represent many of our industry members are reviewing this legislation to determine the actual effects it will have on the industry as a whole and to provide guidance so that our members will be in compliance with the legislation. What we know at this point is that is you are involved in offering financing to businesses in California, you will be subject to this...

Re: Personal Property Tax

Old Glory ·
First of all, we don't have this problem because the lease company we use (Clune Leasing) doesn't charge property tax. However, the potential pitfalls: 1.) Using a rate that was to include it and then having the lease company deny it later. That happened to us with Marlin Leasing. Make sure to get documentation ON EVERY DEAL done this way that all property tax is included. 2.) Property tax is a percentage of the funding amount. Anything added to the lease that raises the amount of the lease...

Re: Marlin Does Not Disclose Possible Loss Of Evergreen Payments

Anybody who uses Marlin or buys their stock deserves what they get. My past experiences with tese scum suckers are chronicled in old p4photel posts if you care to get the details. However, this article comes from a blogger site called Seeking Alpha which is also known for holding short positions in public company stock and then exagerating or outright falsifying information so as to cause a downturn of the stock value thus creating a profit for those who have short positions. I would have to say that we have not seen any difference yet. However a mortagage broker who has paid every payment on time asked for a buyout from Marlin Leasing. Marling forwarded the buyout to us and then informed us that they would not take this business at all. Personally I have stayed away from Title, and Mortgage business for the last eight months. I'll keep you posted! Matter of fact that would be a great question for a new poll, will put this up tonight for you. Art

Re: Storage of competitor's equipment during lease

Old Glory ·
Now-a-days there is no such thing as buy-out to Return...only buy-out to keep with a very high residual. We have stored equipment but the leasing company can never know about it. Marlin Leasing for instance sends it immediately to their legal dept for litigation if they find out. Far and away, the best answer is to fund the payments into the new deal and write the customer a check and have them make the payments and store the equipment.

Hello John - You have several options that I am familiar with. While every company has a few things that are not perfect, the companies below on the B list are good companies, have a good brand and you will get paid. The companies fit the part of a good secondary player. They look at A & B credits. Hello Tony - The big question is how is this companies and owners credit is doing today? The next question is how big is the deal you are working on. This will determine what leasing company may be able to help you out with your deal. You have a few options available that work in the office imaging business: Time Payment - their rates are high, fees are high and they are tough on documentation, but they do approve customers with tough credit. Marlin - Marlin is a big step up from Time...

We used Marlin several months ago for a customer we could not approve through 6 other sources. My client has been happy with the Customer Service and billing so far. It was a production deal too which made me happy to get them approved.

If I had no other choice except Marlin, I MIGHT consider using them but I also might seriously consider just walking away. Yes they are that bad. You might do a search on this site and read some of the horror stories. Just pray that your customer always pays on time and does not ever wish to terminate early (he can't). You will also be competing against Marlin at the back end.

We have been using CoActiv (now element) for deals with lower credit and also Leaf has been pretty good for us. I refuse to use Marlin now as we have never had good dealings with them. I did run across Providence Capital the other day and had a deal where the customer had no credit whatsoever and the customer came up with a solution where they would lease the system for 24 months but would put down a deposit of something like 2,500.00. They accepted these terms but 4 months later we still...

yes, I agree, great topic! If you are dealing with CIT and USXL, they have to be notified not less than 90 days prior with the Letter of Intent. I have had a few of my customers send the certified letter one month after they signed the lease with CIT and USXL. So far no problems and and you we have had some of these come to term. I am trying to stay away from "window terms" not less than or not nore than "x" amount of days. Just yesterday in order to get a deal done I HAD (only company to...

I've had several of those deals in the past of having to use Marlin, but I did not know they had a clause for a $1 lease. Guess that is why I do not use them very often. I don't think that the leasing company is the issue as much as it is customer relations. Bigger companies with multiple machines on the contract need more pampering than your smaller deals with one machine.

We close to what Larry states, I believe Marlin has some of the highest rates around and the stink at the end of the term. My advise, don't write a Marlin lease unless you don't want your customer to buy from you again.

Like Art said, you have to find someone other than Marlin. It doesn't matter who you go to because there is noone worse. I won't reiterate the reasons here...do a search of of this site for Marlin and you will come away scared. They have cost me thousands of dollars.

Re: If you are using Marlin Leasing...

Angie (Guest) ·
Heads up on another scam from Marlin. We used Marlin in the past for "b" rated customers since our primary vendor would not accept them. We just received a trade up figure on one of these customers and when we went to book the new deal through Marlin, they notified us that they will no longer do business with us because of our high customer default rate (this is the first we were even told this) and to top it all off, I had to buyout the lease and take a good customer through another vendor,...

Re: How do you replace a 700P with SR85 Bookletmaker

Old Glory ·
Thanks for the input. I had thought through all of that and may have to go that way. It's hard to exchange a $100,000 sale with a $20,000 sale. Marlin Leasing, so far, is wanting $28,000 for the equipment that I'm sure I can buy for less than $10,000 and 4 million fewer copies. There is a Fiery driven 6513 in this mess also. If I thought I could find a used SR85 I would just buy used everything and put it out for 24 months but I have my doubts about finding an SR85.

Our dealership has had a great relationship with Marlin over the last two years. They are a publicly traded company and act like one in the dealings we have had with them. We have built a multi-million dollar portfolio with them and couldn't be happier. I would ask your source for proof and talk to your Marlin Biz Dev Manager.

Re: Marlin Leasing Doing the Dirty Deed to Dealers?

Until you reach the end-of-lease issues, you really can't judge any leasing company and especially Marlin. We developed a business model that Marlin agreed to and had their attorney's draw up in an agreement. We signed and returned but failed to get a signed copy back. That's all Marlin needed to renege on everything. It was a contract drafted by their people that they would not honor in the end. If they made you any promises, get it in writing and get a signed copy returned.

Re: Marlin Leasing Doing the Dirty Deed to Dealers?

I also will add that I do know Marlin is, and probably has for years, sending letters to the customer about a year out talking to them about buying the equipment from them before the lease expires. I'm quite amazed at the short sightedness of this as one, they will lose dealers for a quick sale with a buyout, and two, instead of writing a new lease quickly they will now have a situation where the customer will keep the equipment for several or many years past the expiration of the lease.
