Re: Hiring Sales Reps - what are you hearing
Surprising there are no replies yet. I would figure this to be a "hot" topic. We recently found one in the age demographic that will work out. He has more than a 45 minute ride, has closed a few orders already. Maybe you need to show them $500 at the interview and ask how they would like to get that $500, by working a week or trying to talk you out of it. After reading your thread it seems that neither of those "salespeople" have the "desire" to compete, yet alone the determination to "win".

Jason, Wow, that KM C6500 is ancient. It's all about the media. Does the customer run (or need to run) coated or heavier stocks? The C75XX series may suffice. However, it tops out at 256gsm and crawls when coated stocks are throughput. The C750 offers you superior quality, registration and efficiency (at a higher cost). Also, the C750 offers a more powerful front-end option, additional finishing options etc...

Depends on the need for card stock. The 75xx would be a good replacement if the card stock needs are low or time limits are not a concern. I think most smaller machines ( in the light production) move slowly while printing on stock.

Top three points I make when against Kyocera. #1. Take them color samples from your device and any Kyocera because the color output is sub par on all units. If you don’t have access to one look in your crm for an account you co-exist with Kyocera in. Or the next time you have a knock out make some samples and keep them in a binder. Monte I don't believe you are paranoid! The ecommerce is a real threat for sales peeps. In order to over come that we as sales peeps will need to wear additional hats to better serve out clients. Those as a trusted adviser, become more knowledgeable with cloud services, IT services, MSP, MSSP. It's my belief that we will evolve from just print to be able to consult on all aspects of business office. I would love to hear from others on this as well, this is a great subject for discussion.

@Old Glory I don't think they will walk away from servicing the car also. The service department will need the business. However the owner of the company can set the mark with giving "preferred service" to clients that buy from them. I don't know when it comes right down to it, I can spend hours researching cars, reviews and pricing before I buy on-line. How much could I really save? $1,000 or $2,000 could that really be worth it, if I spend 40 hours doing the research or would I pay a price...

In a way its already gone to the internet and away from the outside sales rep........at least for stand alone printers and A4 devices. If all someone needs is a printer or an A4 to be used for basic printing,scanning and copying.....face it, they really don't need us already. If you've been at this a long time you probably remember the days when you sold a lot of A4 machines to small offices. 20 years ago if you needed an A4 you called a copier dealer. Those days are gone for the most part.

In 10 years there WILL be outside sales reps, and many of them will be the committed, true professionals of today. The E-Commence platform have changed our business and how we do it. For example gone are the days when you could duck into a 15 story office building and cold call. But electronic format can still be your attention getter and facilitate your efforts in creating interest. I can buy anything on line and cut out the sales person. 5 hours today spend on finding these trays. Yes, I finally found them. Seems Ricoh USA was the only one to discontinue these trays. After searching the internet again I then resorted to calling a contact in the Netherlands and South Africa. Yup agreed. I'm working with Copier Solution Shop in the Netherlands for a third party replacement. In addition for right Ricoh Europe is still offering these. I have a contact and can get more. Thinking sooner or later they will run out also

John, The PrintCopy Tool compares pretty favorably to Plotworks. I attached two documents to this post. The Product Support Guide lists differences between the two products. The PowerPoint has screen shots of all the settings in PrintCopy Tool. I hope this helps.

I heard it through the grapevine a while back that RBS (at least in DFW) is no longer sending field reps out unless opportunities are above a certain value, meaning they are handling the sales process via telephone and email from start to finish. I see this as being the way things will be done in the future. There are a lot more of those than there used to be. That's why our industry has to change the way they add prospects to the pipeline. They are going to have to actually start marketing for a change (spend dollars on marketing instead of salespeople) & do things to position themselves as a resource companies will contact when they need something versus salespeople throwing a million lines in the water hoping they get a bite. We were talking with KIP but my father did not want to order 2 or 3 machines at one time for inventory like they wanted us to. I talked with Oce' and the guy was pretty much like talking to a wall and said he didn't need anymore dealers in his territory and pretty much hung up. I would like to have an alternative and not be at Ricoh's mercy. I have tried to upgrade 3406's with 3406's and it doesn't go over that well.

I do find the Ricoh's to be very reliable. What they need is speed though, IMO. Have worked with a steel maker on some projects and he has 4 big Oce's that run all day long, 5 days a week. He loved the 3406 but said he would have to buy about 8 or 10 of them do the same work the 4 high speed Oce's run. He wouldn't bite on the 7140's either.

Art, the big thing is for Nuance/Copitrak do this you need external tablets, and people are pretty sick of ecopy. We embed right in the MFP for Ricoh, Konica, Canon and Xerox so even if there's too many months left in the current lease we can embed the software in the current equipment and then just move the license to your MFPS when it's time to change hardware. I just did that with a POA rep in Denver, the customer had Canons and when they're ready switch we'll move it for a very small...

This may be true of a commodity (like envelopes, or coffee, or even a PC) but copiers, really MFDs require a lot of attention, both before and after a customer buys it. txeagle seems you may have the best answer, just quote them MSRP and we should be safe. We just went through one of these where the copier was damaged by fire and was covered under the BOP policy. The insurance company paid the stream of payments plus the residual. Jason, if it's not too late, you will need the Universal Send Security Feature Set. It allows you to set up a password-protect PDF files. They are encrypted to DoD standards. So some clarification first. PaperCut absolutely does support Mac. In fact, it is the only cost recovery/print control solution that I know of that actually installs in an all Mac environment. (Server and Client) It also is the only solution I know of that installs in a Linux environment. So both of your issues are solved with PaperCut. I included the install guides for Mac and Linux to get you started.

So, the Oki or Teriostar 1040 is one page per minute faster than the Ricoh. Oki wants the user to replace the corona wire cartridge and the process cartridge. I believe the process cartridge is the drum. Now, the memories come back, if an end user scratches that drum, it's on the user to replace the drum which is going to be a very pricey item. If I am hearing this right, you have two issues...USB access and driverless/wireless printing. Others have USB printing, we don't. I see the whole copier industry making a shift to A$ devices in the next 24 months or less, they have too. I would look into Fabsoft's Reform Print Driver. It captures the print stream from the user's application and allows you to apply "rules." I don't know if it will do what you need but it is where I would start. I can't think of any way to duplicate a page (that's not just a driver/print setting/printstream issue, that's wholesale re-creation of a page) without getting a package that will do much much more (and cost more than you want to pay). How about setting up two printers with different default settings and having them print twice? If they aren't willing to pay, they either need to be willing to take extra steps or relinquish this request.

No they need to produce two part forms on carbonless paper. well I'm finding that out about the PlanetPress and Dataworks after the fact. The last thing I needed to so was go back and charge more. I had a few birdies that told me it work without any additional software. Oh well, back to the drawing board, and the customer.

I think this is the big change over the last 15-20 years. If you think back, there was a time that you could buy an "off-brand" (not Xerox, Canon or Ricoh) and be really disappointed. They just wouldn't do the job. That's not true anymore, at least for level of machine 90% of office users need. Sure, we may beat the other players on some specific uncommon features, but if they just need a MFP to copy/scan/print, you'd be hard pressed to find one that couldn't accomplish that.

I know this is 3 weeks old but the reason that you can not send through Comcast e-mail server is because they are securing the server. Look in the customers e-mail settings in Outlook to get what you need. It is under Authentication and not all MFD's are capable of this. POP Server: Requires SSL SMTP Server: Requires POP before SMTP, port 465, and authentication of POP before SMTP or just authentication of just he name and password. Hope this helps.

It's hard to place an accurate count on the number of trees we lose over a span of time because of the size of the number. Easier to track the loss of areas designated as forests since that highlights the biggest change, usually from nearly 100% of the surface area covered by trees to nearly 0%. I am having trouble scanning to Vista with the 816mf and it doesn't even need ScanRouter, it is serverless. I posted the problem and got some helpful info as you have about possible firewall or antivirus interference. I also heard that you must set a password in Vista for shared folder - no choice - but I am not sure if that is true yet, need to get back to the customer's office soon to check. Also was told Vista Home was not scanner friendly but there was no explaination for that.
