Re: What Happened with the RICOH Pro L4000
You mean Batelli resigned? I sure wish they would get someone in there that was worth a damn. Previously Linda Allen and then Batelli. I am sure the Plotworks thing didn't have anything to do with it. J.

Are you talking about the mimaki machine? The service documentation showed up online a week ago with the models L4130 and L4160.

Over the years I've had the opportunity to interact with many product managers at Ricoh. This guy never returned a call, actually I'm glad he's gone.

Re: What Happened with the RICOH Pro L4000
I hope Ricoh can bring back the magic they had when Linda ran the division. Plotworks has been a great product with great support once you learn the capabilities. It is an excellent PlotBase replacement product. I cannot think of a better time to be selling Wide Format- here in the SE, industry is back on it's feet and growing.

Re: What Happened with the RICOH Pro L4000
Plotworks is not Plotbase. Bring back Plotbase and scantools. At least we can still get Plotbase. I just wish they would not force Plotworks upon us without a choice.

Maxima1 Agreed about the production thing with wide format. But dude you're less than stellar at returning calls, and if you're referring to me digging for information for a blog, well, you're way off base. Plus how can you make that statement, if you don't call the person back to find out what they need? It's not only me, I've spoken to others and we all agreed you were not that good when it came to call backs. Now, this doesn't mean I don't like you, I do like you, but dude you gotta call...

Re: What Happened with the RICOH Pro L4000
You were atrocious at returning phone calls. And for you to state that you returned calls in a timely manner that you deemed important takes the cake and proves the point. Additionally, the sales reps in the field who religiously continue to sell the wide format product are the reason for any continued success in that area of Ricoh's product line. With the mandatory increase in price and a stale product lineup most days it is a difficult exercise.

Re: What Happened with the RICOH Pro L4000
I wish everyone that is selling wide format in Ricoh continued success. I know it is a tough endeavor and will continue to be considering the internal shift towards color and support for direct. If you required better support, I hope you receive it in the future. Good Luck.

Re: U.S. and Japan Show Growth in Large Format Printer Shipments in the Second Quarter of 2013, According to IDC
So, what am I missing here, I can see OCE, but no KIP and no Ricoh. Did they actually sell then than 2,500 shipments? If Ricoh only placed 2,000 wide format systems and I sold 20 last year does that mean the I accounted for 1% of the world wide wide format placements for Ricoh? That's pitiful!!

Just had a customer with a lease on a 3601 come to end of term. I had nothing to offer him other than the same thing he already had for the past 4 years. Trail went cold and meanwhile KIP is kicking our butts.

I just got a notice that the W5100 and 7140 are now on inventory depletion, all the while I still have nothing new to offer my customers.

Re: Ricoh Wide Format update
I have heard the 3601 replacement is to be a de-featured 5100 like beast which would be wonderful.
Reply
Re: Ricoh Wide Format update
How much de-featured can it be? Unless they make print & scan an option. Use a single roll feeder. I mean what else could you cut? At this point in time I don't believe anything about Ricoh wide format.

Re: Ricoh Wide Format update
here's the rub, will they move the speed to 8ppm or 6ppm? That's my question. I can see a difference in speed from 14ppm to 6ppm. For some reason I feel that they will go with 8ppm and not 6ppm. If that's the case, then we're no better than before. Don't get me wrong, I want 6PPM, however, I do not believe anything I hear about wide format from Ricoh anymore. Art

Well, that would stand to reason since it's 7 pages a minute, if this holds true, wide format is really dead with Ricoh, you have a link for it?

I saw 6.7 per minute, could be 7, the price of 2,450,000 yen equals an MSRP of $21,656. Still way over priced for system that can't compete with KIP or Oce

Re: Ricoh Wide Format update
I won't be impressed until I see a launch packet and a price point that can actually compete with the Kip and Oce. I've been hearing for over a year now something is coming. Heard it from Corridi face to face last March at a meeting and several other times.

Re: Ricoh Wide Format update
The biggest thing that jumps out at me with this product is that you are not carrying this machine up a flight of stairs. With the current model you can separate the main body from the roll base and you can muscle it up a flight of stairs. I have at lease half a dozen installs currently where the machine is on a second floor with no elevator.

Re: Muratec Label Press
MSRP of $18k, that makes $360 on a lease. Thus, you need to find someone outsourcing. After a little research, color labels that are 4x4 cost around 45 cents each. Thus someone outsourcing 800 labels or more can be a prospect for one of these devices.

This is the same product as the 5100/7140. The specs are exactly the same. No Plotworks but if you want Plotworks functionality you need to buy the Printcopy tool.

the older units did not have scan & print to uSB and SD card, nor customizable workflow buttons. Same engine, however the new op panel helps with some up to date features. Overall a poor showing from Ricoh
