One thing I noticed is the weight. It feels heavier, somehow more robust? They seem to run good so far, other than the fusers catching fire.

Five Reasons I Love the New Ricoh MP 430f!
It's been awhile since I had some extra time to write about some of the latest and greatest MFP's from Ricoh. Just this year Ricoh dropped the old naming convention of MP and replaced it with IM. The IM stands for Intelligent MFP. These new intelligent devices operate with the RICOH Smart Integration platform (RSI). RSI Remote In For those of us who have been in the industry for sometime, we can remember having to walk clients through settings on the user screen interface and or helping the...

Firmware Are You talking about it with your client?
Seems almost every opportunity I'm having a chat about firmware and the need for the client to make sure they have the latest updates to help reduce the risk of and attack. Is anyone else mentioning this and are your clients in agreement or not?

I always mention it.....it's just that nobody seems to care.

Re: Firmware Are You talking about it with your client?
I use the analogy of it's similar to when you iphone updates. They consist of patches, security updates and software. It's been working. I also tell them what our industry is and was like with firmware updates. In today's climate of attacks, and ransomware they can't wait until a tech updates firmware

Re: Firmware Are You talking about it with your client?
I had one IT manager that actually saw the auto firmware updates as a downside. He said nobody in the IT world installs a new firmware right away without waiting to see if there are any bugs within that firmware.

Charge for Firmware Update?
Curious to know if any dealers and/or direct sales branches add a charge for updating the firmware for an MFP in the field. I would think that a customer fee would discourage updates, which are important for security and some functionality purposes. I'm interested to know if you've encountered this practice or if your dealership does this. Thanks!

Re: Charge for Firmware Update?
We do not charge for firmware updates. All of the Ricoh IM series is now capable of auto-updating the firmware when new firmware is released. It's actually a great talk track that clients never asked about. When I'm finished explaining our process I'm sure that5 leads to questions to other vendors about their process.

Re: Charge for Firmware Update?
We do not charge if they are under a service agreement. Otherwise it depends on the customer and the situation. Sometimes we bill a service call.

@Art Post - Follow up question for you please. When the automatic FW update is completed on the Ricoh IM device, do you get a confirmation or notification that the update was made?

Re: Charge for Firmware Update?
There is no update for the end user when the firmware is updated, however there is an update with ACT that will show on the MFP forth end user

Re: Charge for Firmware Update?
Your service department should have access to Ricoh Arms. This tool lets you remotely see if the machines you have in the field need firmware updates and will usually let you do the updates remotely depending on the model.

Re: Charge for Firmware Update?
If the machine is under a service contract you'd be foolish not to keep the machines in your MIF up to date on their firmware. In addition to improving your customer's experience the updates could reduce service calls.

Re: Charge for Firmware Update?
There is a new tool on the customer facing side of the Ricoh websites where the customer can search their network for Ricoh devices that need firmware updates. They can then select which machine they want to update or they can do them all at once. I tested it on my network and used it to update an 03 series color device and it worked well. Only downside was that it took a good half hour for the machine to complete the update. This will be a good tool to help me fix SMB scanning issues...

HP Issues Firmware Updates for Printer Product Vulnerabilities
HP Inc. has issued firmware updates for multiple security vulnerabilities that affect more than 150 models of its multifunction printer (MFP) products. These issues are not particularly easy to exploit. However, they present a threat to enterprise organizations because they give attackers a means to steal data and gain a foothold on a network, according to F-Secure researchers who discovered the bugs and reported them to HP in April 2021. The flaws are also dangerous because forensic tools...

Firmware, Security and Hedge Against Inflation
The above title was a talk track we had in the car today while we were traveling from account to account. Our topic was about how can we get some of these 5 year old plus MPFs out of the field. Let's face it, the feature set of most copiers today has not changed in the five years except for some cloud functionality. For me one of the difference makers from copier to copier has been the print drivers. Alas Microsoft will kill off third party print drivers on 2027. Thus the question becomes...
