We don't have a rule like that but I've pretty much self imposed my own similar rule. I wind up putting in just as much time and effort on those little machines as a $10,000 A3.

I think those rates are low based on what we sell our contracts at but I know everyone is in a different market. The extremely low rates don't seem to get thrown around our city as often as others. We keep most everyone around .013-.017 for b/w and .08 or higher for color.

I had the chance to meet with the prospect yesterday. Canon is out of the picture. However the users states they are using secure print as a default from every PC for every print job. Is this a standard feature or is it a MEAP solution type add on?

Not just color. We could see a big consolidation of speed bands too. If certain manufacturers can make low cost 40 and 50ppm engines that retail for under $4,000 do we really need to have 25ppm engines that retail for over $5,000?

If they offer them for the price of black & white units, yes. If they try to have the same price point as current color systems, they would lose out on price to any manufacturers that continue to make b/w only systems. Additionally, they would have to have a multi-tier billing system for color so as to not scare off people that have intentionally stayed away from color. The industry billing systems (e-Automate, OMD) would need to make that easy to manage & bill as well.

Agreed that the cost of color would have to be the same as the current black systems. I for one would like to only offer color, I think it would be better for the industry. I also believe that the color machines don't cost that much more to make the black systems. I'd bet that the margins are the 20-25-30 ppm nlack systems are huge from the manufacturing side.

Sometimes I just don't understand.......
I was told the other day that we are not going and not allowed to sell the lower A4 color & mono MFP's from Ricoh. Thus, if someone wants color and the volume is very low, I have to either walk away or try to sell them the color A4 MP C307SP. With a black device, it's the MP 301SPF. Now, I have multiple clients that have larger A3 devices that have bough many of the lower A4 color & monochrome devices. Usually I'll sell the black devices for about $1K and the color for $1.3k. IKON (Ultimately Ricoh) got sued for this "Flex Lease" Practice, where they just kept rolling things in and rewriting the whole 60 mo lease. Yes, I've seen this from authorized dealers. 6 months later they called the customer and asked for their meter count and sent a bill for $700. More and more I'm seeing copies included in the lease. IMO that's cheeky, especially when a lease buyout is involved. How do you pick that apart? A customer shouldn't have to pay for service not rendered.

I am told launch is late August. Basically this new Toshiba made colour product is very similar to the A3 product shrunk to A4 paper size using the same operating system with a Dual Head scanner and 10.1" display. No finishing options but this is rarely requested on A4 product. Toshiba plans to continue with the relabelled Lexmark product for quite awhile as it opens more doors

Its not a Samsung. We are a dealer. The print engines are extremely reliable but I find the user interface and web interface of the HP MFPs to be weak compared to a Ricoh or Canon. The interface is the biggest weakness in the product. I will have the new models in my showroom in about a month. Given Ricoh's collapse in getting us equipment I plan on leading with HP as soon as these come in.

First copy out or processor speed perhaps? Sometimes the customer just gets sold. Incumbent vender also is a safe bet for an employee. Change is scary.
